Recently I registered for the Sprint National Championships for this year and found as soon as I hit the button of "no return" that my reality sank in. I had no idea what I had gotten myself into, until a friend of mine asked me if I was nervous, to which I replied, "Of course not. Wait, should I be?" Last year was my first year competing in triathlons and I did fairly well. So I guess I am asking you, did I get a little big for my tri britches? Dear Scared Sh$tless, ―Tri Virgin‖, Look here Sh$tless there are a few things to get straight in your mind. First you have conquered the threshold of wanna-be to triathlete. Second obviously there is a momentum to your journey. Your race experiences have added to your arsenal of weapons. Physically you have conquered the three disciplines. Mentally you have pushed beaten the thoughts of decreasing your speed. Your caliber of competition within yourself has evolved and let the dice roll with how it measures up against your competition in 2011 ! Go out there and do yourself, Team Psych, and El Fuego proud. You say that you have one season under your belt and you did well so I don’t see the conflict? National Championships are not necessarily for seasoned veterans only-that is the beauty of this sport. You can jump in head first, dip your toes in or heck just do a big cannonball and let everyone know you have arrived!! Do not let your mostly well intentioned friends insecurities project on you. You hit that button because there is a part of you that is confident that you can do it and want the challenge. All cards are stacked in your favor. There ARE NO expectations except what YOU expect from yourself. Next year will be different…after you kick booty this year everyone will be expecting you to defend your title and that my friend, can send even the toughest competitors to Mr. Davis soft plush couch so he can throw the tissue box at them and tell them to go back to mamby pamby pool swim tri-land. But you have nothing to lose and only experience to gain. Best way to approach this race is to lay out your training plan and stay focused on whatever your personal goals will be. Every workout that you complete (especially when you didn’t want to) will add to your mental toughness and confidence that you are in every way ….worthy!! Good luck to you on your maiden voyage! I'm being sued by Ironman because I have a tattoo on my ankle without their receiving compensation. PART TWO So Chuck just stood there dazed. Confused. Speechless to speak or think what his eyes had just read. I’m being sued. I'm being sued by Ironman. I'm being sued by Ironman because I have a tattoo on my ankle without their receiving compensation. I can’t believe it. I can’t believe my eyes. Yes, Chuck is being sued by Ironman corporation for use of their copyrighted symbol without the company receiving compensation through authorized use of the symbol. Chuck says to himself, I’ll call that tattoo parlor. I had never thought of getting a tattoo until I became a triathlete. As soon as I got sucked into this triathlete cult mentality of training competing and doing longer distances until all I could do is dream and finally achieved completing an ironman. Along the way I saw those other triathletes with their tattoos. I said to myself, If I'm ever going to get one that’s the tat I want. Now all that passion was just being stepped on. What is this? Corporate greed? One of the first calls he made was to Atomic Tattoos to speak with Spike. Spike
was the typical over-tattooed tattoo artist. What can I say? . To much jewelry in too many visible parts of his face. All the things you usually expect from a guy working at a tattoo parlor. Spike was no longer at the Parlor and the manager answering the phone was as angry as a hornet’s nest and ranted about firing Spike for bringing all the same lawsuit business his way. Enough! He said I have got to fight with zoning, health compliances, and uptight neighbors about having a tattoo parlor. Now I'm being sued by some major corporation for copyright infringement, unauthorized use of corporate intellectual property. How am I going to afford fighting a multimillion dollar funded legal team! He said a lot more before he hung up But due to that due to language I cannot repeat it here. So Spike has gone underground. I even tipped him twenty five bucks. Call me when I want another tattoo he told me. Where’s a spike-faced tattoo artist when you really need one? So much for him having my back. Really, you’ve got to ask yourself, What would be my reaction? After re-reading his instructions to go to the Ironman site and through Pay Pal send Ironman their thirteen percent Tattoo Authorization fee his blood began to boil, and
then boil over. I'm madder than hell and I'm not going to take it. If you want your money then come and get it! If you want my tattoo you will have to cut it out! You aren’t going to get either one while I'm alive. Bullshit! Said Chuck. So off he went dialing the number listed on the letter sent to him by the high powered legal ----. Of course all he got was some junior lawyer on the team that would actually talk to him. You know what Chuck got? 2005 Felt S22, (superlite) tri bike. It is a 50cm aluminum frame . The bike has carbon forks, seat post and aerobars. The components are shimano. I just put on a new drive train. It has 650 Easton wheels, includes computer as well. I don't have accurate mileage, however it has been ridden & is in good condition. 650 American Classic 58mm deep dish carbon fiber wheels.
