STINSON AIRPORT TRAFFIC CONTROL TOWER

STINSON AIRPORT [PX] Pat Garrett [PM] Robert Varner [S] Wes Chapman & John Chapman [PC] Tricia Parker Shout out to the Stinson Airport Traffic Control Tower team!!! On February 8th, the team working with Garden & Ornamental Designs, Inc. lifted the control tower cab safely and successfully. The entire team with Corporate Safety Director, Ziggy Garcia, built the lift plan with the erector and pre-test lifts prior to the final lift on Thursday. This is the first control tower that Teal has constructed and our third project with TxDot Aviation Division.

SAFETY MOMENT

NEAR-MISS REPORTING OSHA defines a near miss as an unplanned event that did not result in injury, illness, or damage -but had the potential to do so. Only a fortunate break in the chain of events prevented an injury, fatality, or damage; in other works, a miss that was nonetheless very near. NEAR MISSES DON’T EXIST IN A VACUUM. Conoco Phillips Marine conducted a study in 2003 that examined at-risk behaviors, near misses, injuries, and fatalities. The study found that, for every fatality, there are at least 300,000 at-risk behaviors (such as skipping a safety step to save time.)

WAYS TO STAY AHEAD OF THE GAME

1. FIND SAFETY CONCERNS BEFORE OSHA INSPECTORS 2. TAKE A PROACTIVE APPROACH TO SAFETY 3. FIND THE ROOT CAUSES OF NEAR-MISSES 4. CATCH HAZARDS BEFORE THEY LEAD TO IMPACTFUL ACCIDENTS *Information came from https://www.graphicproducts.com/infographics/near-miss-reportinginfographic/ Near Miss Reporting Infographic Designed by Malcolm Bungcayao for Graphic Products

THROWBACK PROJECT

- Napoleon Hill TEALWOOD SUBDIVISION

In the 1964, Murray Building Company and Cranbrook Corporation developed the subdivision Tealwood in the now ‘Memorial Area’. The subdivision was 107-acre tract that fronts 1750 feet along Memorial Drive. Murray Building Company was the predecessor of Teal Construction Company. John Murray Sr. was the President of Murray Building Company that started in 1947 building homes for the GI’s returning from the war in Pasadena, TX. Up until the 1959, it was primarily residential construction as the commercial construction division increased, Teal Construction was opened running as a sister company to Murray Building Company. The lots in Tealwood ranged from $8,000 $16,000 which once completed offered 200 homes. The Mortgagee magazine stated “Teal Wood”, a heavily wooded tract, offers fresh, new perspective in subdivision platting design. Enhanced by the native stately trees and winding lanes, this new are offers close proximity to excellent community shopping centers, schools, and churches. It is a “just right” distance from downtown Houston,”
