RED RAIDERS HOPE TO REBOUND IN FINAL TRIP TO COLUMBIA Texas Tech will be looking to rebound this weekend against a Missouri team that has won three of its last five games. The weekend excursion to Columbia will mark the final trip by the Red Raiders to Columbia as the Tigers will be leaving the Big 12 for the Southeastern Conference. Kickoff on Saturday afternoon has been set for 2:30 p.m. and will be televised on a regional basis on ABC. Red Raider fans across the state can tune into one of 39 affiliates of the Texas Tech Sports Network as Brian Jensen, John Harris and Chris Level will have the call live from Memorial Stadium.

Justin Blackmon and Josh Cooper each had more than 100 receiving yards. Weeden, 28, said the team isn’t listening to the chatter about their season. It was the Red Raiders’ most lopsided loss ever and the most points allowed in program history. Seth Doege completed 25 of 43 passes for a season-low 169 yards and an interception for Texas Tech (5-5, 2-5). The Cowboys dominated from the start, going up 21-0 in the first quarter. They ran at will and Weeden wasn’t pressured much. He was sacked just once. Stewart and Blackmon had two touchdowns each. Randle’s rushing scores went for 2, 1 and 10 yards, and he finished with 78 yards on 18 carries. Hershel Sims led the Cowboy with 109 yards on 13 carries. resh off an eight win season and a win over Northwestern in the TicketCity Bowl, Texas Tech head coach Tommy Tuberville begins his second season. In year one, Tuberville led the Red Raiders to an 8-5 record and became the first coach in school history to win a bowl game in his first season. Armed with a prolific offense and an improving defense, the Red Raiders secured their 11th consecutive bowl bid by ending the regular-season with back-to-back wins. Tuberville’s strong bowl history proved beneficial for the Red Raiders as he led them to a 45-38 win over Northwestern, which gave Tech its third consecutive win over a Big Ten foe. His successful debut led to a one-year contract extention that will keep him on the Tech sideline through the 2015 season. The excitement for Tuberville’s first season was historic as a new single-season school record for season tickets was established with sales peaking at 46,565. Along the way, Tech also set a new standard for home attendance as as an average of 57,107 fans attended the six home games at Jones A&T Stadium. Tuberville inherited a program (Jan. 10, 2010) that had been bowl eligible for a Big 12 record 16 consecutive seasons and won 29 games in the last three seasons. In 10 seasons at Auburn, Tuberville led the Tigers to 85 overall wins, which ranks fourth in school history. The Tigers also won 49 Southeastern Conference games, a number that is the fourth-best mark in the SEC. Tuberville led Auburn to seven straight bowl appearances, including New Year’s Day bowl games in four of those years. In 2007, Tuberville led Auburn to an 9-4 mark, including a 5-3 record in the Southeastern Conference with wins at No. 4 Florida and a record-setting sixth consecutive win over Alabama in the Iron Bowl. The Tigers concluded the season with an overtime victory over Clemson in the Chick-fil-A Bowl, marking the program’s fifth bowl victory in the last six seasons. For the second consecutive year, Tuberville was a finalist for the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year award for his efforts on and off the field. The 2006 season saw Tuberville direct the Tigers to their second season with at least 10 wins in the previous three years with an 11-2 record after a 17-14 victory over Nebraska in the AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic. One of three finalist for the inaugural Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year award, Tuberville’s 2006 squad was the only program in the country to defeat two teams ranked in the top five nationally - National Champion Florida and LSU. Coming off a perfect 13-0 season in 2004, expectations for Tommy Tuberville’s 2005 Auburn squad were modest after the Tigers lost four players to the first round of the NFL draft, including their entire starting backfield. But Auburn surprised many of the experts, finishing 9-3 and earning a share of its fifth Southeastern Conference Western Division title in six years. Auburn ended the regular season with back-to-back victories over Georgia and Alabama - two teams ranked at the time in the top 10 - setting a new school record in the process with 22 victories over a two year period. In 2004, Tuberville led Auburn to its best season ever as the Tigers won a school-record 13 games and captured the SEC Championship and the NOKIA Sugar Bowl title. Auburn won its first conference title since 1989 including its first outright championship since 1987. Auburn defeated five top 15 teams, becoming just the 10th NCAA Division I-A team to finish 13-0 or better. The Tigers earned their first ever berth in a Bowl Championship Series game and defeated