RED RAIDERS HEAD TO AUSTIN FOR FIRST BIG 12 ROAD SERIES Texas Tech heads to the road for the first time in Big 12 Conference play this weekend as the Red Raiders travel to the state capital of Austin for a three-game series with the Texas Longhorns at McCombs Field. The series begins with a 4:30 p.m. first pitch Friday afternoon and continues at 4 p.m. and 12 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The entire series will air on the Longhorn Network with Alex Loeb on the call and Amanda Scarborough as the analyst. This will only be Tech’s second road trip since the start of March as the Red Raiders are 2-2 this season in true road contests.

ON THE HORIZON The Red Raiders return to Rocky Johnson Field next weekend to begin a three-game series with Oklahoma State. The series begins at 7 p.m. on April 11 at Rocky Johnson Field. TEXAS ALL-TIME SERIES Texas Tech will look to break an eight-game losing streak to Texas in games played in Austin during Friday’s series opener. The Longhorns swept the Red Raiders last year in Lubbock to improve to 30-6 all-time against Tech. The Red Raiders are just 2-12 in games played in the state capital as Tech has not won in Austin since pulling off a 5-4 victory on March 27, 2008. Tech has only won the series once previously against Texas which came in 2000 when the two schools split the two regular season contests and then the Red Raiders took an 8-4 victory in the Big 12 Tournament. Big 12 series did not move to three games until the 2012 season. YOUNG RED RAIDERS MAKING FIRST TRIP TO AUSTIN For most of Texas Tech’s young roster, this will be their first Big 12 road trip. The Red Raiders enter this weekend’s series with only three players who were in the Tech dugout the last time Tech made the trip to the state capital - seniors Brittany Talley and Taylor Powell and junior Cara Custer. The three players were the only current Red Raider regulars on the roster when Tech last topped Texas on the softball diamond which came on April 11, 2012, with a 5-2 victory in Lubbock. Custer tossed a complete-game gem in the victory, allowing Texas to just four hits while striking out four en route to her team-leading 19th victory of the season. EMANUEL ALREADY NEARING TECH STOLEN BASE RECORD Sydni Emanuel could possibly break the Texas Tech single-season stolen base record early in Big 12 play as the Texas Tech freshman has totaled a conference-leading 29 heading into this weekend’s series in Austin. Emanuel, who missed the entire Texas State series, is five stolen bases shy of Ashley Parker’s school from the 2006 season. The Missouri City, Texas native already ranks second in school history with as she is one of just three Red Raiders all-time to total 20 stolen bases in season, joining both Parker and Sandy Butler. Emanuel is the Big 12 leader in the category and ranks ninth nationally in stolen bases per game entering this week.

TECH APPROACHING STOLEN BASE AND TRIPLES RECORDS Prior to this season, Texas Tech head coach said his team would be different than years past as the Red Raiders would have speed across the diamond. Through 39 games, his preseason statement could not be more true as the Red Raiders are closing on both the Tech single-season record for stolen bases and triples. Backed by a Big 12-leading 39 stolen bases from freshman Sydni Emanuel, Tech needs just nine more stolen bases as a team to match the school record of 81 from the 2001 season. Emanuel is five stolen bases from tying the individual record herself which was set by Ashley Parker in 2006. Eight different Red Raiders, meanwhile, have recorded a triple this year, giving Tech 16 already this year which is one shy of the school record from 1997. The Red Raiders lead the Big 12 in both categories this season and rank among the top-20 teams nationally in both categories as well. The level of success Tech has achieved under fifth-year head coach Shanon Hays has been impressive as the Red Raiders are one of just three Big 12 programs to record at least 30 wins in each of the past four seasons, joining both Oklahoma and Texas. Hays, who inherited a 15-42 team a year prior to his arrival, could become just the third Big 12 coach all-time to win at least 30 games in each of the first five seasons at a respective school. He would join the likes of Patty Gasso (Oklahoma) and Glenn Moore (Baylor) as the only coaches to do so in the conference’s existence. Iowa State 0 17-15 AUCOIN REMAINS AMONG BIG 12 LEADERS IN ERA Despite picking up a pair of losses last weekend to No. 12 Baylor, Gretchen Aucoin continues to rank among the Big 12 leaders in ERA as the sophomore is 8-5 on the season with a 1.61 ERA. Four of Aucoin’s five losses this season have come when the right-hander has allowed two or less runs. She enters this weekend ranked fifth in the Big 12 in ERA while also ranking among the conference leaders in most other pitching categories as well. Aucoin struck out a career-high 13 hitters against the North Texas on March 19 as she is averaging an impressive 8.29 per game this year. The Ocean Springs, Miss. native became the Tech single-season and career leaders in save the following weekend against Texas State as she closed out her fifth game of the season which is tied for the NCAA lead entering this week.

