RED RAIDERS RETURN HOME TO HOST OKLAHOMA STATE Texas Tech returns to Rocky Johnson Field this weekend to host a key Big 12 Conference series with Oklahoma State. The Red Raiders, standing at 1-5 in league play so far, battle an Oklahoma State club that is coming off a series win last weekend against Iowa State. This is the first of the final two Big 12 home series for the Red Raiders, who close their home slate April 25-27 against Iowa State. This weekend’s series begins with a 7 p.m. first pitch Friday evening and continues at 4 p.m. and 12 p.m. Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Every game of the series will air live on TexasTech.TV.

Brother, Daren Hays, is the current softball coach at Lubbock Christian University.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS • Winningest softball coach in Texas Tech history. • During his four seasons, Texas Tech is tied for the third-winningest Big 12 program with 151 wins.

• Only head coach in school history to lead Tech to multiple trips to the NCAA Tournament (2010, 2011, 2012).

• Turned around a program that was 15-42 the year prior to his arrival. Tech is 151-77 since then.

• Over 40 school records broken during his tenure. • Only coach in Texas Tech history to coach both a male and female sport (men’s basketball and softball).

• Led Lubbock Christian to the NAIA National Championship in only the program’s first year of existence.

• Recorded a .741 career winning percentage in his six seasons as a collegiate softball coach.

ON THE HORIZON The Red Raiders return to the road next week, traveling to Lawrence, Kan. for a three-game series with Kansas. The series will run April 17-19 at Arrocha Ballpark. Texas Tech will then close its home schedule the following weekend with a three-game set against Iowa State on April 25-27 at Rocky Johnson Field. OKLAHOMA STATE ALL-TIME SERIES Texas Tech and Oklahoma State will meet for the 42nd time in school history Friday evening when they begin a three-game series at Rocky Johnson Field. The two schools have split the past two series against each other with the Red Raiders winning the 2012 three-game set in Lubbock before the Cowgirls won the 2013 series. In each of the two series, the winning team recovered from a Friday night loss to win the final two games of the series. Tech enters this weekend having won four of the last five contests against Oklahoma State in Lubbock as the Red Raiders swept a two-game series with the Cowgirls in 2010. Despite the recent success against the Cowgirls, Tech is just 14-27 all-time against Oklahoma State, including an 8-12 mark in games played in Lubbock. Tech head coach Shanon Hays is 5-5 in his four-plus seasons against Oklahoma State. COACHING TIES This weekend’s series will mark the fifth time Texas Tech head coach Shanon Hays will face his longtime friend in Oklahoma State skipper Rich Wieligman. The two head coaches are both graduates of Lubbock Christian University as both played baseball for the Chaps in the 1980s. Wieligman was a member of the 1983 NAIA National Championship club that was led by longtime LCU and Texas Tech head coach Larry Hays. Wieligman turned to softball years later and was an assistant coach at Texas Tech from 2001-02. He met Tech associate head coach Aly Sartini during his stay at Texas A&M while she was an assistant coach at Arkansas. He later reunited with fellow Tech assistant Greg Evans at Oklahoma State during his stay as the associate baseball coach on Frank Anderson’s staff. Evans began his coaching career at Lubbock Christian soon after Wieligman graduated but helped tutor the budding professional player during offseason workouts. Hays and Wieligman are 5-5 against each other over the past four seasons.