VirginiaTech, 16-13 in the Sugar Bowl. For his efforts, Tuberville was named the AFCA, Associated Press, Paul “Bear” Bryant, FCA, SEC and Walter Camp Coach of the Year. The season before Tuberville’s arrival, Auburn finished with a dismal 3-8 overall record and a last place finish in the SEC Western Division. Tuberville guided the program back to the top of the league standings, leading Auburn to an SEC Championship, five Western Division titles including outright championships in 2000 and 2004 and co-championships in 2001, 2002 and 2005. Tuberville directed Auburn to eight consecutive bowl appearances, including five New Year’s Day bowl berths and three consecutive January 1 bowl games from 2005-07. In 2006, 11 players had graduated before the start of the season, and Auburn had 16 graduates on its 2007 AT&T Cotton Bowl roster. In 2005, 12 players graduated prior to the Capital One Bowl, while in 2004, nine players who had already earned their degrees played in the Nokia Sugar

Bowl. In 2003, linebacker Dontarrious Thomas, a three-time SEC Honor Roll selection, was one of eight Division I players named a National College Scholar-Athlete which awarded him a $18,000 postgraduate scholarship from the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame. While at Ole Miss from 1995-98, Tuberville posted a 25-20 record. Inheriting a Rebel program plagued by NCAA sanctions and probation, he guided Ole Miss to a winning record in his first season in 1995, despite having just 61 players on scholarship. He did not have a full compliment of scholarship players to work with in any of his four years at Ole Miss. By the time he had three recruiting classes under his belt, Tuberville led Ole Miss to an 8-4 mark and a victory in the inaugural Motor City Bowl in 1997. His efforts earned him Associated Press SEC Coach of the Year Honors and American Football Quarterly magazine selected him as runnerup for its Schutt Sports Coach of the Year honor. Prior to becoming head coach at Ole Miss, Tuberville served as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Texas A&M for one season. In 1994, he helped lead the Aggies to a 10-0-1 record and No. 8 final ranking by the Associated Press. Under his direction, the Aggie defense finished fourth nationally in scoring defense (13.1 ppg), fifth in total defense (265.5 ypg) and sixth in rushing defense (92.4 ypg). Tuberville served as a member of the University of Miami staff for eight seasons from 1986-93, taking over as defensive coordinator in 1993. While serving on the staffs of Jimmy Johnson and Dennis Erickson at Miami, Tuberville was a defensive coach on teams which won three national championships, posted an 87-9 record and played in nine consecutive New Year’s Day bowls. As defensive coordinator for the Hurricanes in 1993, Tuberville directed a Miami defense which was ranked No. 3 nationally in scoring defense (12.6 ppg) and No. 5 nationally in pass defense (91.15 ypg). Tuberville began his collegiate coaching career at Arkansas State in 1980, coaching various segments of the Indians’ defense over the next five seasons. During a five-year stay at Arkansas State, Tuberville coached defensive backs, nose guards and linebackers. During his final year at ASU, the Indians advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs. He began his coaching career at Hermitage (Ark.) High School where he spent two years as an assistant and two as a head coach. After three straight four-win seasons, Tuberville guided HHS to a 7-3 mark in 1979 before moving to Arkansas State. A 1976 graduate of Southern Arkansas University, Tuberville was a letterman at free safety and a two-year member of the golf team at SAU. He is a 1972 graduate of Harmony Grove High School in Camden, Ark. Tuberville is married to the former Suzanne Fette of Guilford, Ind. They are the parents of two sons, Thomas Tucker and Troy Allen. DESTINATION: POSTSEASON Texas Tech can take a major step toward claiming its 12th consecutive bowl invitation on Saturday on the road against Missouri. A win over the Tigers would make the Red Raiders bowl eligible for a Big 12 record 19th consecutive season. The Red Raiders have won their last two bowl games as they posted a 41-31 win over Michigan State in the 2009 Alamo Bowl and a 45-38 victory over Northwestern in last year’s TicketCity Bowl. TIME TO SNAP THE STREAK Texas Tech will be looking to snap a three-game losing streak on Saturday afternoon in Columbia. The Red Raiders will be looking to avoid a four-game losing skid which would mark the first for the program since losing five consecutive games in 1993. His 12 field goals are the most by a Red Raider during the first nine games of the season in over 11 years. Texas Tech’s 41-38 win over No. 3/1 Oklahoma on Saturday night snapped the Sooners’ NCAA leading 39-game home win streak. Tech’s win also snaps Oklahoma’s 11-game win streak that dated back to the 2010 season. The Red Raiders picked up their first win