Geography Paraguay is a landlocked country in South America. The Paraguay River (Spanish: río Paraguay) divides the country into strikingly different eastern and western regions. Both regions are tropical climates. The eastern region extends from the río Paraguay eastward to the río Paraná, which forms the border with Brazil and Argentina. The eastern region has hills and mountains, an extension of a plateau in southern Brazil '

CLIMATE The paraneña region has only two distinct seasons: summer from October to March and winter from May to august. April and September are transitional months in which temperatures are below the midsummer averages and minimums may dip below freezing. Climatically, autumn and spring do not really exist.


The History and Government of Paraguay Timeline 1525- Alejo Garcia, a Portuguese explorer, visits Paraguay.

1999- President Raul Cubas was elected as a Colorado candidate.

1537- The interior pains of Paraguay starts to be colonized by the Spanish.

May 2000- The coup foiled.

Government Paraguay’s government is a Constitutional Republic. Their legal system has influences from argentine, Spanish, Roman, and French civil law models. They have a civil law system. Their current president is Luis Federico Franco Gomez. 1776- Paraguay switched from the Voice-Royalty of Peru to the Voice- Royalty of La Plata.

December 2002President Gonzales Macchi is voted for impeachment proceedings by Congress.

October 2011- Paraguayans accept a constitutional change, giving the vote to numerous citizens living abroad.

July 2012- After president Lugo was ousted, the South American Mercosur trading bloc suspends Paraguay until the next presidential election.

1992- A new democratic constitution was established.

1954- General Alfredo Stroessner seizes power in coup.

August 2005Paraguay held the first landlocked nation’s conference.

April 2008- Fernando Lugo defeats the ruling party candidate and becomes president

Branches of Government Executive Branch: The chief of state and head of government both include the president and vice president. The Council of Ministers make up the cabinet. The president and vice president were elected for a five-year term.

Legislative and Judicial Branch: In the legislative branch consists of the bicameral National Congress and the Chamber of deputies. The Chamber of Senators and the Chamber of deputies were both elected for a five- year term.