AUCOIN BECOMES NATIONAL LEADER IN SAVES Gretchen Aucoin became the NCAA leader in saves last Saturday as the sophomore recorded her school record sixth save of the season by posting the final two outs in Texas Tech’s 6-5 victory over Texas. Aucoin snapped Erin Crawford’s previous school record of four saves earlier this season with her two innings of relief in the series finale against Texas State on March 23. Aucoin also increased her lead in the career record book as her eight saves are two more than the previous mark of six that had been set by Amanda Renfro (1998-01), Julie Hauck (2004-06), Erin Crawford (2003-06) and teammate Cara Custer (2012-present). Aucoin needs two more saves this year to match Lisa Ferguson’s Big 12 single-season record of eight that she set for Baylor in 2004. TEXAS TECH APPROACHING STOLEN BASE AND TRIPLES RECORDS Prior to this season, Texas Tech head coach said his team would be different than years past as the Red Raiders would have speed across the diamond. Through 42 games, his preseason statement could not be more true as the Red Raiders are closing on both the Tech single-season record for stolen bases and triples. Backed by a Big 12-leading 29 stolen bases from freshman Sydni Emanuel, Tech needs just eight more stolen bases as a team to match the school record of 81 from the 2001 season. Emanuel is five stolen bases from tying the individual record herself which was set by Ashley Parker in 2006. Eight different Red Raiders, meanwhile, have recorded a triple this year, giving Tech 16 already this year which is one shy of the school record from 1997. The Red Raiders lead the Big 12 in both categories this season and rank among the top-25 teams nationally in both categories as well. The level of success Tech has achieved under fifth-year head coach Shanon Hays has been impressive as the Red Raiders are one of just three Big 12 programs to record at least 30 wins in each of the past four seasons, joining both Oklahoma and Texas. Hays, who inherited a 15-42 team a year prior to his arrival, could become just the third Big 12 coach all-time to win at least 30 games in each of the first five seasons at a respective school. He would join the likes of Patty Gasso (Oklahoma) and Glenn Moore (Baylor) as the only coaches to do so in the conference’s existence. 2014 TEXAS TECH SOFTBALL EMANUEL ALREADY NEARING TECH STOLEN BASE RECORD Sydni Emanuel quest to break the Texas Tech single-season stolen base record continues this weekend as the freshman enters the Oklahoma State series with 29 on the year, five shy of Ashley Parker’s school record from 2006. Emanuel, who has been recovering from an ankle injury during the first two weeks of Big 12 play, already ranks second in school history with her 29 stolen bases as she is one of just three Red Raiders all-time to total 20 in a season, joining the likes of Parker and Sandy Butler. The Missouri City, Texas native ranks second in the Big 12 entering this weekend, trailing only Oklahoma State’s Shelby Davis, who has swiped 33 bags entering this weekend. She also ranks 11th nationally, averaging 0.74 stolen bases per game. NEWS & NOTES FROM AROUND THE DIAMOND • Texas Tech jumped up three spots to No. 55 in this week’s ratings percentage index (RPI) poll that is calculated each week by the NCAA. The Red Raiders have a chance to increase that ranking over the upcoming weeks, facing No. 60 Oklahoma State, No. 37 Kansas and No. 18 Oklahoma over the final four weeks of the season. • Texas Tech is the only Big 12 program to face two of the conference’s top three teams in the preseason poll over the first two weekends. • Texas Tech is 13-4 this season at Rocky Johnson Field and impressive 87-36 all-time under Shanon Hays (71 percent). • The Red Raiders are hitting .299 as a team this year at Rocky Johnson Field with 15 home runs and 84 RBI. • Texas Tech is averaging just over five runs per game in 17 contests this year at Rocky Johnson Field. • Friday night’s series opener will mark the 10th night game for the Red Raiders this year. NEWS & NOTES - INDIVIDUALS • Cara Custer’s win over Texas last Saturday marked the 50th of her career. She is now one win shy of matching Ashly Jacobs for second all-time in Texas Tech history. • Custer’s 11 wins this season are the most on the team and rank tied for sixth in the Big 12 heading into this weekend. • Custer has been Texas Tech’s most successful pitcher against Oklahoma State as the junior is 2-2 with an 0.99 ERA in 28.1 career innings versus the Cowgirls. She nearly led the Red Raiders to a series win over OSU last season in Stillwater, tossing a career-high 9.2 innings in a 2-1 loss in 10 innings during the Saturday game. • Sydni Emanuel heads into this weekend still ranked among the top 15 players in the country for stolen bases as the freshman is 11th, averaging an impressive 0.74 per game. She is also among the national leaders in runs per game, batting average and triples. • Emanuel is currently second in the Big 12 with 29 stolen bases and 38 runs scored. Her .402 batting average currently ranks sixth in the conference entering this weekend. • Texas Tech and Texas are the only two Big 12 teams with two or more players with 19 or more stolen bases this season. • Lea Hopson ranks tied for fifth in the Big 12 with 19 stolen bases. Hopson is also among the league leaders for doubles and triples as well. • With one more stolen base from Hopson, she and Emanuel will be the first set of teammates in school history to record 20 stolen bases in a season. The only two players in program