in Norman since 1996 and now hold a 4-3 advantage over the Sooners since 2005. WAS GLASGOW THE KEY? First-year defensive coordinator Chad Glasgow played a big role in Texas Tech’s upset win over Oklahoma that snapped the Sooners’ 39-game home win streak. Glasgow was also part of the last team (TCU) to defeat the Sooners in Norman as he was on the Horned Frog coaching staff in 2005. Interestingly enough, the only three teams to defeat Bob Stoops’ Sooners at Owen Field all ran 4-2-5 defenses (Oklahoma State in 2002, TCU in 2005 and Texas Tech in 2011). In Saturday’s win over OU, the Texas Tech defense forced a potent Sooner offense into six consecutive three-and-outs. TECH HITS 1,000 RUSHING YARDS Texas Tech’s ground game has been vital to the Red Raiders’ offensive success in 2011. Through nine games, Tech has amassed 1,218 yards rushing and is averaging 135.3 yardsper-game. It took the Red Raiders only seven games to hit the 1,000 rushing yard mark which is the quickest in over 11 years. It took the 2008 team, one of the best rushing teams at Tech in several years, eight games to reach the 1,000 yard mark. DOEGE NAMED WALTER CAMP NATIONAL POW Junior quarterback Seth Doege picked up his second national honor of the season as he was named the Walter Camp National Offensive Player of the Week for his role in Texas Tech’s upset win at Oklahoma. Against the Sooners, Doege threw for 441 yards and four touchdowns while also rushing for one TD. So far, Texas Tech has converted on 41-of-45 red zone attempts and scored a touchdown 34 times. CRAWFORD SHOULDERS THE LOAD After losing Eric Stephens (the team’s leading rusher) for the season due to a knee injury, senior running back Aaron Crawford answered the call against Kansas State. Crawford rushed for a career-high 91 yards and hauled in four passes for 33 yards. The highlight of the night for Crawford was a 51-yard touchdown run which marked the longest rush of the season by any Texas Tech player. Prior to the K-State game, Seth Doege had the longest rush of the year when he scampered 48 yards against New Mexico. DEES/SMITH POST BIG GAMES AGAINST KSU Against K-State, the Texas Tech defense was led by two of its most inexperienced players. True freshman Blake Dees, who made his fifth start of the season, led the team with nine tackles, including one tackle for loss. Senior defensive end Scott Smith, who had played in just fives games previously, logged five tackles on the night, including a sack and a tackle for loss. Smith was also credited with one pass breakup. CARONA HAS CAREER NIGHT Senior placekicker Donnie Carona enjoyed a career night against the Aggies as he booted four field goals, including a pair from 49 yards out. Carona’s four field goals matched the single-game school record that had been done nine previous times. Chris Birkholz was the last Red Raider kicker to hit four field goals in a game when he did so against Texas in 1998. COMEBACK KIDS The Red Raiders have established themselves as a team that won’t quit. Kansas jumped out to a commanding 20-0 in the first quarter, marking the most points given up by Tech in the first period of a game since Oklahoma scored 24 last season in Norman. After spotting the Jayhawks an early 20-0 lead, the Red Raiders outscored Kansas 45-14 the rest of the way to take a 45-34 win. The comeback was the biggest for Texas Tech since overcoming a 28-0 deficit against Minnesota in the 2006 Insight Bowl. In that game, Tech rallied for a 44-41 win in overtime and it marked the largest comeback in NCAA bowl history. Additionally, the game marked Tech’s first 20 or more point comeback victory on the road since trailing 30-5 with 48 seconds before halftime against Kansas in Lawrence on Sept. 25, 2004. Texas Tech won that contest 31-30, which was also the Big 12 opener for both teams. TOUGH AS NAILS Senior center Justin Keown wasn’t about to let a preseason knee injury force him to miss his final year of college football. Despite tearing his ACL/MCL in preseason camp, Keown returned to action in the Nevada game where he logged just over 50 snaps. At Kansas on Oct. 1, he got his old job back as he made the start at center and logged all 86 snaps of Texas Tech’s come-from-behind 45-34 win over the Jayhawks. HUGE DAY FOR HUBERT Sophomore linebacker Cqulin Hubert was Texas Tech’s nominee for Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week after a stellar performance at Kansas. With Tech trailing 20-0 after the first quarter, Hubert and Daniel Cobb replaced true freshmen Blake Dees and Sam Eguavoen at linebacker. That personnel decision turned out to be the best of the day for Tech defensive coordinator Chad Glasgow. In just three quarters, Hubert racked up nine tackles (third most on the team), one sack, two tackles for loss, a forced fumble and an interception. He became just the seventh Texas Tech player since 2000 to record a sack and an INT in the same game... Last to do it: Scott Smith, vs. #4 Texas (2010).