2014 TEXAS TECH SOFTBALL NEWS & NOTES FROM AROUND THE DIAMOND • The Red Raiders head into Friday’s series opener looking to snap a season-best three game losing streak. Texas Tech had previously lost three straight only one other time this year which came March 15-16 during the San Diego State Classic. • Texas Tech dropped one spot in this week’s ratings percentage index (RPI) poll that is widely used to determine NCAA Regional selections. The Red Raiders, who are No. 58 this week in the rankings, are one of six Big 12 programs ranked among the top 60 teams nationally. • Texas Tech enters this weekend tied for the second-most wins among Big 12 programs. Kansas has one more win than the Red Raiders as the Jayhawks are 28-10 entering their weekend series with Oklahoma. • Texas Tech’s 27-12 record entering this weekend ranks 40th nationally in win-loss percentage. • The Red Raider pitching staff will be facing the Big 12’s top offense this weekend as Texas enters the series leading the conference with a .349 batting average. • Texas Tech does appear to have an edge in the circle as the Red Raiders are fourth in the Big 12 with a 2.47 ERA while Texas ranks sixth with a 2.79 ERA entering this weekend. • Texas is 5-2 against common non-conference opponents with the Red Raiders as the Longhorns fell to both UNLV and Long Beach State. The Red Raiders went 1-1 in those two games, defeating UNLV at the Titans Classic before falling to Long Beach State a few days later at the San Diego State Classic. • The Red Raiders were ranked 16th nationally entering this week in stolen bases per game and third for triples per game. Texas Tech is closing in on the single-season school records for both categories. • Texas Tech is 2-2 in true road contests this year with wins over UT Arlington and Cal State Fullerton. • The Red Raiders are averaging nearly seven runs per game in true road contests this season as Texas Tech is hitting .339 as a team with four home runs and 26 RBI. • The Big 12 is one of two conferences nationally in which every team has an overall record that is .500 or better. NEWS & NOTES - INDIVIDUALS • Despite missing the entire Texas State series, Sydni Emanuel still leads the Big 12 with 29 stolen bases and 37 runs scored. The freshman also ranks second with three triples, fourth with 49 hits, sixth with a .485 on-base percentage and seventh with 66 total bases. • Emanuel enters this weekend ranked ninth nationally, averaging an impressive 0.81 stolen bases per game. She is also 29th in the country for triples and 39th for runs per game. • Emanuel and teammate Lea Hopson have led the Red Raiders in road games this year as both players are hitting .500 or better in Texas Tech’s four contests this year on its opponent’s home field. • Hopson is also among the Big 12 leaders as the junior ranks fourth with 19 stolen bases, eight in home runs and ninth in with a .623 slugging percentage. • With one more stolen base from Hopson, she and Emanuel will be the first set of teammates in school history to record 20 stolen bases in a season. The only two players in program history to reach the 20 stolen base mark previously were Ashley Parker (2006-07) and Sandy Butler (1998, 2000-01). • Emanuel and Hopson are both one triple shy of the Texas Tech single-season school record that belongs to Leah Legler (2008, Denise Jackson (1997-98) and Kim Martinez (1997). • Emanuel needs to come across to score seven more times to already enter the top-10 in single season school history as the freshman has accounted for 37 of Texas Tech’s runs so far. • Hopson has already been plunked 12 times this season which currently ranks third in single-season history. Robyn Wike set the school record in 2007 when she was hit 16 times. • Gretchen Aucoin heads into this weekend’s series tied for the NCAA lead with five saves. She shares the national lead with Emily Vincent of McNeese State and Shea Morris of Tennessee State. • Aucoin has fanned a team-high 103 batters this season, leaving