history to reach the 20 stolen base mark previously were Ashley Parker (2006-07) and Sandy Butler (1998, 2000-01). • Hopson has already been plunked 14 times this season which currently ranks third in Texas Tech single-season history. Robyn Wike set the school record in 2007 when she was hit 16 times while Emily Bledsoe ranks second after being plunked 15 times in 2012. • Hopson ranks 24th nationally in hit by pitches per game as she is being hit in approximately one-third of Texas Tech’s contests this season. • Emanuel and Hopson are both one triple shy of the Texas Tech single-season school record that belongs to Leah Legler (2008, Denise Jackson (1997-98) and Kim Martinez (1997). • Emanuel needs to come across to score six more times to already enter the top-10 in single season school history as the freshman has accounted for 38 of Texas Tech’s runs so far this season. • Cassie McClure enters this weekend ranked sixth nationally and first in the Big 12 with four sacrifice flies this season. • McClure has totaled 32 RBI so far this season in the middle of the Texas Tech lineup which ranks sixth in the Big 12. • McClure is the first Red Raider freshman to record at least 30 RBI in a season since Mikey Kenney recorded 40 in 2010. Kenney went on to be the Texas Tech career leader with 149 during her career from 2010-13. • Gretchen Aucoin has been Texas Tech’s most successful hitter at home this year as she has recorded a .423 average (11-for26) in 17 home games this season. • In the circle, Aucoin is the NCAA leader with six saves already this season. She also ranks 52nd nationally in ERA and 46th in strikeouts per game. • Aucoin has fanned a team-high 106 batters this season, leaving her just 18 shy of entering the top 10 in Texas Tech single-season history. • Kierra Miles is also approaching the 30 RBI mark as she has 28 entering this weekend’s series with Oklahoma State. • The middle of Texas Tech’s infield consisting of Lea Hopson and Samantha Camello are the only two Red Raiders to start in all 42 games this season. Camello leads all players as she has started in 95-straight contests heading into this weekend. • Sydnie Tapia enters this weekend’s series having recorded at least two hits in each of her last two games. Tapia finished 4-for-7 in the final two games of the Texas series. • Sarah Weber made her first career start last Saturday at Texas, going 1-for-1 at the plate while playing in left field. • Texas Tech has two players that hail from the state of Oklahoma in sophomore Brooke Scott and freshman Kierra Miles. • Brittany Talley has continued to be among the more efficient pitchers in the country this year as the senior left-hander ranks 71st nationally in walks per seven innings entering this weekend. Talley is also on pace to finish second all-time at Texas Tech as she has issued just 1.62 walks per seven innings throughout her career. • Talley is currently on pace to finish second all-time at Texas Tech with a 2.52 career ERA. The senior is also among the top 10 in nearly every other career pitching category as well. • Talley and Aucoin are looking to become just the second pair of teammates to record ERAs under 2.00 this season, joining Amanda Renfro and Emily Hayes who did so in 1998. Hayes and Renfro are the only pitchers in school history to finish with an ERA under 2.00 in a single season.

AUCOIN REMAINS AMONG BIG 12 LEADERS IN ERA Despite picking up three losses to open Big 12 play, Gretchen Aucoin continues to rank among the Big 12 leaders in ERA as the sophomore is 8-6 on the season with a 1.81 ERA. Four of Aucoin’s six losses this season have come when the righthander has allowed two or less runs. She enters this weekend ranked fifth in the Big 12 in ERA while also ranking among the conference leaders in most other pitching categories as well. Aucoin struck out a career-high 13 hitters against the North Texas on March 19 as she is averaging an impressive 8.01 per game this year. The Ocean Springs, Miss. native became the Tech single-season and career leaders in save the following weekend against Texas State as she closed out her fifth game of the season. RED RAIDERS TURNING INTO OWN VERSION OF CARDIAC KIDS Texas Tech’s ability to bounce back from early deficits could not have been more apparent in series wins over both North Texas and Texas State. The Red Raiders trailed in four of their five games before rallying in dramatic fashion to improve to 27-9 on the season. Lea Hopson kick-started Tech’s stretch of rallies with a solo home run in the sixth inning that propelled the Red Raiders to a 5-4 victory over North Texas in the doubleheader finale. Tech was forced to rally again in its series opener with Texas State as the Red Raiders won off a bases-loaded walk to Kristi Belshe in the bottom of the seventh. Gretchen Aucoin wrapped the successful week with a fifth-inning grand slam, the first of her career, that helped the Red Raiders overcome a 3-1 deficit in the series finale. Tech has won a total of six games this year when trailing or tied after four innings. AUCOIN HONORED AS BIG 12 PITCHER OF THE WEEK Texas Tech sophomore Gretchen Aucoin became the third Red Raider to receive a conference weekly award on March 25 as she was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week after her dominating performance against both North Texas and Texas State. Aucoin went 1-0 with a 0.93 ERA in 15.0 innings last week where she surrendered just two runs while striking out an impressive 26 hitters during that span. The Ocean Springs, Miss. native opened the week with