WELL, THAT WAS CLOSE ... Texas Tech’s 35-34 win over Nevada was not settled until the final minute of the game when Seth Doege found Eric Ward in the corner of the endzone for a 4-yard TD pass that tied the game at 34-34. Donnie Carona’s extra point gave the Red Raiders the lead and a crucial defensive stop in the final seconds sealed the win. The last time Tech went down to the final minute to win a game was when Graham Harrell threw a 28-yard TD pass to Michael Crabtree (with three seconds left) against Texas in 2008. A TECH QUARTERBACK CAN RUN?!?!? Seth Doege proved against Nevada that it is indeed possible for a Texas Tech quarterback to be an effective runner. Doege piled up 83 yards rushing against the Wolfpack which is the highest total for a Tech QB since Zebbie Lethridge ran for 88 yards against Southwestern Louisiana in 1997. • His 48-yard run against Nevada marked the longest by a Texas Tech QB since Rob Peters’ 55-yard run in the 1999 season opener at Arizona State. McROY SETS KICKOFF RETURN RECORD Sophomore Ben McRoy was instrumental in Texas Tech’s 3534 come-from-behind win over Nevada. Against the Wolfpack, McRoy set a new Texas Tech school record for kickoff return yards as he compiled 203. The previous record was set by Eric Stephens at Texas in 2009 when he rang up 182 kickoff return yards against the Longhorns. McRoy also tied the school record for returns in a game (7) which was also set in that 2009 Texas game by Stephens. • McRoy saved his best return for last and it helped set up Texas Tech’s game winning touchdown. McRoy’s final return went for a game-high 41 yards and gave the Red Raiders the ball at their own 44-yard line. • Was named the Big 12 Conference Special Teams Player of the Week. TECH SETS NCAA TEAM RECORD AT UNM Texas Tech set a TEAM NCAA record for completion percentage in a game when the Red Raiders defeated New Mexico 59-17 on Sept. 17. Three Texas Tech players (Seth Doege, Jacob Karam and Austin Zouzalik) combined for 45 completions on 50 attempts for an eye-popping 90% completion rate. That rate surpasses a record previously set by South Carolina back in 1995. LONG DAY IN ALBUQUERQUE Texas Tech experienced one of longest games in school history at New Mexico on Sept. 17 thanks to Mother Nature. The game against the Lobos was forced into a lightning delay twice and even had officials from both schools contemplating a permanent suspension. The first delay came at 2:10 p.m. (MT) and lasted 51 minutes while the second delay occurred at the end of halftime and forced a 44-minute stoppage of play. By the time the final buzzer sounded, the game lasted a total of four hours and 46 minutes. Prior to the UNM game, the last time Texas Tech had a game delayed due to weather was in a 1998 home game against Missouri. The start of that game against Missouri was delayed by 38 minutes due to cloud-to-ground lightning. DOEGE ETCHES HIS NAME IN THE RECORD BOOK Junior quarterback Seth Doege, who grew up idolizing former Tech quarterback Kliff Kingsbury, put himself in elite company following Tech’s 59-13 win over New Mexico. Doege completed 40-of-44 pass attempts in the game to set a new NCAA record for completion percentage (90.9 percent) in a game. He surpassed his childhood idol Kliff Kingsbury who previously held the record after completing 49-of-59 passes in a victory over Texas A&M on Oct. 5, 2002. Additionally, Doege tied the school record for consecutive completions as he was perfect on his first 15 pass attempts of the game. Doege’s 15 consecutive pass completions ties a school record that was set last season by Taylor Potts in the

Cotton Bowl against Baylor. Of Doege’s 44 pass attempts, all four incompletions came in the endzone. He ended the game with 401 yards passing and five touchdowns. DEFENSE SPARKS TEXAS STATE WIN Trailing 10-9 heading into halftime against Texas State, Texas Tech turned to its defense to turn things around in the second half. The defensive unit forced and recovered four fumbles in the second half and converted all four into touchdown drives. The four fumble recoveries by the Red Raiders matched a school record that was set previously against TCU in 1993 and at Ohio State in 1990. MOORE EXPLODES IN SEASON OPENER Junior wide receiver Darrin Moore, who lost his father Darrin Moore Sr. just days before fall training camp, honored his father’s memory in a big way in Tech’s season opener against Texas State. Moore hauled in a career and game-high 221 receiving yards and one touchdown to help the Red Raiders defeat the Bobcats 50-10. The 221 receiving yards were the most by a Red Raider in a season opener and the most since former AllAmerican Michael Crabtree caught nine passes for 195 yards at Texas in 2007. Freshman receiver Bradley Marquez scored Tech’s first points of the season (10-yard TD catch) and was one of four true freshmen to see action on the Red Raider offense. Earning playing time tonight as true freshmen were: Blake Dees (started at MIKE linebacker), Bradley Marquez, DeAndre Washington, Jace Amaro, Pete Robertson, Alfredo Morales, Sam Eguavoen and Kindred Evans. FRESHMAN DEES GRADES OUT ON DEFENSE When all the film study was wrapped up on Tech’s seasonopening win against Texas State, it was freshman linebacker

