INTRODUCTION The never-ending challenge
C
ompetition, this word is familiar to everyone. Competing with someone or for something, the thrill of the challenge, setting one’s targets and committing oneself to go through with them, fighting to the utmost if necessary. Sometimes we ask ourselves: why? Probably because all that is an undeniable part of us. I
believe sport gives men the great possibility to give vent to their inborn desire for challenge, standing, at the same time, for an exceptional school of life. Personally, racing for the motorcycle world championship for ten years, made me savour the unforgettable thrill of a victory, the bitterness of defeats and gave me the possibility to understand how disciplined you must be if you want to go on pursuing challenges. I stopped competing, as an “actor”, on the racing field at the end of 2003 and today I pursue a new challenge with the same passion: the one of being behind the scenes, as a director, in the Motorcycle World Championship, aiming and keeping on winning the LCR Team also in the MotoGP series soon… and then heading for the biggest challenge.

LUCIO CECCHINELLO BIOGRAPHY
25 years on motorcycle racing field
A
t the age of 7 Lucio dismantled an engine of an old motorbike of his fathers and‌ it never functioned again! Lucio began to cultivate his passion for racing motorcycles, after being a motorcycle mechanic for teams in national and international racing. He started to race motorcycles in 1989, when he was a rider in the Italian Sport Production Championship, riding a HONDA 125 NSR. In the third race, in Monza, he obtained his first victory!! Other victories and pole positions gave him self-confidence, and, in 1990, he finished VICE ITALIAN CHAMPION, just behind Max Biaggi! In 1991 Lucio made his debut in the European Championship riding for the Team Italia (where he was a mechanic 3 years before!) and he obtained the 10th final position. Riding for the Team Italia again in 1992, Lucio was VICE EUROPEAN CHAMPION. In 1993 he joined the 125 World
Championship, riding for the Gazzaniga Team. In 1994 the team GIVI offered him the opportunity of riding a private HONDA RS 125 and gaining his first important points in the world ranking. In 1995 the famous Team Pileri gave him the opportunity of riding a HONDA RS 125 Kit in the European Championship, during which he won 8 of the 11 races and became the EUROPEAN CHAMPION. The year 1996 was the first turning point: Lucio organized his own small team for the World Championship in the 125 class, obtaining several important results in the top ten. It was the same in 1997 and in 1998, after 4 Grands Prix, Lucio obtained his first VICTORY in the World Championship at Jarama racing track (Spain). Still in 1998 he got other podiums and 1999 he obtained an historical double podium with Nobby, his fabulous team mate, at the 1999 Czech
Career summary Republic GP. Obtaining many important positions still riding a HONDA in 2000. In 2001 the team changed to the APRILIA maker and gained more victories and podiums during this year finishing the year in fourth position in the championship which he repeated in 2003. The icing on the cake was in 2003 (his last year in competition), when he realized his dream: winning the Italian Grand Prix on the same track where he had ridden a racing motorcycle for the first time. First a mechanic, then a rider with more than 45 podiums, today he is a team manager of a respectable MotoGP team and now also member of the IRTA Commission which is at the disposal of the World Motorcycle Organizations so that his knowledge and vast experience maybe be used in order to develop this wonderful motorsport.

V
ictory in the 1995 European Championship gave Lucio Cecchinello the stimulus and opportunity to take part in 1996 in the 125 World Championship with his very own team, called Team LCR. Dirk Raudies, Peteer Otll, Jorge Martinez, Sito Pons and other champions had already successfully done the same thing, and Lucio, following in their footsteps, didn’t miss the chance to lay the foundations for what he wanted to become his future job after the adventure of being a rider. Two friends with considerable technical abilities (Paolo Cordioli and Marco Seda) believed in the project and right from the start dedicated themselves fulltime to follow Lucio on the track. Over the years the staff of LCR continued to grow and the small team of enthusiastic friends was gradually transformed into a complex, highly-organised team: office, secretaries, press agents, outsourcing… all were needed to streng-
then the complex team needed to create a winning programme. In 2002, the Team had a strong reorganization taking new important financial partners. That’s why the Team LCR extended its participation to the 250 category and after barely a year, as in the 125 category, was a serious contender for the world title in the respective classes. In 2003 a group of no fewer than 49 specialist staff divided every aspect of technical management, logistics, administration, advertising, hospitality, public relations, graphics and marketing, all controlled using the criteria of the ISO 9001 QUALITY SYSTEM, certified by the English TUV. 2004 was an extraordinary Season with all the 3 riders achieving a FIM award. The next season (2005) the Team finished with an exceptional 2nd place in 250 category, achieving the best result ever. The first memorable podium in MotoGP was made in the 3rd race of the 2006 Season... and the challenge goes on!

