While Cooper Calvo may be able to ride his way to a first place finish, this event could not have been done without the numerous Team Psych Volunteers.

10/22/2011: Great Floridian Intermediate Distance Triathlon (1.2 mi swim, 38 mi bike and 9.3 mi run) 3:32:55 for 3rd Overall. The Great Floridian distance festival included the Ultra Distance, Intermediate Distance, Super Sprint and even a stand alone 15K run. There were only about 100 starters in the intermediate race which gave me the opportunity to make the overall podium despite my relatively advanced age. The Ultra and Intermediate distances both included the steep climb over Sugarloaf Mountain so this was not an easy course. It was 51 degrees when transition opened, and the water was a nice 71 so it actually felt good getting wet. It was still cold out after the swim so the first 10 miles on the bike was pretty brisk. After that it was time to get down to business. If you've raced at Clermont before, the run followed the standard route on the bike path...flat at first, then climbing and rolling with some steep pitches as you near the turnaround. With the small field there was only one wave. I came out of
the water about 15th or so, then had the best bike leg of the field and came into T2 tied for 2nd with a young man from Jax. I beat him out of T2 but he passed me quickly at only 1/2 mile into the run. At the first turn around I could tell that the first two young ladies were moving fast, and I had to work very hard to keep from getting chicked. I held off the first woman by a mere 13 seconds. Clermont is where you need to go if you want a challenging course; there's nothing in Tampa that compares to the hills over there. And if you are working your way up the distance ladder, the intermediate distance at the Great Floridian is a great way to bridge the gap from an olympic to the half-ironman. A View from Pau Hough

Hi Mark, The Marine Corps marathon in my opinion was the most organized marathon of the 17 I have had the pleasure of running. I was so proud of the women and men of our US Marines that lined the course being sure we had everything we needed. Watching the three Marines parachuting before the start was emotional; they landed next to where I was standing. I had tears rolling down my cheeks..
Anyhow, had a wonderful time and finished about where I thought I would at this point in my life and limited training. I had to run a mile back to my hotel and made it to the airport in time to catch a flight home on Sunday at 4:59.
I send a big thank you to my 3 & 1 Galloway group leaders Janet and Beth and Shonna, Maryam, Vicki, Mary and others for allowing me to I was running for a 9-year old little girl, Joselyn. Four weeks later she was able to once to run with the Galloway group and again play the piano. Welcome to the innuagural RFTB Triathlon. Thank you triathletes and volunteers for making this a successful event. We look forward to next years race. Already we have a long list of quality improvements to make
the race more dynamic and, yes more interesting and fun. First thoughts are a walk the plank swim start. Second thought is ferry athletes out to “Devils Island Barge” and swim to shore.

Bike course will be strung out to reduce bike traffic. There will be two minute penalties to any bike that has cannons attached as this was an unfair advantage to some riders this year. USAT officials are busy as I write this to add this to their rule books.
The run was sweet with a scenic bay view. I believe the plan for next year is to incorporate one of those rope swings to board a vessel challenge as part of your 5K. Athlete Goody Bag For a first year event with limited budget its hard to come up with something you

about the T Shirt review for each triathlon this season. So when it came to RFTB Triahtlon my only criteria was it must have a badass skull on it. Joey Crawford sent us the image and it had so much likeness to the Team Psych Skull “ EL FUEGO we said lets do it. So here are a few comments from participants. OFFICIAL RACE FOR THE BOOTY WINDOW DECAL Triathlete Comments: I swam. I biked. I ran. I Raced for the Booty…and I got it! "Thanks to all the team members who volunteered at Race for the Booty! It was impressive to see so many volunteers on the bike and run courses, and the costumes were awesome!" What a great season-ending event! You guys definitely put on a fun - and challenging - race. You can check out my recap here! It’s obvious to me that I only placed this well because I had a fast T2. But frankly, I don’t care. I had a great race – and right now, going into the off season, that’s all I care about. I know what I need to work on going forward, but I’m finishing the season on a high note. *************** As for the race itself, I would highly rec-
ommend Race for the Booty! The staff – and volunteers – were wonderful. The course was well marked – and they warned us in advance of the tight turns. Everything was well organized – a BIG plus for the first year of an event!

result 1:17:46 RFTB was a great race. Team Psych members that were involved should be very proud of putting on a really fun and first class event. In my 15+ years of competing in tri’s it was the
T-Shirt Post Race Party most energetic and supportive group of volunteers and fans that I remember. I was told by one volunteer it was partly due to their effort to keep warm, but it warmed the hearts of the racers. Great job by Team Psych and the army of volunteers that were recruited. Thanks to those that put in so many hours of volunteer work, it makes one proud to wear the skull and crossbones.

Jay Gallagher Miami Ironman 70.3 Time: 6:15:46 Brutal conditions. Lots of rain. Strong current on the swim. 25+ mph winds on wet roads. It was a blast! Pro Woman race winner Leanda Cave said they were the toughest conditions she's raced in all year, and that the bike conditions frightened her. Quite a statment coming from someone who did Kona 3 weeks ago.

A message from the co founders I just want to give the season a review of our Give Back efforts by Team Psych. It starts with a phrase “business as usual. What is business as usual for the team is that every new member that joins begins the Give Back empnassis of the team. Every time a member re-news their membership they repeat the Give Back. Five dollars of every new and re-newal membership has gone to our charity endeavors. Soldier Ride: Our membership began the season by volunteering for the innagural Soldier Ride of Tampa Bay. The ride through Tampa was made safer with the Ride Marshall efforts by Team Members. Nearly two hundred riders inclucing veterans from Iraq and Afganistan rode with Team Psych watching their backs. Tornado Relief: When tragedy and folks from ___ were devastated by tornados, Team Psych teamed up with surrounding teams from the __ area. We sent funds and goods which were deliverd to families in the wind ravaged area. Youth Triathlon Series: We covered the Fish Hawk, Bob Sierra, and Palm Harbor events. One hundred-fifty to two hundred kids at each event were covered on the bike course by our volunteers. Crying children, broken chains, spills on the course are our specialty. We gave away three hundred water bottles at these events. Triathlon Camps Sponsorships were awarded to children whose family means would not have provided them a place at the several week long athletic programs. The entry fee to the YTS event at Bob Sierra YMCA was covered by Team Psych. The kids in the camp were given team psych tshirts, water bottles, tattoos, and bike decals. Special thanks to Steve & Laura Toll and ISM, Chris Bulnes / Bulnes & Buckheimer, and to Kieth & Mary Colini. Cystic Fibrosis Ride: To date four hundred etghty-five dollars raised for the Ride for Life.
