National Safety STAND-DOWN TO PREVENT FALLS IN CONSTRUCTION

M AY 8 – 1 2 , 2 0 1 7

Stop Falls Stand-Down ` Plan a toolbox talk or other safety activity ` Take a break to talk about how to prevent falls ` Provide training for all workers HCC ACRES HOMES PM. Jennifer King S. Mike Pettus PC. Chantela Rowland Following Commissioning this week and next Houston Community College Acres Homes Campus will be completed! This CMAR project was awarded to Teal in August 2014 for the preconstruction phase and started construction in October 2015. The project is over 25K square feet and contains 8 classrooms, electronic resource center, class registration for the district, student and faculty lounges, offices, and auxillary spaces. The building is slated for LEED Silver certification. The limits of construction was a 5.4 Acre Site with 2 Acres of paving.

STAND-DOWN OSHA NATIONAL CAMPAIGN MAY 8 - 12, 2017 Next month Teal will be participating in the OSHA National Safety Stand-Down campaign which educates our jobsite team on fall protection and preventing falls on our jobs. All superintendents will be required to have a tool box talk on fall prevention or another relevant safety activity such as conducting safety equipment inspections, developing rescue plans, or discussing job specific hazards. Superintendents are encouraged to plan a stand-down that works best for their project anytime during the May 8-12. Please inform your PM and Ziggy when you are planning on doing your Tool Box Talk. In 2014, 38.8%

of the total fatalities in construction were caused by falls (364 out of 937). 1 in 5 workers were killed in the construction industry, falls were the leading cause. Teal should have and will have safety at the forefront of all our projects. We have to facilitate saftey conversations through preconstruction meetings and toolbox talks to train ourselves and the workers on our jobs. By educating,

we can prevent these fatalities.
