EXISTING & PROPOSED WATER SUPPLY NETWORK IN GREATER BAKU AREA

Water supply network – existing challenges No water supply or incomplete supply in 50 villages and settlements out of 75; 60 % water losses in transportation of water to Greater Baku due to losses in the distribution network and unaccounted water Proposed key solutions:  Construction of 85 new water reservoirs;  Construction of 250 km of new main transmission pipelines;  Rehabilitation and reconstruction of 8108 km of water supply network;  Installation of meters, detection of losses, and introduction of SCADA and smart meters Note: The new water and sanitation system Master plan of Greater Baku for 2035 has been prepared by the Azersu JSC.

EXISTING & PROPOSED SATINATION NETWORK IN GREATER BAKU AREA

Sanitation network – existing challenges: Only central part of the area is completely connected to sanitation network; Insufficient capacity of Waste Water Treatment Plants (WWTP); Roughly 50% of untreated wastewaters are discharged either into surface water basins or into the sea by directing to Storm Water network. Proposed solutions: Construction of sanitation network in all settlements across the peninsula; Restoration and reconstruction of 6,300 km of existing sewerage network Construction of 833 km of new trunk collectors/tunnels Construction of 11 new Waste Water Treatment Plants

EXISTING & PROPOSED STORM WATER SYSTEM IN GREATER BAKU AREA

Existing challenges:  Only 30% of Greater Baku area is connected to the storm water system;  The major part of the network is very obsolete an is about 50 years old;  The system is interconnected with sewerage network to protect from overflow; Proposed solutions:  Introduction of integrated urban water management approach;  Disconnect from sewerage system;  Establishment of new natural basins  Construction of 775 km of trunk collectors and 9 km of tunnels  Construction of 3378 km of additional network and 84 km of storm channels  Reconstruction of existing network

EXISITNG & PROPOSED ELECTRIC POWER SUPPLY SYSTEM IN GREATER BAKU AREA

Existing power plants and their capacity: Sumgait PS (925 MW), Sangachal PS (300 MW), Baku PS (104 MW), Baku TPS (106 MW), Shimal PS (400 MW), Tamiz Shahar PS (43 MW), Boyuk – Shor PS (330 MW), Hovsan PS (104 MW), Surakhani PS (104 MW), Gobustan PS (900 MW) Proposed extension in capacity until 2030: Second steam power plant in “Shimal” TPS with estimated capacity of 409 MW “Gobustan” TPS in Lokbatan - Alat industrial zone with estimated capacity of 900 MW

EXISITNG & PROPOSED GAS SUPPLY NETWORK IN GREATER BAKU AREA

Future prospects for gas supply by 2030:  Construction of new distribution lines and high pressure lines;  Construction and installation of new gas distribution and regulation stations;  Construction of bypass gas pipeline across Garadagh, Binagadi, Absheron, Sabunchu, Khazar, Surakhani and Khatai districts;  Rehabilitstion of exisitng gas network

Contaminated areas covers 30,608 ha in Greater Baku.  23,428 ha – oil-contaminated lands  7,180 ha –contaminated lakes Remediated and cultivated lands by SOCAR - over 800 ha

ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT

The key environmental challenges are:  Contamination of land due to onshore oil extraction and industrial production in recent 100 years;  Pollution of lakes in Greater Baku area;  Illegal dump sites caused by inefficient solid waste management system;  Pollution of Baku Bay as a result of discharge of untreated wastewater;  Land pollution in the area of former industrial enterprises located in the central part of Baku
