Social Leagues and Recreational Sport Intramural Sport (IMS) is played between students from the University with a greater emphasis on fun, enjoyment and getting involved. This makes IMS a great way to meet new people and socialise. Teams can be made up from people you live with, course mates, societies or just a group of friends. Intramural Football Intramural Football focuses on fun rather than serious competition. Teams have to be submitted before the league starts at the beginning of each semester, but once you get going you can invite any new friends to get involved along the way. We offer a variety of formats including 6-a-side, 11-a-side and Futsal arranged in a mini league structure. There are multiple seasons throughout the year so don’t worry if your team has a bad start, just pick yourselves up and go for the title again in January. Intramural Football offers a well organised structure and is a great way to keep playing the sport you love all year round!

Student Focus Performance Sport – Samad Sagir Men’s Basketball is considered one of the elite sports at the University of Derby, how does this affect the team’s performance? “It’s humbling for the Derby Wolves to be considered one of the Elite sports at the University. I think it really gives us a mental advantage in our games; it really helps boost team effort and morale and makes us want to represent the university with pride.” What would you say about the calibre of players here at the University? “We have a very talented team. Before coming to university, we all played at good levels of basketball. We all know what must be done to reach our goal, which is to win a championship.” The tactical nature of Basketball is key to success, how is this reflected in the training you do? “Tactics are a huge part of the type of basketball we play. We have a very high tempo offense, involving lots of screens and movement off the ball and a very in-your-face defence. We are trained to the point where our tactics become second nature for us. So come game-time, we can execute our game plan flawlessly.”
BUCS Competition – Laura Sears Why did you join Women’s Football? “I joined the Women’s Football team because it was my favourite hobby before Uni and knew I’d meet people who were similar to me.” What does competing in BUCS mean to you? “Competing in BUCS for Team Derby makes me feel a part of a great team, where being successful and enjoying my sport come hand in hand.” What is the best thing about being part of Team Derby? “The best thing about being part of Team Derby is the unity between all teams; everyone looks out and supports one another. I like being part of Women’s Football because we are all close friends as well as being a team.”