2011 RED RAIDER FOOTBALL Blake Dees that stood out as the top performer on defense. Dees became the first true freshman to start at linebacker since Brock Stratton in 2003 and wasted no time taking advantage of the opportunity. Dees, a native of Spanish Fort, Ala., finished the night with seven tackles (second most behind DJ Johnson’s nine), a tackle for loss, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. DOEGE TAKES OVER

The keys to the Texas Tech offense now belong to junior quarterback Seth Doege. Doege enters the 2011 season with one previous start under his belt as he got the nod in a 2009 home game against Kansas (threw for 159 yards [14-of-28] and one touchdown). Back-to-back knee injuries forced him to miss his junior and senior seasons in high school, so the 2011 season will mark his first full year of play since 2005. Freshman runningback/receiver Bradley Marquez has signed a professional baseball contract with the New York Mets. Marquez will remain with the Tech football team in both the fall and spring and will play baseball for two months during the summer. The NCAA allows student-athletes to keep their amateur status in one sport despite being a professional in another. Marquez was drafted in the 16th round of the 2011 MLB Draft and received a signing bonus of $325,000. LARGE AND SMALL

The largest player on this year’s team as well as the smallest can both be found on the same side of the ball. LaAdrian Waddle, the starting left tackle, stands at 6-6 and weighs in at 332 pounds making him the largest player on this year’s squad. On the other side of the scale stands freshman receiver Jakeem Grant. Grant reported to training camp weighing 151 pounds and stands at 5-6. Grant is expected to contribute as a true freshman and also owns the distinction of being the fastest player on this year’s team. 16 CONSECUTIVE WINNING SEASONS

By winnings its final three games of the 2010 season, Texas Tech claimed a winning season for the 16th consecutive year. The Red Raiders’ 35-20 win over Houston ensured Tech of a winning season and the 45-38 win over Northwestern gave the Red Raiders a final record of 8-5. THIRD WINNINGEST PROGRAM OF CENTURY With 52 league wins since 2000, Texas Tech is the third winningest program in the Big 12 Conference this century. The Red Raiders trail only Oklahoma, Texas.

2011 RED RAIDER FOOTBALL WE CAN TAKE THE HEAT Much of the southwest has been under an extreme drought and heatwave for most of the summer and Lubbock is no exception. In fact, Lubbock was named the “Hottest City In America” by the online magazine The Daily Beast. At the time the article was released on July 20, Lubbock had experienced temperatures that were six degree warmer than average for the month of July. Lubbock recorded 43 consecutive days of temperatures over 100 degrees, including a high temperature of 112 in June. BEST SIGNING CLASS IN SCHOOL HISTORY Texas Tech signed 26 student-athletes on national signing day and this year’s group has been ranked as the 18th best recruiting class in the nation by Scout.com and No. 19 by Rivals.com. Prior to this signing day, the highest rated recruiting class in school history came back in 2006 when the Red Raiders earned a national No. 25 rating. Along with the No. 18/19 national ranking, comes an even bigger honor as Scout.com named Tech’s running backs class as the No. 1 group in the country (also a first in school history). OFFSEASON STAFF CHANGES Coaching staff changes were the first order of business for Texas Tech in the spring. On Jan. 21, head coach Tommy Tuberville announced the hiring of Chad Glasgow as defensive coordinator and Otis Mounds as cornerbacks coach. Glasgow replaced James Willis who left the program on Dec. 26, 2010, while Mounds replaced Travaris Robinson who left the program following the Ticket City Bowl. Glasgow spent the previous 10 years as an assistant under Gary Patterson at TCU and helped the Horned Frogs rank first in the nation in total defense five times in the last decade. LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) - Seth Doege threw for three touchdowns and 326 yards to lead Texas Tech to a 50-10 win over Texas State on Saturday night. The Red Raiders fell behind early but rallied and held the Bobcats scoreless after the first quarter. Doege, who played most of the game, went 23 for 33. He threw two touchdown passes for 20 yards and one for 10. Eric Stephens ran for two touchdowns - one a 46-yarder where he went untouched up the middle to put the Red Raiders up 23-10. He finished with 118 yards on 21 carries. Darrin Moore, Doege’s favorite target, caught 12 passes for 221 yards. The Bobcats (0-1) started off solid with an option-type ground game that gave Texas Tech’s defense fits. Three of the Bobcats’ four fumbles, by quarterback Shaun Rutherford and running backs Marcus Curry and Terrence Franks, led to touchdowns for the Red Raiders (0-1). Once Texas Tech’s offense got on track they moved easily down the field, mixing its pass-heavy offense with the run. The Red Raiders actually ran more than they passed but got more yards in the air. Texas Tech got 157 yards on 33 carries. The Red Raiders didn’t give up a lot of points but the Bobcats chewed up yardage on the ground. Rutherford, who had 82 yards on 12 carries and used Curry, Franks and Tim Hawkins out of the backfield, appeared to flummox the Red Raiders. Texas Tech gave up 256 yards on 50 rushes by the Bobcats. That’s more yardage than they gave up on the ground last season (162 yards per game). Texas State moved the ball easily on the ground in