Did you know? In 2009, 43.6 million people (14.3 percent) were in poverty. In 2009, 8.8 million (11.1% percent) families were in poverty. In 2009, 24.7 million (12.9 percent) of people aged 18-64 were in poverty. In 2009, 15.5 million (20.7 percent) children under the age of 18 were in poverty. In 2009, 3.4 million (8.9 percent) seniors 65 and older were in poverty.

What’s the issue? Over half the world, over 3 billion people, live on less than $2.50 a day. Everybody will also have less access to health, education and other services. The issue is if we keep living in a state of poverty, the world will downgrade and this came become a great crisis.

By one estimate, it has the fourth highest gross national income at purchasing power parity in Africa, giving it a standard of living around that of Mexico and Turkey. 59 percent of Botswana is poor

Current Botswana has been hard hit by AIDS. In 2010 there were an estimated 300,000 adults living with HIV - or one quarter of the population aged 15 and over. Considering Botswana’s population is below two million, the epidemic has reached disturbing proportions.
