I was worried because I've been working and not training, and while I was much slower than I used to be, I still made it through, and I'm extremely happy about that. My 3:12:31 time is just dandy as far as I'm concerned. It was a very well run race and I felt the course was well laid out and well manned. A safe race. I've put on enough weight that it was pure will power that got me to fit inside that wetsuit... my tri clothes too. HA! The only problem I had on the course was it felt like I was in a full body vice for the first third of the swim! I got used to it though. Finally it was wonderful, as always to see my friends there! I finally got to meetMonika Cassidy! And a congratulations to Lisa Grieco Sandusky! 7th place women overall. Your amazing Lisa! (And I hope Sam is feeling better) Mark D Davis looking good out there on the run as we crossed paths! And Amandaand Chris awesome volunteer work out there today! With the exception of the expensive parking out there, this was a really great race! Now it's on to TriKW on 12/1 to end the season!" 3:12:31 45-49

World Triathlon Corporation Ironman World Headquarters

First let me take a moment to thank you for all you do for IRONMAN, the sport of triathlon and the athletes!

I loved getting to meet all of you at the race and learning about your teams/clubs. I thought you would be interested to learn that after the onsite folks registered Friday and Sunday (+1400), IRONMAN Florida (according to your race director) filled up in 45 seconds! In the next week or so we will be officially launching the IRONMAN TriClub program. As a partner club with IRONMAN there are several really cool things I’d like to outline for you. Membership drive: We are going to help you build your membership by going through our participant rosters and suggesting to athletes who are not affiliated with a club, clubs that are located in their geographical area. Once the on-line registration has been completed by the athletes racing IMFL next year, I will begin the process of suggesting club options to those athletes not on a “team”. Team/Club Awareness: For all IRONMAN races (full distance and 70.3’s) where you have at least 5 athletes racing we will give you a spotlight in the athlete and spectator guides for the races. At 8 weeks out from the race I will be contacting you and asking you for your race rosters, as well as a team picture and a brief description of your club. Club Communication: We are creating a Facebook page just for the club program. We will be inviting you (the club contact) to join this closed group. The page will be one of the primary ways I will communicate with you e.g. crazy sponsor deals, race deals, special events planned for the clubs etc. Look for that invite shortly after Thanksgiving.

Club Competition: many of you are aware that we launching a club competition as part of our program. Up for grabs is a position on the IRONMAN Podium which gets you: 1) Early entry for up to 50 athletes for the race of your choice 2) 4 VIP passes 3) Two FREE 70.3 entries 4) Electronic patch that you can use on your kits, website, etc. that tells the world  that your club/team made it to the podium with IRONMAN The way you get to the podium is simply to race with us. Every time one of your athletes races with IRONMAN (Full or 70.3 distance) they will generate Age Group Ranking (AGR) points. As they earn participant AGR they are also earning those points for the club. The club point’s bucket accumulates over the season and the club with the most points at the end of the season (Top 5 clubs by club size division) get to the podium. A club/team champion award is being added to the every domestic 70.3 and IRONMAN race. The club/team with the greatest number of AGR points – again by club size division – will have a place on our podium and will take home a podium award. We have 4 regional championships set up: St George 70.3, Florida 70.3, Kansas 70.3 and Syracuse 70.3. Not only will be throwing an amazing party for you guys there, have at least one IRONKIDS event, but teams/ clubs that send athletes to these races will generate 1.5 times the AGR points for their teams. Race Deals: For clubs that send 15 athletes to any of our four regional championships, we will give you one FREE relay entry for your team. If you send 30 athletes you will get 2 entries etc. If 50 of your athletes register BEFORE December 15th, 2012 we will give you your own porta potty !

We are also looking into offering you guys your own bike rack but we are waiting for Jimmy Riccitello (our head referee) to tell us if we pulled you from your age groups into one rack if that would give you a little bit of an advantage ď Š in the race – more to come on that! Finally we will be hosting a webinar on the TriClub Program as well as the AGR in early December. I will keep you posted. Again so great to meet you in PCB!! Please feel free to call me or email with any questions you may have! Liz Elizabeth Kollar Director of Athlete Development and Communications

Jim: 13:37:28 JP: 15:09:01 140.6. Standing on Panama City Beach at 6:45 A.M, along with 3,000 other athletes, there was a rush of emotions. And you could tell that everyone was feeling it. Some were scared, some excited; everyone was ready though. Every person had their own story about their past year and how they prepared. It was time for all the work to pay off. Jim Martin and I met up when we arrived at Panama City Beach the Wednesday night before the race. We both stayed at the Boardwalk Beach Resort Hotel, which is the race venue hotel. This as my first time ever being in Panama City Beach and I was blown away at the picturesque views and the beautiful beaches. My room looked over the gulf, directly at the swim start. It was immediate Goosebumps when I looked out from my room. I had a feeling that this was going to be an amazing event.