the first quarter and built a 10-0 lead. Texas State got a 40-yard field goal on its first drive and then got the ball right back. Matt Harris forced a fumble after Darrin Moore caught a 5-yard pass from Doege. Darryl Morris recovered the ball on Texas Tech’s 41. Texas State kept in on the ground and Marcus Curry scored on a 7-yard run to go up 10-0. The Red Raiders got a break when Will Johnson kicked the ball out of bounds, giving Texas Tech the ball its own 40. Two plays later, Doege found Moore along the near sideline and he pulled in a 41-yarder over his shoulder and down to the Bobcats 10. The junior quarterback hit Brad Marquez on a fade pass in the corner of the end zone to trail 10-7 late in the first quarter. The Bobcats got pinned at their own 1 on the kickoff when Isaiah Bell and Derek Lopez collided on the kickoff. That field position wasn’t what hurt Texas State, though. On the next play quarterback Shaun Rutherford threw the ball out of bounds, but he hadn’t left the pocket and was still in the end zone, which gave Texas Tech a safety and a 10-9 deficit going into the second quarter.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Seth Doege threw for 401 yards and five touchdowns to lead Texas Tech to a 59-13 victory against New Mexico on Saturday. Doege tied a school record by completing his first 15 passes en route to finishing 40 for 44 - a 90.9 completion percentage, a national record for quarterbacks with at least 40 completions. “It’s a tribute to the entire offense,” Doege said. “The receivers caught some balls that probably shouldn’t have been caught. “I think I got hit one time, and that was my own fault because I called out the wrong blocking assignment.” Darrin Moore caught nine passes for 118 yards and three touchdowns for the Red Raiders (2-0). Eric Ward had two TD receptions. Deon Long had three catches for 139 yards for the Lobos (03), including a 69-yarder to set up their only touchdown. New Mexico has been outscored 127-26 this season. Texas Tech amassed 624 yards of offense. Two lightning delays postponed the game a total of 95 minutes. The Red Raiders built a 28-0 first-half lead behind Doege’s hot hand. After his first incompletion, he connected on his next seven passes. “It’s pretty wild for an offense to be on like that,” Texas Tech coach Tommy Tuberville said. “It all started with protection. He got hit quite a bit in the first game, but I don’t think he got hit much today. “When you are as proficient as we were today, it makes it easier on everybody.”

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) - Seth Doege scrambled, looked right and found a wide open Eric Ward with 44 seconds left to rally the Red Raiders to a 35-34 win over Nevada on Saturday night. Ward caught Doege’s third TD pass of the night as the Red Raiders (3-0) came back from a 28-14 deficit midway through the third quarter. The winning score happened on a fourth-and-three. He threw touchdowns of 4, 8 and 2 yards en route to completing 26 of 38 passes for 222 yards. The Red Raiders struggled on defense, giving up 562 total yards and Nevada (1-2) capitalized. Redshirt freshman Cody Fajardo threw a 16-yard TD pass to Kolby Arendse and ran for a 56-yarder and 6-yarder for Nevada. He finished with 139 yards on 10 carries. Mike Ball also compiled 139 yards on 27 carries. Doege looked stymied as he took the snap on the final score of the game. He back-peddled to about the 17 yard line as he scanned for an open receiver in the end zone. No one in the middle. No one on the right. He looked left and saw Ward, lofting it to him in the back corner for the winning score. Fajardo and Tyler Lantrip shared quarterback duties for the Wolf Pack, but it was Fajardo who provided the spark. He put them up 28-14 when he faked a handoff to Ball and scampered along the right sideline to score. Doege found Jace Amaro for an 8-yard score to pull the Red Raiders within 28-21. Two field goals by Nevada gave the Wolf Pack a 34-28 lead before Doege led Texas Tech down the field for the winning score. Texas Tech was without its leading receiver, Darrin Moore, for most of the game. Moore left early in the first quarter after he injured his left ankle and knee on a deep incompletion. Isaiah Frey hit Moore as he tried to catch a pass. Moore, ranked No. 2 nationally in receptions per game (11) has caught 21 passes for 339 yards. He had no catches Saturday night. The Wolf Pack went up 14-7 near the end of the first half quarter when redshirt freshman quarterback Cody found a wide open Kolby Arendse on the right side of the field for a 16-yard touchdown pass. On the first play of the drive, Fajardo turned a broken play into a 34-yard gain. Three plays later, he found Arendse open in the middle of the field and he turned it into a 27-yard play. Fajardo replaced starter Lantrip midway through the second quarter and led the Wolf Pack on an 83-yard scoring drive, keeping the ball on the ground for all but one play. Fajardo scored untouched on a 2-yard run around the left side for to tie it at 7-7. Nevada held Texas Tech scoreless in the first quarter, which was a first this season for the Red Raiders. The Wolf Pack found success on the ground early while simultaneously eating clock and keeping the Red Raiders off the field. Their first scoring chance came at the end of a 14-play drive, but Anthony Martinez’s 31-yard field goal missed when he hit the right upright.