her third complete game of the season as she allowed just one run off six hits while striking out a career-high 13 hitters against North Texas. Her 13 strikeouts marked the most for a Tech pitcher since Amanda Renfro fanned a school record 15 hitters twice during the 2001 season. Aucoin came on in relief to records saves in both series finales, giving her an NCAA-leading five now on the season. Her save against Texas State snapped both the Tech single-season and career records. EMANUEL NAMED BIG 12 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Sydni Emanuel was named the Big 12 Player of the Week on March 18 after hitting .565 (13-for-23) at the Titans Classic and San Diego State Classic (does not include Harvard game). She is just the second Red Raider freshman to ever garner a conference weekly award, joining Amanda Renfro, who was honored as the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week twice in 1998. Emanuel finished with two or more hits in four of six games, including a 4-for-4 performance in the Titans Classic finale against host Cal State Fullerton last Friday. The Missouri City, Texas native totaled a .583 on-base percentage and frustrated opponents on the base paths from there, stealing nine bases to bump her season total to a conference-leading 28 already this season. Emanuel stole at least one base in all six games, including two in three-consecutive games against UNLV, Fullerton and Long Beach State. TALLEY MATCHES BEST START TO A SEASON SINCE 2011 Brittany Talley matched her best start to a season at the Titans Classic as the southpaw improved to 8-0 on the year with her victory over host Cal State Fullerton. The undefeated record matched Talley’s previous best start to a season from 2011 when she opened her collegiate career 8-0 as well. Talley ended 2011 with a 14-7 overall record which marked her most wins in a season so far in her career. Talley’s undefeated run came to an end on March 17 with a 6-0 loss to Harvard where she allowed only one earned run over the first four innings. Her 2.07 earned-run average ranks ninth in the Big 12 entering this weekend as she has allowed just 25 earned runs in 84.2 innings this year. TAPIA CLOSES OUT IMPRESSIVE TWO WEEKS AT THE PLATE Few Red Raiders were hotter at the plate to start the month of March than Sydnie Tapia. The sophomore hit .531 during her career-best 12 game hitting streak that ran from March 1-16. It marked the second-longest hitting streak for a Red Raider this season, falling just one game shy of Sydni Emanuel’s run from earlier this year. Tapia connected on three of her four home runs this season during that stretch while also driving in 12 RBI. She posted five multiple-hit games during the streak which ended against San Diego State. The Arlington, Texas native also had three multiple-RBI games, including a three RBI performance against Abilene Christian on March 9 which matched her career high. FRESHMEN CONTINUE TO DELIVER MIDWAY THROUGH FIRST SEASON Prior to the season, Texas Tech head coach Shanon Hays knew he would have to rely on his 11 freshmen to boost the Red Raider throughout the offense. Through 42 games, the freshmen have delivered with Sydni Emanuel, Cassie McClure and Kierra Miles all hitting above .300 while combining for 76 of Tech’s 197 RBI. The freshman class has totaled 14 home runs as well in their first experience to Division-I pitching. Hays has turned to eight different freshmen in his starting lineup entering this weekend. JUNIOR COLLEGE TRANSFERS PAYING OFF FOR RED RAIDERS Since Shanon Hays’ arrival at Texas Tech in 2010, the Red Raiders have found success with junior college players, recruiting the likes of Logan Hall, Adriana Perez, Raven Richardson among others. Through 42 games, Tech’s current class of junior college transfers have boosted the Red Raiders both offensively and defensively with Lea Hopson at second base, Kristi Belshe in left field and Kady Crow appearing behind the plate. Hopson, a College of Southern Idaho transfer, is among the Big 12 leaders with six home runs this season while hitting .287 with 25 RBI. Belshe, meanwhile, leads Tech with seven multiple-RBI games this year en route to hitting .292 with 21 RBI. Crow’s impact has been felt most defensively as she has started behind the plate 14 times already this season. Belshe and Hopson arrived at Tech after earning NJCAA All-American honors in 2013. HAYS BECOMES LONGEST TENURED COACH IN PROGRAM HISTORY Already the winningest coach in program history, Texas Tech skipper Shanon Hays added another career achievement to his resume during the Red Raiders’ trip to California. The fifth-year head coach passed Renee Luers-Gillespie as the longest tenured Tech coach all-time. Hays passed Gillespie’s previous mark of 255 games from the 1996-2000 seasons as he has now led the Red Raiders in 261 contests entering this weekend. Hays previously passed Bobby Reeves’ 235 games coached earlier this season to move into sole possession of second place. 