to A first timer’s experience. My girlfriend, myself, and other friends completed our first marathon in Jacksonville this Sunday. The Donna Marathon helps to raise awareness and support for breast cancer research and care. Saturday we started out in St Augustine. We rented some beach cruisers and toured the historic parts of the city visiting Castillo de San Marcos, a fort built in the 1600s, the oldest wooden schoolhouse, and also had dinner at local eatery. The race was looking to be a great run until the cold front came through. Sunday morning started out in the low 30s with winds above 10mph. We got stuck in traffic to get to the race start so we had a friend take the car
park while we ran to the race start (about 1.5 miles away). The beginning of the race started on ATP Tour Blvd in Ponte Vedra Beach. The first few miles were going through neighborhoods which had a lot of spectators. The amount of people standing in front of their houses cheering us on and thanking us for helping the cause for finding a cure for cancer was very uplifting. After the neighborhoods, the challenges starting to come. We exited the neighborhoods and entered the beach run portion. Between mile 6 to about mile 8.5, we encountered hard-packed sand, gusty headwinds, and loose sand blowing into our socks. We then turned into more neighborhood running with more and more crowds cheering us on. There were bands playing every few miles, kids running along side us, and even an old lady with a megaphone cheering from her 3rd floor balcony In my training, I have never ran more than 18 miles. After mile 18, the thoughts of completion were getting
more attainable until I ran out of my nutrition and then the cramping started. Throughout the whole race, I was past the 3:45 pace group. At mile 19, they flew right past me. Around mile 21, I heard footsteps of the 4:00 pace group coming by. I tried to keep up with them but their 4 min run/1 min walk pace was just too hard. I kept my own 4 min run/1 min walk pace that kept me going to the finish. The crowds saw my name on my bib so they called me out telling me to keep going. That had to be my motivation to finish With all the challenges so far, nothing compared to the challenge starting at mile 23. Heading south on A1A, we then turned on to an onramp which was a curving, slanted uphill that looped 270 degrees counterclockwise heading west. If that wasn't enough, mile 25 gave us a bridge going over one of the many rivers. That bridge had a group of young kids cheering us on at the top playing loud music and holding up big posters Finally I saw mile 26 then the finish line which wasn't really the finish
line. I was a big sign that had 'Finish' in big lettering. The slogan of the race was 'Finish Breast Cancer' which is what I really saw. The final cramping started on the final straightaway on my calf but I just dealt with and jogged to the finish. I completed my first marathon in 4:11:07. My goal was 3:45 but with all the bathroom breaks and weather, I'll take that time any day.asug Jason Cs Jason Casuga

These rides will be in the 15-25 mile range. They will vary in locations. The goal is to develop skills in riding, especially with a group. There will be a experienced team member that will agree to keep the beginner rider on track to the end of the ride. There is no excuse to say you have to be stronger or more experienced. the point of these rides is to help the beginner or novice athlete become a triathlete and elevate skills in riding for the beginning triathlete.