her just 21 shy of entering the top 10 in Texas Tech single-season history. • Cassie McClure leads the Red Raiders with 30 RBI this season which ranks sixth currently in the Big 12. She needs 13 more to match Raven Richardson for 10th all-time in Tech single-season history. • McClure is the first Red Raider to record at least 30 RBI in a season since Mikey Kenney recorded 40 in 2010. Kenney went on to be the Texas Tech career leader with 149 during her career from 2010-13. • Kierra Miles is also approaching the 30 RBI mark as she has 26 entering this weekend’s series with Texas. • The middle of Texas Tech’s infield consisting of Lea Hopson and Samantha Camello are the only two Red Raiders to start in all 39 games this season. Camello leads all players as she has started in 92-straight contests heading into this weekend. • Brittany Talley has continued to be among the more efficient pitchers in the country this year as the senior left-hander ranks 4th nationally in walks per seven innings entering this weekend. Talley is also on pace to finish second all-time at Texas Tech as she has issued just 1.59 walks per seven innings throughout her career. • Talley is currently on pace to finish second all-time at Texas Tech with a 2.51 career ERA. The senior is also among the top 10 in nearly every other career pitching category as well. • Talley and Aucoin are looking to become just the second pair of teammates to record ERAs under 2.00 this season, joining Amanda Renfro and Emily Hayes who did so in 1998. Hayes and Enfro are the only pitchers in school history to finish with an ERA under 2.00 in a single season. • Cara Custer picked up two wins in the Texas State series, giving her 10 now on the season which ranks sixth currently in the Big 12. It is the third-straight season where Custer has recorded at least 10 wins. • Custer is just two victories shy of matching Ashly Jacobs for second all-time in program history in wins as the junior has recorded 49 in just over two seasons. Jacobs totaled 51 wins during her Tech career which spanned the 2007-10 seasons. AUCOIN HONORED AS BIG 12 PITCHER OF THE WEEK Texas Tech sophomore Gretchen Aucoin became the third Red Raider to receive a conference weekly award on March 25 as she was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week after her dominating performance against both North Texas and Texas State. Aucoin went 1-0 with a 0.93 ERA in 15.0 innings last week where she surrendered just two runs while striking out an impressive 26 hitters during that span. The Ocean Springs, Miss. native opened the week with her third complete game of the season as she allowed just one run off six hits while striking out a career-high 13 hitters against North Texas. Her 13 strikeouts marked the most for a Tech pitcher since Amanda Renfro fanned a school record 15 hitters twice during the 2001 season. Aucoin came on in relief to records saves in both series finales, giving her an NCAA-leading five now on the season. Her save against Texas State snapped both the Tech single-season and career records.

RED RAIDERS TURNING INTO OWN VERSION OF CARDIAC KIDS Texas Tech’s ability to bounce back from early deficits could not have been more apparent in series wins over both North Texas and Texas State. The Red Raiders trailed in four of their five games before rallying in dramatic fashion to improve to 27-9 on the season. Lea Hopson kick started Tech’s stretch of rallies with a solo home run in the sixth inning that propelled the Red Raiders to a 5-4 victory over North Texas in the doubleheader finale. Tech was forced to rally again in its series opener with Texas State as the Red Raiders won off a bases-loaded walk to Kristi Belshe in the bottom of the seventh. Gretchen Aucoin wrapped the successful week with a fifth-inning grand slam, the first of her career, that helped the Red Raiders overcome a 3-1 deficit in the series finale. Tech has won a total of six games this year when trailing or tied after four innings.