2014 TEXAS TECH SOFTBALL WELBORN MAKES TRANSITION TO BEHIND THE PLATE Susan Welborn was mainly a pitcher or first baseman throughout her high school career at Birdville High School in the Dallas area. Already this year, the freshman has transitioned to the outfield, starting three games in either left or right field. Welborn moved behind the plate for the first time in her career on Feb. 28 as she was Texas Tech’s starting catcher against Rhode Island. She earned the start behind the plate again the following day against Sam Houston State. It was the first time Welborn had ever appeared at catcher in high school or travel ball. Welborn, who threw out the only runner that attempted to steal last weekend, gives Tech additional depth behind the plate with fellow freshman Brittany Lee and sophomore Kady Crow. FULTZ DELIVERS IN FIRST CAREER START Ashley Fultz made the most of her first career start on Feb. 28 as the freshman belted a key three-run homer against Rhode Island in Texas Tech’s 5-0 victory over the Rams. It was the first career home run for Fultz, who has five RBI already this season as Texas Tech’s usual top pinch hitting candidate. Fultz is one of four Red Raider freshmen to homer already this season, joining Cassie McClure, Kierra Miles and Sydni Emanuel. AUCOIN RECORDS DOMINATING PERFORMANCE IN ARLINGTON Gretchen’s Aucoin 2-1 record in the UTA Hilton Invitational really doesn’t show how dominate the sophomore was in the circle. Aucoin appeared in four of Texas Tech’s five games on the weekend, tossing 19.0 total innings where she allowed just one earned run while striking out 26 hitters. In the Saturday doubleheader against Illinois and Creighton, Aucoin combined for 10.0 innings, surrendering just two unearned runs off three hits. She started off the day with eight strikeouts in four innings of relief to pick up the extra-innings win over Illinois. She followed up by returning to the circle 30 minutes later to match her career high with nine strikeouts in a 1-0 loss to Creighton. Aucoin enters this weekend as the Big 12 leader with a 0.76 ERA as she has allowed just four earned runs in 36.2 innings this season. TALLEY NAMED BIG 12 PITCHER OF THE WEEK AFTER DOMINATING OPENING WEEKEND Texas Tech senior left-hander Brittany Talley was named the Big 12 Conference Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 11 after her dominating performance at the Lions Classic. Talley powered Tech to its first win of the season with a two-hit, complete game shutout of Nicholls State on Friday night and then followed up by tossing 4.1 shutout innings two days later against Texas Southern. The Little Elm, Texas native was the only Big 12 pitcher with at least 10 innings pitched to not allow a single run, earned or unearned, last weekend. Talley also matched her career high with seven strikeouts against Nicholls State before finishing the weekend with 11 while holding opponents to just a .154 batting average. #6THIS With almost a brand new roster and a slew of freshmen, it was quite understandable when Texas Tech was predicted to finish sixth in the Big 12 preseason poll. Well, it was understandable for everyone outside the Red Raider dugout as Tech quickly adopted the motto “6This” for the 2014 season. The motto should be a driving force for the Red Raiders, who after finishing 30-26 in 2013, will be looking to return to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in the past five seasons. RED RAIDERS BOAST LARGEST FRESHMEN CLASS IN SCHOOL HISTORY In order to get back to the postseason, Texas Tech head coach Shanon Hays will have to rely on the largest freshmen class in school history. The 11-member freshmen class breaks the previous school record of eight freshmen from both the 2004 and 2010 seasons. It is also the largest freshmen class in the Big 12 this season as Tech has four more freshmen then Texas and five more than Baylor, Kansas and Oklahoma State. The group will be expected to not just fill a few roles but make an impact early as Tech tries to replace all three positions in the outfield along with holes at first base and catcher as well. Iowa State 82 HAYS AND OLD FRIEND REUNITE Texas Tech head coach Shanon Hays will have a longtime friend along his side throughout the 2014 season as Greg “Emo” Evans joined the staff this past summer as an assistant coach. Evans, who previously spent nine seasons as the associate head baseball coach at Oklahoma State, will be responsible primarily for the Tech infield which, after setting the school record for fewest errors in 2012, struggled through portions of last season. Considered one of the top infield coaches nationally, Evans helped produce several of the top defenses in the country during his 25 seasons as a collegiate baseball coach. He will look to do the same in his first stint in softball as he inherits an infield scattered with freshmen but also with a pair of returnees in Samantha Camello and Sydnie Tapia. The Boyle, Miss. native coached Shanon Hays when he was first started his collegiate career as an assistant at Lubbock Christian. He would later move crosstown to Tech where he spent a total of nine seasons under longtime baseball coach Larry Hays, father of Shanon Hays. The Red Raiders experienced their most success in program history during that time with seven 40-win seasons and six trips to the NCAA Tournament. CAMELLO RETURNS UP THE MIDDLE AFTER STELLAR FRESHMAN SEASON Following an impressive debut in 2013, Samantha Camello will be looking for more of the same this season after hitting .311 while starting in all 56 games a year ago. The Temecula, Calif. native became only the sixth starting freshmen in school history to hit over .300 in her rookie campaign, joining the likes of Mikey Kenney (2010), Stephanie Drewry (2009), Ashley Parker (2004), Sandy Butler (1998) and Paula Workman (1997). Camello, who split time between shortstop and second base as a freshman, led a powerful Tech offense during Big 12 play with a .275 average while playing in one of the nation’s top pitching conferences. She will likely be Texas Tech’s opening day shortstop for the second-straight season.

