Each participant MUST select a club from the pulldown menu in order to be registered under your club. Each club will submit a roster by September 15th which will be cross referenced against the IMAthlete registration list. Here’s the link to the registration site… https://www.imathlete.com/events/EventReg/EventReg_SelectType.aspx?fEID=12544&fNew=1 The host hotel (Homewood Suites) is also offering special group rates for club members. Here is a race report if you're looking to fill some dead space lol. I am still awaiting on finisherpix to mail me my links to download my pictures without the watermarks. I'll send one or two of them in when I get them. Augusta Ironman 70.3 Race report September 30th, 2010 started at 3:30 am as a cool and misty 70 degree morning. Today would be my first 70.3. After JP and I found a place to park at 5:15 a.m. we made our way to the host hotel where we hitched a ride on one of many bright yellow school buses to the transition area over one mile away from the race start. The excitement and anxiety was palpable in the bus while people were listening to there Ipods, and making small talk like they were waiting to checkout at a grocery store line. When we arrived at transition the bikes were covered in the cool morning dew. After filling tires, bottles, and checking then rechecking that everything was where it needed to be for my days adventure we made our way back to the buses. My swim wave was scheduled for 8:44am. nearly 2 hours after the pros. I decided to part ways with everyone for a bit and head back to my car for a short nap/relaxation time. I listened to some music that I had trained with over the course of the last months and tried my best to “get my head into the gameâ€?. After about 45 mins I made my way back to the host hotel where I found a very clean and private bathroom for one last chance to umm‌ freshen up. I walked down to the swim start with wetsuit and morning bag in hand. I found a few fellow triathlete friends and had the typical small talk. We slowly all dwindled down as our waves came closer. I dropped off my morning bag, donned my
wetsuit and made my way nervously to the swim start. “Males green cap ages 25-29 with last names A-K” they yelled over the loud speaker. Holy crap I thought to myself… it’s time! We made our way down the zig zag of the docks to the swim start dock. We all jumped in and started treading water while we waited the for the cannon to fire. The water was 75.9 degrees so just barely legal for wet-
suits. I took this chance to take a deep breath and think back to all the training/races I have done in the mere 20 months I have been into triathlon. After all this is just another training session right?? BOOOM!!! We were off! Luckily for JP, Luke and myself we made it a point to swim some of the course the day before so I was familiar with the feel, look, and taste of the water. I made my way to the left as close to the buoys as possible. There was a lot of vegetation that I was trying to get away from and knew the current would be stronger with deeper water and less vegetation. This was also a smart idea because about .25 mile into the swim my goggles fogged up and the only thing I could make out were the big yellow buoys. I was alone for most of the swim except for the occasional swimmer who managed to grab my ankles, but with a couple strong kicks backed off. I found it tough swimming in my full sleeve wetsuit and feel I could have posted a faster split in a sleeveless or without one at all. As we approached the swim finish 1.2 miles down river I looked at my watch in amazement! 29:18 mins! 769/188 in my age group, and 1220/3,335 overall. I made it to the wetsuit strippers, and into transition at a fast jog. I
put on my heart rate monitor, helmet, race belt, and bike shoes and made it out of transition in 5:06. The bike is a somewhat hilly (1,100 ft gain) 56 mile ride through Georgia and South Carolina. The sun still had not shown up, and in reality I was a bit chilly on the bike till I got warmed up. There was little to no wind. My plan was to take the first 5 miles on the bike to get my heart rate down into the 130’s and slowly build back up to my zone 2-3 heart rate zone. All was good until mile 6. I adjusted my Garmin Forerunners wrist strap and POP! It flew off my wrist at 20mph and tumbled down the road. I slowed to a stop, dropped the bike into the grass and wobbled back to find it. Luckily it wasn’t in a million pieces, but I did lose one of the pins in the watch band portion. I stuffed it in my full bento box and could not access it during my bike ride. I took a deep breath and just focused on my respiratory rate and perceived effort. I studied the bike course prior and knew where I could push it, and where I should
hold back a bit. I passed what seemed to be a TON of people on the bike. I ended my bike leg in 2:48:58 mins @ 19.9mph! 56/188 in my age group, and 1039/3,335 overall. After dropping off my bike and making sure my running shoes were on just how I wanted them for the upcoming half marathon I made my way out onto the run. I was able to hold my Garmin in my hand while I ran so I could keep an eye on my heart rate and pace. As I started running I looked around and could not find the sun anywhere! It was still in the mid 70’s. I settled into 9 min/miles instantly and with a low zone 3 heart rate. I was feeling great and knew I could maintain this pace for the entire run if I just focused and did not try to go any harder. The run course was a 2 lap flat course and brought you through downtown Augusta where there were thousands of
spectators cheering us on. My run was uneventful. I also felt like I passed a TON of people on the run which was a great morale booster and made my 9 min/mile pace feel justified. At mile 7 my knees and hamstrings were hurting pretty bad, but I just closed
my eyes and pushed the pain out of my mind. When I approached mile 10 I did head math and realized my overall time was going to be faster than I expected. With 2 miles left I put my Garmin in my rear tri pocket and went ass to elbows with all I had left. I made the final right hand turn to the finishers chute. There was not a soul in sight! I had the whole chute to myself. I felt like a pro coming under the ever famous Ironman banner. I could not stop screaming and air pumping! People were cheering me on the whole way! I think they were a bit startled at first of my excitement. I finished the run in 1:55:12 @ 8:47 min/mile. My overall time for Augusta 70.3 was 5:21:15! I placed: 48/188 in my age group and 824/3,335 overall.
If you are looking for your first 70.3 with unbelievable volunteers, tons of spectators, and beautiful scenery then this is the race for you. There is not one thing I would have changed about the weekend! Story By Keith Bauer http://inloveandpeanutbutter.com/

Me and Sgt Major in Switzerland Ran in the 1st Annual Iron Soldier Sprint Triathlon this weekend. I sported the Team Psych racing gear. Some of my fellow USASMA students raced as well (an international team Singapore, Switzerland and Sweden) and they like my Team Psych gear. But they took some photos and I will try and get copies and send them to you. What is the cut off for this week’s news letter? I have attached the logo for this race.
I took 2nd out of 17 in my age group and 18th overall at the inaugural Iron Soldier Sprint Triathlon. The race was on Saturday the 29th of September. There were a total of 224 athletes. The race consisted of a 400 meter pool swim (first one and all I can say is I miss the open water) followed by a 17.2 mile ride and a 3.1 mile run. Russell Price I was not happy with my swim, as I know I can swim faster. I did the bike in 41:34 with an average speed of 24.8 mph. My run time was 23:51 with an average pace of 7:42. Overall it was a good race and they will have another one in May, and I will look at getting 1st in my age group this time and move up in the overall standings. As I am sure you can guess South west Texas just does not have a lot of triathlon opportunities. Russell Price