AUCOIN SNAPS SINGLE-SEASON, CAREER RECORDS FOR SAVES With her two innings of relief in the series finale against Texas State, Gretchen Aucoin became the Texas Tech single-season and career leader in saves. Aucoin has recorded five saves already this season, breaking Erin Crawford’s previous school record of four from the 2006 season. Crawford was also one of four Red Raiders to previously hold the career mark with six saves as well, joining the likes of Amanda Renfro (1998-01), Julie Hauck (2004-06) and Cara Custer (2012-present). Aucoin needs three more saves this year to match Lisa Ferguson’s Big 12 single-season record of eight from the 2004 season as she currently ranks tied for third in single-season history. Ferguson is also the conference career leader with 19 saves for Baylor during the 2004-07 seasons. Aucoin is just one save shy of entering the top 10 all-time among conference career leaders. EMANUEL NAMED BIG 12 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Sydni Emanuel was named the Big 12 Player of the Week on March 18 after hitting .565 (13-for-23) at the Titans Classic and San Diego State Classic (does not include Harvard game). She is just the second Red Raider freshman to ever garner a conference weekly award, joining Amanda Renfro, who was honored as the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week twice in 1998. Emanuel finished with two or more hits in four of six games, including a 4-for-4 performance in the Titans Classic finale against host Cal State Fullerton last Friday. The Missouri City, Texas native totaled a .583 on-base percentage and frustrated opponents on the base paths from there, stealing nine bases to bump her season total to a conference-leading 28 already this season. Emanuel stole at least one base in all six games, including two in three-consecutive games against UNLV, Fullerton and Long Beach State. TALLEY MATCHES BEST START TO A SEASON SINCE 2011 Brittany Talley matched her best start to a season at the Titans Classic as the southpaw improved to 8-0 on the year with her victory over host Cal State Fullerton. The undefeated record matched Talley’s previous best start to a season from 2011 when she opened her collegiate career 8-0 as well. Talley ended 2011 with a 14-7 overall record which marked her most wins in a season so far in her career. Talley’s undefeated run came to an end on March 17 with a 6-0 loss to Harvard where she allowed only one earned run over the first four innings. Her 1.73 earned-run average ranks sixth in the Big 12 entering this weekend as she has allowed just 18 earned runs in 72.2 innings this year. TAPIA CLOSES OUT IMPRESSIVE TWO WEEKS AT THE PLATE Few Red Raiders were hotter at the plate to start the month of March than Sydnie Tapia. The sophomore hit .531 during her career-best 12 game hitting streak that ran from March 1-16. It marked the second-longest hitting streak for a Red Raider this season, falling just one game shy of Sydni Emanuel’s run from earlier this year. Tapia connected on three of her four home runs this season during that stretch while also driving in 12 RBI. She posted five multiple-hit games during the streak which ended against San Diego State. The Arlington, Texas native also had three multiple-RBI games, including a three RBI performance against Abilene Christian on March 9 which matched her career high. FRESHMEN CONTINUE TO DELIVER MIDWAY THROUGH FIRST SEASON Prior to the season, Texas Tech head coach Shanon Hays knew he would have to rely on his 11 freshmen to boost the Red Raider throughout the offense. Through 39 games, the freshmen have delivered with Sydni Emanuel, Cassie McClure and Kierra Miles all hitting above .300 while combining for 72 of Tech’s 189 RBI. The freshman class has totaled 14 home runs as well in their first experience to Division-I pitching. Hays has turned to eight different freshmen in his starting lineup entering this weekend. JUNIOR COLLEGE TRANSFERS PAYING OFF FOR RED RAIDERS Since Shanon Hays’ arrival at Texas Tech in 2010, the Red Raiders have found success with junior college players, recruiting the likes of Logan Hall, Adriana Perez, Raven Richardson among others. Through 39 games, Tech’s current class of junior college transfers have boosted the Red Raiders both offensively and defensively with Lea Hopson at second base, Kristi Belshe in left field and Kady Crow appearing behind the plate. Hopson, a College of Southern Idaho transfer, is among the Big 12 leaders with six home runs this season while hitting .311 with 25 RBI. Belshe, meanwhile, leads Tech with seven multiple-RBI games this year en route to hitting .300 with 21 RBI. Crow’s impact has been felt most defensively as she has started behind the plate 12 times already this season. Belshe and Hopson arrived at Tech after earning NJCAA All-American honors in 2013. HAYS BECOMES LONGEST TENURED COACH IN PROGRAM HISTORY Already the winningest coach in program history, Texas Tech skipper Shanon Hays added another career achievement to his resume during the Red Raiders’ trip to California. The fifth-year head coach passed Renee-Luers-Gillespie as the longest tenured Tech coach all-time. Hays passed Gillespie’s previous mark of 255 games from the 1996-2000 seasons as he has now led the Red Raiders in 261 contests entering this weekend. Hays previously passed Bobby Reeves’ 235 games coached earlier this season to move