LCR riders during the years
L
ucio Cecchinello has founded the LCR Team in 1996 setting up his own organisation and holding both roles of rider/manager. Over the years the LCR Team have gathered numerous successes in three different categories thanks to his collaboration with top level riders such as Nobby Ueda who competed in the 125cc class with Lucio. The pair enjoyed the first successes in 1998 and in 2001 Lucio got the 4th overall position aboard his Aprilia. In 2002 the LCR team lined up 4 riders in two different categories: Lucio himself scored 3 victories and 2 second placements (4th placement in the final standing) and the young talent Alex De Angelis earned his first GP podium in the smallest class whilst Casey Stoner marked his world championship debut together with David Checa in the 250cc class. In 2003 the founder of the LCR Team raced his last
Stoner for the MotoGP class championship. The Australian phenomenon aboard the Honda RC211V earned his first pole position and his first podium in the premier class. In 2007 Stoner was replaced by a more mature rider able to make the most of the full potential of the new RC212V: the Spaniard Carlos Checa scored the 14th final place in the premier class standing. In the same season, LCR Team decided to support the Rookie project proposed by Honda UK signing up the Irish rider Eugene Laverty in the 250cc class. The following year (2008) LCR Team started its third season in the premier class with an “old flame” and Randy de Puniet scored the 15th final position aboard the Honda RC212V. In 2009 the Frenchman continued his knowledge of the Japanese machine obtaining several top ten positions and the third place at Donington Park ending the season with the 11th
season alongside Stoner who finished his first 125cc season in 9th position whilst the French new entry Randy de Puniet scored several successes in the 250cc class (4th overall place). At the end of 2003 the 3 LCR riders had surprisingly looted: 16 podiums, 6 victories and 6 pole positions. The following year the Frenchman continued to ascend the standing of the “middle class” getting the 3rd final position whilst Roberto Locatelli (already World Champion in the smallest category) got the bronze medal in the 125cc class. 2004 was also the debut year of another talented rider, Mattia Pasini, who earned the Rookie of the Year Award in the smallest category. In 2005 the LCR team earned its best result ever thanks to the 2nd overall placement of Casey Stoner in the 250cc class alongside his Italian team mate Locatelli. In 2006 Lucio decided to make a big step forward signing up

overall placement. In 2010 the Frenchman has continued his rise alongside the LCR Team and Honda. After a very bad left leg injury De Puniet made a big effort to recover ending the championship with a positive 9th place. In 2011 the veteran Toni Elias, who dominated the new category taking the first Moto2 title in 2010, lined up in the MotoGP grid but the Spaniard had a difficult season struggling to adapt to the Japanese machine and finished 15th place. The same year Stefan Bradl was confirmed as the 2011 Moto2 World Champion and in 2012 joined the LCR Team , which saw him win the “Rookie of the Year” title after some strong performances and finished brilliant 8th place.

LCR PIT GARAGE AND PIT LANE The heart of the Paddock
T
o make a comparison with the world of medicine, for every team the PITS are like an operating theatre where check-ups and specialist operations are carried out. Before, during and after a race, competition bikes are kept there so that they can be constantly and thoroughly checked, improved and tuned to give the very best performance, together with a very high degree of reliability. At race weekends, the LCR Team’s group of specialist engineers works in the PITS for an average of 14 hours a day, coordinated by the respective chief engineers who, analysing the bike’s telemetry data, come up with the best setups to put their riders in a position to perform to the very best of their abilities. Achieving excellence is difficult, but attention to every detail is an essential ingredient for the riders’ sporting success.

LCR HOSPITALITY LOUNGE Exlusive Hospitality Unit on MotoGP Paddock reserved area
A
nother department that characterizes the structure of the LCR Team is the Hospitality unit. It’s a real travelling restaurant, which provides an excellent international cuisine service with a lot of different Italian specialities and shelter for all the team supporters and dedicated events (happy hour, subject dinners, presentation followed by buffet) during the three days of the GP.Even in that case, just like
for the technical unit a qualified staff, composed by nine people, take care on organizing the structure, composed by two trailers and one movable infrastructure, that enables to prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner for about 400 people every race. There are two very experienced chefs who compose an excellent culinary marriage, which satisfies completely - even the most exigent tastes - from the moment on, where the LCR Hospitality gives refreshments to every nationality’s costu-
mers and guests, reaching 9 different countries all along Europe during the season. In addition to pasta, pizza, wine and all the other tastes of the best European cuisine, the Hospitality offers to its guests a “bar corner”, dedicated to the lovers of the real espresso café. It can be mentioned, that even the aperitif ritual, to enjoy the end of the afternoon with colleagues and friends, is characterized by great cocktails, tasty nibbles and good music.

motocross in Belgio.

Marketing Strategies around motors and beauties
T
eam LCR organizes also promotional tours in the public area of worldwide motorcycle circuits during MotoGP contests. Supported by models and hostesses service the Team can plan a lot of kind of activities, from flyers and gadget distributions to the installation of small and big corporate stands. The most important campaigns around the world were for Carrera, Denso and Givi. These kind of marketing strategies provided interesting results not only in terms of brand and product visibility but also for statistic purposes. The public areas around the track are in fact populated by a precise and well classified target, useful for marketing tests, research and data acquiring. A massive feedback is assured by several experts (Graphic Artists, Marketing Consultants, Model Agencies) working constantly with the Team.
