Apply for a Teacher Education Scholarship Get paid to study and secure your employment. Scholarships are available to students wanting to train as teachers of mathematics, science (with physics), English, special education or selected TAS subjects. Scholarships are also available for Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islanders to train in any subject area. Check the details online don’t miss out.
A guaranteed permanent teaching job in an agreed location on successful completion of studies. $5,000 per year of full time study up to a maximum of five years. $3,000 extra when you commence teaching.

Attend an Explore Your Future visit in rural NSW or western and south western Sydney The teach.NSW Explore Your Future program gives teacher education students first-hand experience in those NSW schools and locations with the greatest number of future employment opportunities.
Beyond the Line offers week-long visits to schools in rural locations. Beyond the Bridge offers single-day visits to schools in western and south western Sydney. Your expenses are covered while you explore these valuable opportunities.

Apply for teaching approval through the Graduate Recruitment Program (GRP) The Graduate Recruitment Program (GRP) is your first step as a final year teacher education student to gain approval to teach in NSW public schools. Best of all, you can apply through the GRP and gain interim casual approval while you are still studying.
Apply for interim casual approval and teach during your final year of studies. High achieving graduates may be directly appointed to permanent positions. $3,500 and a guaranteed permanent teaching position offered to high achieving university students in curriculum areas of need during their final semester of study.

University qualifications To be eligible to become a teacher in NSW public schools, you will need to complete one of the following: • a double degree program such as a Bachelor of Science/ Bachelor of Education • a program such as a Bachelor of Education

NSW Institute of Teachers When you apply to teach with us, you will also need to apply for eligibility for accreditation through the NSW Institute of Teachers. Check their website for information on the academic requirements for employment and teacher accreditation.