into sole possession of second place. Already this year, the freshman has transitioned to the outfield, starting three games in either left or right field. Welborn moved behind the plate for the first time in her career on Feb. 28 as she was Texas Tech’s starting catcher against Rhode Island. She earned the start behind the plate again the following day against Sam Houston State. It was the first time Welborn had ever appeared at catcher in high school or travel ball. Welborn, who threw out the only runner that attempted to steal last weekend, gives Tech additional depth behind the plate with fellow freshman Brittany Lee and sophomore Kady Crow. FULTZ DELIVERS IN FIRST CAREER START Ashley Fultz made the most of her first career start on Feb. 28 as the freshman belted a key three-run homer against Rhode Island in Texas Tech’s 5-0 victory over the Rams. It was the first career home run for Fultz, who has five RBI already this season as Texas Tech’s usual top pinch hitting candidate. Fultz is one of four Red Raider freshmen to homer already this season, joining Cassie McClure, Kierra Miles and Sydni Emanuel. AUCOIN RECORDS DOMINATING PERFORMANCE IN ARLINGTON Gretchen’s Aucoin 2-1 record in the UTA Hilton Invitational really doesn’t show how dominate the sophomore was in the circle. Aucoin appeared in four of Texas Tech’s five games on the weekend, tossing 19.0 total innings where she allowed just one earned run while striking out 26 hitters. In the Saturday doubleheader against Illinois and Creighton, Aucoin combined

She started off the day with eight strikeouts in four innings of relief to pick up the extra-innings win over Illinois. She followed up by returning to the circle 30 minutes later to match her career high with nine strikeouts in a 1-0 loss to Creighton. Aucoin enters this weekend as the Big 12 leader with a 0.76 ERA as she has allowed just four earned runs in 36.2 innings this season. TALLEY NAMED BIG 12 PITCHER OF THE WEEK AFTER DOMINATING OPENING WEEKEND Texas Tech senior left-hander Brittany Talley was named the Big 12 Conference Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 11 after her dominating performance at the Lions Classic. Talley powered Tech to its first win of the season with a two-hit, complete game shutout of Nicholls State on Friday night and then followed up by tossing 4.1 shutout innings two days later against Texas Southern. The Little Elm, Texas native was the only Big 12 pitcher with at least 10 innings pitched to not allow a single run, earned or unearned, last weekend. Talley also matched her career high with seven strikeouts against Nicholls State before finishing the weekend with 11 while holding opponents to just a .154 batting average. #6THIS With almost a brand new roster and a slew of freshmen, it was quite understandable when Texas Tech was predicted to finish sixth in the Big 12 preseason poll. Well, it was understandable for everyone outside the Red Raider dugout as Tech quickly adopted the motto “6This” for the 2014 season. The motto should be a driving force for the Red Raiders, who after finishing 30-26 in 2013, will be looking to return to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in the past five seasons. RED RAIDERS BOAST LARGEST FRESHMEN CLASS IN SCHOOL HISTORY In order to get back to the postseason, Texas Tech head coach Shanon Hays will have to rely on the largest freshmen class in school history. The 11-member freshmen class breaks the previous school record of eight freshmen from both the 2004 and 2010 seasons. It is also the largest freshmen class in the Big 12 this season as Tech has four more freshmen then Texas and five more than Baylor, Kansas and Oklahoma State. The group will be expected to not just fill a few roles but make an impact early as Tech tries to replace all three positions in the outfield along with holes at first base and catcher as well. Under the Lubbock native, the Red Raiders have flourished, winning 151 games in four seasons which already makes Hays the winningest coach in program history. Texas Tech’s success during this stretch has lifted the program from the bottom of the Big 12 Conference standings as the Red Raiders are tied with Baylor as the third-winningest school the past four seasons. Tech is one of just three conference teams to record four straight 30-win seasons, joining the likes of Oklahoma and Texas. Iowa State 82 HAYS AND OLD FRIEND REUNITE Texas Tech head coach Shanon Hays will have a longtime friend along his side throughout the 2014 season as Greg “Emo” Evans joined the staff this past summer as an assistant coach. Evans, who previously spent nine seasons as the associate head baseball coach at Oklahoma State, will be responsible primarily for the Tech infield which, after setting the school record for fewest errors in 2012, struggled through portions of last season. Considered one of the top infield coaches nationally, Evans helped produce several of the top defenses in the country during his 25 seasons as a collegiate baseball coach. He will look to do the same in his first stint in softball as he inherits an infield scattered with freshmen but also with a pair of returnees in Samantha Camello and Sydnie Tapia. The Boyle, Miss. native coached Shanon Hays when he was first started his collegiate career as an assistant at Lubbock Christian. He would later move crosstown to Tech where he spent a total