Mark, Just got home from the Naples HITS event – good event on a beautiful weekend. The event was very well run, and in my opinion, was a really nice size (600 competitors between all events – Open, Sprint, Olympic, Half, Full). The water was a bit cold (especially since I was one of three in the Olympic distance that decided to go it sans-wetsuit), and I really didn’t warm up until I was halfway through the bike. The only detractor of the event was that the course was open on some busy roads (6 lane roads that lead from north Naples to I-75). However, the race director did an awesome job in coordinating with the Collier County Sherriff and FHP to allow the bikers and runners to sail right through the intersections without any issues. In the end, I would go back again next year. My time was 2:40:45 – better than I was expecting for my first Olympic. I registered in the military category, but am re-thinking that one as I would have ended up 2nd in my age group. Pt J Patrick Thompson III I participated in the HITS Olympic Tri last week in Naples, FL in a time of 3h 10 min and came in 3rd for my age group of 45 years. Way cold waiting for the swim. But water was just fine. Ask me later about the speedo dude and bikini chicks. The bike was a bit too scary riding on the main roads but police did a great job escorting us through the intersections. Run was super and fast... well if you are fast I suppose. Very well organized. Happy most about that. Cheers Hugo Scavino Fred Ryzmeck

Here's sort of a report on The Frogman. There are a bunch of pictures on my Facebook from it. https:// www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001474168828&sk=photos I can copy them and send them if you like, but I didn't want to do it if it is just as easy for you to grab them from there. The report: Had a great time at the 3rd annual Tampa Bay Frogman 5K Open Water Swim. We doubled the number of participants this year from about 60 or so to about 120. The water temp was a bit warmer this year. I heard it was 57 and I also heard it was 61. There seemed to be pretty big swings in temperature throughout the course. It wasn't cold if you have a full wetsuit, neoprene cap and booties though. :) My wife Marie was my kayak support this year. She did an excellent job guiding me across the bay. One difference this year was the jellyfish, and it freaks me out when I'm hitting them. Marie told me later that she didn't want to say anything as it was happening but at one point there were jellyfish literally everywhere. It also freaks me out when I'm swimming across the shipping channel. It's cold, dark and I'm not at the top of the food chain there by any means. But I survived the journey without drowning or getting eaten. The swim course is on some really great bull shark fishing areas. All my fisherman friends who have fished the area just shake their heads as they recall the sharks they've seen in the area. So it's good. :) I did have the worst cramping issues I've ever encountered swimming though. Most of my swim was all arms because my legs were pretty useless due to calf and foot cramping. It was the worst, and as it's now Wednesday the pain has just subsided today. In the middle of the shipping channel about 2.5 miles into the swim both of my legs seized up in paralyzing cramps. It was really terrible. It took about 30 seconds or so for my muscles to release but it was crazy painful. Felt like 5 minutes. I

thought the kayakers were going to signal one the boats to come get me I was in so much pain. I managed to say "DONT raise your paddle! It's going to take a lot more than this to keep me from finishing." The cramps subsided to a non-crippling level and I continued on and finished. I finished in 1:49:34, which is disappointing. But considering that leg and foot cramps started about 15 minutes in and continued the entire way, I guess it's not so bad. Not that time really matters to me for events like this. It's a great event for a great cause and I'll definitely plan on it again next year. I highly recommend it, but know that it fills up about 2 months beforehand, and the fundraising takes time. Speaking of which, I fell well short of the fundraising goal they set for us, but donations are still being accepted for the event here: http:// www.imathlete.com/donate/jaygallagher Jay Stephen Sexauer 1:54:26 John Harris. 7:00:49 I am training for St. Anthony's Triathlon 2012 with Team in Training to benefit the Leu- kemia & Lymphoma Society.