RED RAIDERS TO BE POWERED IN THE CIRCLE Texas Tech associate head coach Aly Sartini will have possibly the deepest and most experienced pitching staff of her tenure this season as the Red Raiders return a pair of veterans in senior Brittany Talley and junior Cara Custer along with experienced sophomore Gretchen Aucoin. The staff will get an added boost, though, from the emergence of junior Chandler Moore, who, according to Sartini, had the best fall of her collegiate career. The four returners represent 94 percent of Tech’s total innings from 2013 and 29 of the 30 victories from a year ago as well. They will be joined in the circle by freshman Cassie McClure, the reigning Texas 4A-5A Player of the Year, and redshirt freshman Mattison Maisel. TEXAS TECH SET FOR 24 GAMES AT ROCKY JOHNSON FIELD Texas Tech fans will have plenty of opportunities to catch the Red Raiders at Rocky Johnson Field this year with 24 home games set for the 2014 season. After three weekends on the road to start the season, Tech opens its home slate Feb. 28 with a doubleheader against Sam Houston State and Rhode Island as part of the Texas Tech Invitational, the first of two home tournaments for the Red Raiders. Tech will also host the fourth- annual Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic on March 7-9, bringing in the likes of UT Arlington, Northern Colorado, Abilene Christian and New Mexico State. Following a nearly weeklong trip to Southern California, Tech closes its non-conference slate with a March 19 doubleheader against North Texas and a three-game set with Texas State. The two series begin an eight-game homestand for the Red Raiders, who will open Big 12 Conference play March 28 at home against Baylor. Tech will also host home series with Oklahoma State and Iowa State. RED RAIDERS ADD PAIR OF NJCAA ALL-AMERICANS IN BELSHE, HOPSON Similar to years past, Texas Tech once again turned to the junior college level during the offseason to fill needs around the diamond, bringing in four transfers including two NJCAA All-Americans in Lea Hopson and Kristi Belshe. Hopson, who starred the past two seasons at College of Southern Idaho, was among the top junior college hitters around the country as she hit .431 in 2013 with 12 home runs and 46 RBI. Belshe, meanwhile, led the NJCAA with a .590 batting average in 2013 while playing for Lake Land College in Illinois. Belshe was also the national leader in hits (111) and on-base percentage as well (.645) while also ranking third in doubles (26), runs scored (94) and slugging percentage (1.005). The only two four-year seniors on the Tech roster, Brittany Talley and Taylor Powell are scheduled to receive their degrees this spring with Talley earning hers in chemical engineering while Powell will graduate as an animal sciences major. While highly successful on the diamond, the pair also sport two of the highest grade-point averages on the team. Talley, a native of Little Elm, Texas, enters this semester with a 3.8 GPA and has already accepted a position with Oxy, an international oil company. Powell, meanwhile, has registered a perfect 4.0 GPA entering her final semester and will look to attend veterinarian school following graduation. RED RAIDERS PICKED SIXTH IN BIG 12 PRESEASON POLL Texas Tech was selected to finish sixth in the Big 12 Preseason Poll that was voted upon by the conference coaches. The Red Raiders, who finished 30-26 a year ago, have ended the season ranked higher in the conference standings than their preseason selection twice under fifth-year head coach Shanon Hays.