The 6-foot-1 redshirt junior, playing his first full season since high school in 2005, was also intercepted for the first time this season but still turned in another virtuoso performance for the Red Raiders (4-0) to remain among the country’s top passers. Kansas’ Jordan Webb, who also came into the game without an interception in his first three games, was picked off three times and each turnover led directly to a Texas Tech TD. Doege connected with Eric Ward on a 40-yard scoring pass, found Jacoby Franks for a 13-yard TD toss and made it 45-27 late in the third quarter with an 18-yard touchdown pass to Ward, who had 71 yards on four catches. The Jayhawks (2-2) parlayed a bevy of big plays into 191 yards and three touchdowns on their first 15 plays of the defensively-challenged day. But then Doege and the Red Raiders got hot, scoring 24 unanswered points before Kansas got a 19-yard touchdown pass from Webb to Rell Lewis to take a 27-24 lead after a first half that lasted just 9 minutes short of 2 hours. The Red Raiders, off to their first 4-0 start since beginning 10-0 in 2008, unleashed a 21-0 third-quarter blitz to salt away their 12th victory in 13 meetings with the Jayhawks. Stephens tallied on runs of 8 and 1 yards before Ward’s final touchdown catch following Cquilin Hubert’s interception. D.J. Beshears got Kansas rolling with a 56-yard return of the opening kickoff. Four plays later, James Sims broke loose up the middle on an 11-yard TD run. Terrance Bullitt blocked the extra point, leaving it 6-0. On the Jayhawks’ second possession, Brandon Bourbon broke into the Tech secondary on a counter play, slipped a tackle, and sped 51 yards into the end zone for Kansas’ longest run of the year. Bourbon had 101 yards on 10 carries and Webb was 16 for 22 for 239 yards and three touchdowns. Doege, who had thrown 122 passes this season without an interception, was picked off by safety Keeston Terry on Texas Tech’s next possession and Kansas set up on its own 25. Beshears got 54 yards on a catch-andrun, then, from the 21, Webb connected with tight end Tim Biere.

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) - Texas A&M coach Mike Sherman brought out some film from the last couple of seasons this past week to remind his players how it feels to win. The No. 24 Aggies had lost two straight after holding double-digits leads at halftime when they came into Lubbock. They led again at halftime, 30-21 against Texas Tech on Saturday night. This time the Aggies prevailed. “It seems like it’s been forever since we’ve had this feeling,” Sherman said after the 45-40 win. “We went back down memory lane a little bit and relieved some of those feelings. And we had that same feeling in there today.” Ryan Tannehill ran for two touchdowns and threw for another for the Aggies. “That feeling in the locker room makes it all worth it,” Tannehill said. “You’re in there with your closest brothers, and you’re having a good time. To me that’s the best feeling you have.” Texas A&M finally put together four quarters, despite being outscored 20-14 in the second half. The Aggies (3-2, 1-1) ran for 205 yards on 46 carries. Seth Doege threw for three touchdowns and 391 yards to lead Texas Tech (4-1, 1-1). Eric Stephens Jr. injured his knee late in the third quarter and had 122 yards on 22 carries. “We hate to lose Eric Stephens,” Tuberville said. “It doesn’t look good.” Cyrus Gray and Christine Michael each ran for a score for Texas A&M. Tannehill found Michael Lamothe early in the fourth quarter for a 5-yard TD to put the Aggies up 45-30. Sherman said he weighted his game plan toward the run. There were 46 rushing plays and 16 passes. “I didn’t want this to be a throw-fest out there,” Sherman said. “I wanted to have some balance in running the football. It worked for us so we stayed with it.” Tannehill’s pass to Lamothe proved crucial. Doege came back and found Alex Torres on a 20-yard TD pass with 31 seconds remaining in the game to pull within 45-40. “We gave ourselves a chance at the end but made too many mistakes,” Texas Tech coach Tommy Tuberville said. “We couldn’t stop their run. We played much better but didn’t get anything going offensively in the third quarter.” The game’s momentum turned on a blocked field goal by the Aggies in the third quarter. Terrence Frederick put A&M up 38-23 when he picked up the ball and ran 63 yards untouched along the near sideline for the touchdown. Dustin Harris was the Aggie who got his hand on the 50-yard attempt by Donnie Carona. That score took the air out of the Red