Bouquets and All. The sun continues to shine, the temperatures are soaring and while we enjoy the long and hot summer we do spare a thought for the dry land, parched animals and particularly the rural community which is need of some respite from the dry conditions.

The good weather does seem to bring the buyers out as numbers attending open homes and property viewings attest to. These are often families who have sat on the beach over the holiday period and made plans for 2018, some of which include the decision to buy an investment property or holiday home, upgrade their existing home, buy something for their student family accommodation or get into their first home. If you are thinking of selling now is the time to call your local Harcourts office to take advantage of these strong seller’s market opportunities. Properties are selling and they are selling well with robust prices being achieved. As an aside from real estate matters, I was taken aback whilst driving around various parts of the North Island over the holiday period, at the amount and the scale of road construction projects going on in this country. (Surely one of the best businesses in New Zealand must be that which manufactures or imports and sells the orange and white road cones which are such a feature

of these construction zones!) This infrastructure development is impressive and whilst a tad disruptive to holiday travel, it is inspiring in its scale and exciting in the longer term economic benefits. A bouquet to the roading and traffic-flow engineers who are tasked with keeping the traffic moving around these construction sites. From the engineers to machine drivers to the stop/go sign operators the need for teamwork and efficiency is very apparent. The complexities of keeping the roads open and the traffic moving while still getting the project done must be immense. Good on you people who work in the heat and dust of the day and often through the night to keep us and the country moving forward! I have in the past often thought of recording this ‘’bouquet” in the newspaper ‘Letters to the Editor’ section but concluded that such columns seem to be more the preserve of “brickbats”!
