About Ontario Basketball Provincial Championships is owned and operated by Ontario Basketball, in collaboration with 18 host clubs throughout 12 Ontario communities. Over eight weekends each Spring, more than 16,000 athletes playing for nearly 1,200 club teams will complete for approximately 150 divisional provincial titles. Tournaments are held for both genders in all age categories between Under 10 through Under 19. In remaining dedicated to the Canadian Sport for Life (CS4L) model, teams are grouped into eight-team divisions to ensure quality competition and a positive playing environment. Ontario Cup remains one of the largest basketball events in North America. For updated scores, standings, photos and more, visit www.basketball.on.ca or follow us on Twitter @OBANews.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR To all 2014 Ontario Cup Provincial Championships Participants, On behalf of the board of directors and staff of Ontario Basketball, we would like to take this opportunity to extend a very warm welcome to all the athletes, coaches, officials, parents, volunteers and spectators to the 2014 Ontario Cup Provincial Championships. Organizing a provincial tournament is a very time consuming endeavor. This year, Ontario Cup is being hosted in a dozen communities with nearly 16,000 athletes and 3,000 coaches among 1,150 teams. Please join us in thanking our tournament host committee and volunteers for all of their efforts in making this weekend possible. Thank you to all Ontario Basketball corporate partners and community sponsors for their continued support of amateur basketball in the province. Additionally, we would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge all the Ontario Basketball member clubs and our parents. Without the ongoing support and commitment from all our basketball communities across the province, OBA would not have the opportunity to develop our youth and have basketball continue to flourish in this country. The Ontario Cup Provincial Championships are the culmination and celebration of your efforts, commitment and development throughout the basketball season. Have fun, good luck and best wishes this weekend! Yours in basketball,

Greg Verner President

OUA FEATURED FEMALE ATHLETE: HEATHER LINDSAY - CARLETON RAVENS For Carleton Ravens rookie forward Heather Lindsay, the game of basketball has been the source of so many positive things. And much of the success she has found early in her university career can be traced back to her time with Ontario Basketball Association club programs. Heather got her start in organized basketball when she joined the Hornets of the Goulbourn Basketball Association in Stittsville, Ont., just outside of Ottawa, as an eighth grader. After a handful of seasons with the Hornets, where she worked tirelessly at improving her game, Heather moved on to join the prolific Ottawa Guardsmen program. While with the Guardsmen, Lindsay played on a summer Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) team for her current Carleton Ravens head coach, Taffe Charles, and then the squad was taken over for the OBA season by Laura Bond, currently an assistant coach with the Algonquin Thunder of the OCAA.

When she chose the Carleton Ravens, Heather was reunited familiar faces from her basketball past. In addition to Coach Charles, she was joined by longtime friend and former Goulbourn Hornet teammate Stephanie Carr. Having those familiar faces made the transition to OUA basketball a smooth one.

When asked how her experience in the OBA has helped prepare her she had nothing but praise for the organization and her fellow competitors. “OBA exposes a player to big games at an early age,” she said. “The provincial tournaments are so deep that any team has the chance to play for a medal, and a medal at provincials is a big deal.” Though Heather never claimed an Ontario Cup title with the Goulbourn Hornets or the Ottawa Guardsmen, her memories of the big tournaments will be with her forever. “In juvenile [with the Guardsmen in 2012] we had an undefeated season,” recalls Heather with a chuckle. “Once we got to provincials we lost our second game, the first loss of the year, on a foul at the buzzer where the player had to make one of two shots to win the game. We always joke about that game, that it will always be too soon to talk about it.” No matter what a player wants to get from the game of basketball, an Ontario Basketball Association club has it. Heather Lindsay is a shining example of how the experience with an OBA can help a player develop skills, but also develop relationship and work ethic, leading to success at the next level for basketball and for life.
