"I NEED YOUR HELP 2014 IRONMAN Lake Placid I am taking on IRONMAN Lake Placid onJuly 27, 2014 as part of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) PowerTeam. The work ahead of him? Many months of training and then racing IRONMAN: 140.6 total miles (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride, 26.2 mile run). I have committed to raise at least $5,000 for the MMRF. The Cause: Help support a game -changing cancer research foundation that is extending the lives of patients and getting us closer to a cure! Multiple myeloma is, at this time, an incurable

blood cancer. And while the five-year relative survival rate remains one of the lowest of all cancers, the work of the MMRF has contributed to FDA approval of six new cancer drugs in less than ten years – a track record that’s unparalleled in the world of oncology. Some of these treatments are being explored as therapies for 30 other cancers as well. The MMRF is one of the most highly regarded cancer foundations in the world. An outstanding 90% of the total MMRF budget goes directly towards cancer research and related programming. The MMRF is consistently recognized in the top 1% of all charities reviewed by evaluators like Charity Navigator. My goal? To raise at least $5,000, and I need your help to get there! Please support my campaign for the MMRF at IRONMAN Lake Placid with a tax deductible donation of any amount. Your donation to the MMRF will help me reach my dream and support an outstanding cancer research organization. Thanks, Kim To make a donation, please visit my online fundraising page at: http:// w w w. f a c e b o o k . c o m / l / RAQG0YLa4AQHBGJfeyLdTVJ2 5NOe6rKfx-io9MyxdiXBZA/ w w w . a c t i v e . c o m / donate/14mmrfimlakeplacid/LPkdrury. Victor Karstnndiek finished 20th In collegiate Olympic Distance Division in Daytona Sunday AM...about 20 colleges competing, 5-10 athletes each...His cycle was dominant despite strong head wind.

The Northdale Pumpkin run was quite a splash this year - literally rained buckets before and during the run.. but Sam and Linda Teresi made their own sunshine by racing together on Sams pace - still good enough for 3rd pace in AG - way to go Linda !

The Rev3 70.3 in Venice FL. This was my 5th half and the first time I've done a Rev3 race. Overall I liked the race well enough. It was tough, like a half should be. And it had some rough spots, but they all do. The Swim. 39:41. I don't usually have a rough time with the swim, but I did this time. I don't usually get caught up in the BS middle, but did this time and just kept getting hit for the first few

hundred yards. And there was no way out to the side for open water to run so that part was no good. Eventually it spread out some. When we turned the second to last corner the line of sight on the buoys was directly in line with the just rising sun. It was the worst sighting I've ever experience in open water. You literally could not see 10 feet because the sun was totally blinding. I couldn't see the kayakers, the paddle boarders, boats. Nothing but searing intense light. I would stop and raise my hand up to shield the sun, but it didn't help. That alone made if the worst swim ever. I should have worn my mirrored goggles, but opted for clear ones instead. I don't know that it would have helped anyway. So my time was slow. I need to do some speed work in the pool before my next tri so I can go back to getting ahead and out of BOZO punching bag town in the beginning. The Bike. 3:00:10. I could not have planned it that close if I had tried. I told myself this race that I was going to completely take it easy on the bike so I didn't end up walking the run leg. I was shooting for a 3:00 bike leg. I managed to keep

my heart rate right between 130 and 135 almost the entire time. It made my speed a bit slow, but saved me later on the run. The roads were OK. Some rough spots, some very smooth spots. There were times when I was literally cussing the head wind, but then it would come back on the opposite leg. I don't think I've ever done a bike course with 50 turns before, but it wasn't bad. Traffic wasn't too bad, and there was a great volunteer and police presence. They did very well at stopping traffic for us. The Run. 2:39:31. It was ugly, but about exactly what I expected. It got hot. I consumed water at every opportunity. It did hurt. The course was great. Very little road, mostly park paths. 2 loop course. Around the airport and golf course. The volunteers couldn't have been better. There were lots of them and they were all really cheerful. No shortage of water or Gatorade or snacks. Great setup for a run. so I was hoping for maybe a 2:30 run, but really would be ecstatic with a 2:40. So this was right in there.

Overall time 6:26:57. Not my best, not my worst. I had a good time though, so I'm happy. I'd do it again. Jay Gallagher