of nine seasons under longtime baseball coach Larry Hays, father of Shanon Hays. The Red Raiders experienced their most success in program history during that time with seven 40-win seasons and six trips to the NCAA Tournament. EVANS ONE OF TWO NEW FACES IN THE TECH DUGOUT THIS SEASON Greg Evans isn’t the only new face in the Texas Tech dugout this season as former Mississippi Valley State assistant coach Brooke Reed joined the program this fall as the new director of operations. Evans and Reed complete a staff that includes head coach Shanon Hays, associate head coach Aly Sartini and volunteer assistant Holley Gentsch, who was promoted from a graduate assistant position into a coaching role this season. Sandy Wellman, formerly James, will replace Gentsch as the program’s graduate assistant after completing her eligibility a year ago. CAMELLO RETURNS UP THE MIDDLE AFTER STELLAR FRESHMAN SEASON Following an impressive debut in 2013, Samantha Camello will be looking for more of the same this season after hitting .311 while starting in all 56 games a year ago. The Temecula, Calif. native became only the sixth starting freshmen in school history to hit over .300 in her rookie campaign, joining the likes of Mikey Kenney (2010), Stephanie Drewry (2009), Ashley Parker (2004), Sandy Butler (1998) and Paula Workman (1997). Camello, who split time between shortstop and second base as a freshman, led a powerful Tech offense during Big 12 play with a .275 average while playing in one of the nation’s top pitching conferences. She will likely be Texas Tech’s opening day shortstop for the second-straight season. RED RAIDERS TO BE POWERED IN THE CIRCLE Texas Tech associate head coach Aly Sartini will have possibly the deepest and most experienced pitching staff of her tenure this season as the Red Raiders return a pair of veterans in senior Brittany Talley and junior Cara Custer along with experienced sophomore Gretchen Aucoin. The staff will get an added boost, though, from the emergence of junior Chandler Moore, who, according to Sartini, had the best fall of her collegiate career. The four returners represent 94 percent of Tech’s total innings from 2013 and 29 of the 30 victories from a year ago as well. They will be joined in the circle by freshman Cassie McClure, the reigning Texas 4A-5A Player of the Year, and redshirt freshman Mattison Maisel.

TEXAS TECH SET FOR 24 GAMES AT ROCKY JOHNSON FIELD Texas Tech fans will have plenty of opportunities to catch the Red Raiders at Rocky Johnson Field this year with 24 home games set for the 2014 season. After three weekends on the road to start the season, Tech opens its home slate Feb. 28 with a doubleheader against Sam Houston State and Rhode Island as part of the Texas Tech Invitational, the first of two home tournaments for the Red Raiders. Tech will also host the fourth- annual Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic on March 7-9, bringing in the likes of UT Arlington, Northern Colorado, Abilene Christian and New Mexico State. Following a nearly weeklong trip to Southern California, Tech closes its non-conference slate with a March 19 doubleheader against North Texas and a three-game set with Texas State. The two series begin an eight-game homestand for the Red Raiders, who will open Big 12 Conference play March 28 at home against Baylor. Tech will also host home series with Oklahoma State and Iowa State. RED RAIDERS ADD PAIR OF NJCAA ALL-AMERICANS IN BELSHE, HOPSON Similar to years past, Texas Tech once again turned to the junior college level during the offseason to fill needs around the diamond, bringing in four transfers including two NJCAA All-Americans in Lea Hopson and Kristi Belshe. Hopson, who starred the past two seasons at College of Southern Idaho, was among the top junior college hitters around the country as she hit .431 in 2013 with 12 home runs and 46 RBI. Belshe, meanwhile, led the NJCAA with a .590 batting average in 2013 while playing for Lake Land College in Illinois. Belshe was also the national leader in hits (111) and on-base percentage as well (.645) while also ranking third in doubles (26), runs scored (94) and slugging percentage (1.005). The only two four-year seniors on the Tech roster, Brittany Talley and Taylor Powell are scheduled to receive their degrees this spring with Talley earning hers in chemical engineering while Powell will graduate as an animal sciences major. While highly successful on the diamond, the pair also sport two of the highest grade-point averages on the team. Talley, a native of Little Elm, Texas, enters this semester with a 3.8 GPA and has already accepted a position with Oxy, an international oil company. Powell, meanwhile, has registered a perfect 4.0 GPA entering her final semester and will look to attend veterinarian school following graduation. RED RAIDERS PICKED SIXTH IN BIG 12 PRESEASON POLL Texas Tech was selected to finish sixth in the Big 12 Preseason Poll that was voted upon by the conference coaches. The Red Raiders, who finished 30-26 a year ago, have ended the season ranked higher in the conference standings than their preseason selection twice under fifth-year head coach Shanon Hays. Oklahoma, the reigning NCAA National Champion, was the unanimous pick to defend its title while Baylor, Texas, Kansas and Oklahoma State follow with Iowa State slated a spot behind the Red Raiders in seventh place.