The Thursday before the race, Jim and I met up on the beach at 8 A.M to get a swim in. As soon as I walked out of hotel room and took a look at the water, my heart dropped and I got my “battle face” on. The water was rough. Four to six foot waves were breaking up to 50 feet from shore. Once you got past the breakers, the swells were intimidating. Quite a few people were out there getting swims in. Once Jim and I hit the water, I immediately laughed. If the water was like this on Saturday, 3000 people trying to swim in water like this would be… interesting. All in all, the practice swim was the best thing I could have done. Shedding off some nerves and getting a feel of the water put my mind at ease. After cleaning up after the swim, we walked over to pick up our registration packets at the Ironman Village. One thing I noticed was that everyone seemed extremely happy. And how couldn’t you! It was intense being around all your fellow athletes but everyone was happy just to be there. The feeling of being there was amazing. The rest of Thursday turned out to be a lot of fun. After picking up our packets, I ran into Mirinda “Rinny” Carfrae, 2010 Ironman World Champ. Later, I went to a banquet for Tri Clubs being represented at the race. There I had long discussions with Dave Ragsdale, who is one of the race announcers and is at most of the 70.3 events as well as the 140.6’s, Meredith Kessler, winner of previous Ironman events, and Jessica Jacobs, 2 time winner of Ironman Florida. It was an awesome day. Between all the professionals I met and all the age group athletes that I would be racing with on Saturday, I was on cloud nine.

On Friday, Jim and I went for one more pre-race swim. Short and sweet. The water had calmed down considerably from the day before. All indications were that the water would be even calmer on Saturday. All those “jitters” I had the day before were going away. The rest of the day was full of packing special needs and transition bags and turning in our bikes. Once that was all done, the rest of the day was full of rest, relaxation, and reflection. Race day: I woke up at 2 AM to get some carbs in and went back to bed and had the alarm on for 4:30. I hoped to get some more sleep but that wasn’t happening. At 4:30, I got out of bed, cleaned my self up a bit, and went down to body marking. After completing my last minute maintenance issues with the bike, dropping off the special needs bags, and getting body marked, it was a waiting game. The Swim: If you have never experienced it, a mass start swim at an Ironman is incredible. The pros went off 15 and 10 minutes before the age groupers. The rest of us, which was approximately 2940 people, all started swimming together. When the cannon went off, the mass of people began to enter the water. The waves were non existent from what I could see and our pre race swims prepared us for the worst conditions but we got close to the best.

The first loop was a battle. Until you reached the first turn buoy, which was about a ½ mile out in the water, you were constantly getting kicked, grabbed, and knocked into by other athletes. You couldn’t blame them though. All I did was try and stay in my own head and not panic or worry about anything but my swim. Getting back to shore after the first loop was a relief and I felt so good to be out of the “mess”. Between the first and second loop, you have to make a small “beach run” to start the swim again. Well, it didn’t seem like we were ever truly out of the water. I was walking in ankle to knee deep water and a few people in front of me stopped. It was a little frustrating as I just wanted to start swimming again but, as soon as I got in front of them, I saw what they “freaked out” about. The water had gotten rough. The second loop was much more challenging in my perspective. It was much more difficult to begin swimming and the swells in the water made it difficult to sight at times.

As happy as I was to finish my first loop, I couldn’t have been happier to get back to transition. For me, T1 was an awesome new experience. Being my first full iron, I was used to going to my bike rack to get all my belongings for my bike and the bike ride. Upon entering T1, you run into a changing room where you are greeted by a volunteer who hands you a bag with all your biking stuff and escorts you through the changing area. After getting all your bike stuff and running back out side, another volunteer greets you with your bike. Concierge service at its finest! The Bike: It was and wasn’t what I expected. In retrospect, I think that’s appropriate in a 112 mile bike. The bike was mostly flat. There were a few rollers but nothing that was overwhelming. Also, the road was in pretty good condi-

tion except for a 10 to 15 mile stretch starting at mile 50. Water stations were nicely spaced apart and they really broke up the longest part of the day well. One thing that I did not expect was the wind. Going out (the first 56), the wind was not bad and not a factor but the second half, it began to affect you. My biggest learning point from the bike was my nutrition. This was something I practiced but my excitement and nerves really threw off my game plan. Getting off the bike was such a great feeling. 26.2 more to go!

The Run: AMAZING weather. Before the race, I was told that this portion of the race would get cold, as it’s later in the day. Not only did it stay warm but there was no wind what so ever. Before the run, I put on arm warmers and I had to take them off at the half way point. The course was a two loop affair which broke up the run great. Usually, I’m not a fan of passing the finish line at the half way point of a run, but here it drove me to keep moving forward. For the most part, the course was full of spectators and they really kept you going. Not only did the spectators comprise of volunteers and athletes’ family and friends but there were lots of locals out…even till the very end of the run. In the last 5 miles of the race, there were at least two locals that ran with me and kept me motivated. My run was not what I had hoped for but a few miles in, the race became less about what my time was. It was all about reaching the finish line.

The Finish: It was what I had envisioned for 12 months. Spectators lined the streets and the finish line chutes. The energy was electric. You could see the finish line from a half mile away. As I ran up, so many emotions ran through me. That moment, crossing the finish line, was a culmination of many people’s efforts coming together. If I had the opportunity, I would have made a speech at the finish line and named every person who got me there. Instead, I let out a scream as the announcer said to me “YOU ARE

AN IRONMAN! The feeling was amazing. After a volunteer escorted me through the finish area and my parents got me back to my room, I showered, met up with Jim, and went back out to the finish line. If you haven’t ever been to an Ironman event or if you have but never went to see the last finishers, you are missing one of the most inspirational moments of your life. The music was louder than I ever heard it and thousands of people surrounded the finish. The winners of the race were in the finish chutes cheering on the last athletes to complete the race. Even Rinny, who came up short of the win, came back to cheer on the finishers! Overall, what an amazing experience. From the day we got to Panama City Beach till the midnight hour of the race. This was my first full Ironman race and it was one of the best days of my life. Thank you to everyone that I have trained with throughout the years, to my family, and my friends. Team Psych. Soooooooo Bad Ass!!!

Hi, Its Bailey Monarch. I am the walk coordinator for the Tampa Bay NEDA walk. I would like to invite you again to participate in a fabulous marketing and philanthropic opportunity – the Tampa Bay NEDA Walk. I am now a typical 19 year old freshman at college; but three and a half years ago, I found myself engulfed by a disease that I knew nothing about – anorexia. As part of my recovery, I wanted to unite the Tampa Bay community to raise awareness of eating disorders so that no one would have to face the pain and suffering that my family and I had to endure. In 2011, I created the first Tampa Bay NEDA walk and had 351 walkers and raised just under $34,000. In 2012, Tampa Bay, together with the sponsors, again rose to the challenge. Because of people like you,Tampa Bay's Second Annual National Eating Disorders Association Walk had 426 walkers and raised over $65,000! This year we hope to far surpass that number! However, I would love to have more treatment centers sponsor, form teams, and get involved in the walk. I want people that are struggling to be able to meet the professionals, have some one to talk to, and hopefully find the appropriate treatment center to jhelp them begin their journey to recovery. Over the past year, we have been contacted by many people who are struggling and don't know where to turn. My goal is for everyone struggling to be able to find help and support. I have attached the marketing brochure for this year. The walk will take place February 16, 2013. Please feel free to forward it to anyone who may be interested. Please check out "Why I fight" atwww.fighteatingdisorders.com. You can sign up to sponsor, walk, form a team, or join a team at www.fighteatingdisorders.com or www.nedawalks.org /Tampa2013. . We are certainly hoping for your support Look forward to talking to you soon. Thank you , Bailey Monarch Bailey & Cherie' Monarch Tampa Bay NEDA Walk Coordinators 2820 Meadowview CT Tarpon Spings, FL 34688 Cell: 727-422-3668 FightEatingDisorders@tampabay.rr.com