Raiders and their fans. A roughing the kicker penalty on the Aggies earlier in the third quarter gave Texas Tech another shot at scoring. The Red Raiders got only a field goal, though, to pull within 31-23. Steven Terrell appeared to have be pushed into Red Raiders punter Ryan Erxleben on fourth-and-10 from Texas Tech’s 35. Doege found a wide open Torres for a 22-yard gain and then was sacked for a 7-yard loss. Donnie Carona finished the drive with a 49-yard field goal - his second from that distance as the Red Raiders had to settle for 3-pointers throughout the game. LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) - Collin Klein ran for three touchdowns and threw for another as No. 17 Kansas State came from behind to beat Texas Tech 41-34 on Saturday night. Klein ran for 110 yards on 23 carries, scoring on three short runs and hitting Chris Harper for a 3-yard TD pass on the Wildcats (6-0, 3-0) first drive of the third quarter. Tyler Lockett returned a kickoff 100 yards early in the second quarter for the Wildcats, who are undefeated after six games for the first time since 2000. Texas Tech (4-2, 1-2) was held to two field goals in the second half. Red Raiders coach Tommy Tubereville said the Wildcats were true to form. “They don’t do anything special,” he said. “They took advantage of their opportunities and we didn’t take advantage of ours. We had too many missed opportunities.” Seth Doege had 461 yards and a touchdown on 43-of-63 passing, but had three of his four turnovers in consecutive possessions in the fourth quarter. He also ran for a score. He had just one interception coming into the game. “I want them all back,” Doege said. “All of them were pretty stupid on my part. As a quarterback one of our jobs is to protect the ball and I did a poor job of that tonight.” After Texas Tech’s field goal late in the game to pull within 41-34, the Red Raiders recovered an onside kick when Tremain Swindall fell on the ball at their own 47. But Doege and the offense seemed to rush and failed to get a first down after running four plays. The Wildcats, who appeared flat in the first half, came out with more energy after halftime. On Kansas State’s first possession Klein put together the Wildcats’ longest drive of the game, capping it with a fade to the corner of the end zone to Harper to lead 28-27. The TD pass was set up after Klein scrambled out of the pocket for a 25-yard gain to the 3. Kansas State held the ball for 33:33, while Tech’s high-powered offense had it for 26:27. Kansas State stayed close in the first half but only because of its defense and special teams. The offense mustered just 94 yards, less than half of those on the ground. Texas Tech’s defense was tough against the Wildcats run, allowing Kansas State’s 26th-ranked rushing offense just 45 yards on 18 carries in the first half. The plan was to chew up the clock and not let Texas Tech’s offense on the field. The Red Raiders, instead, had the ball 2 minutes longer in the first half. Doege was hot in the first half. He completed 25 of 34 passes for 296 yards, his best first-half of the season. After Lockett’s kick return TD in the second quarter, Anthony Cantele missed the extra point to cut the deficit to 14-13. Lockett took the ball straight up the middle and into a pile of Red Raiders at about the 50. Suddenly, though, he was out front of the pile and outraced them all to the corner of the end zone. The Wildcats blocked two field goals, setting up a touchdown with the second. Raphael Guidry blocked the kick and Nigel Malone picked it up and returned it 30 yards to the Texas Tech 46. Klein put Kansas State up 20-14 when he scored from a yard out.

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) - Tommy Tuberville got his first landmark win with Texas Tech in a place where practically no one else could. Seth Doege threw for 441 yards and connected with Alex Torres on three of his four touchdown passes, and the Red Raiders snapped No. 3 Oklahoma’s 39-game home winning streak with 41-38 victory Saturday night. The Sooners’ run had been the longest active streak in the Bowl Subdivision, and they were bidding to become only the ninth team in FBS history to win 40 in a row at home. “We wanted to show everybody what kind of team we really do have. We’re a resilient team,” Torres said. “We have a lot of fight in us. ...We knew coming in what we were facing, coming in to Oklahoma and playing in Norman. We knew what kind of challenge we were up against but we knew exactly what we needed to do.” Doege carved up an Oklahoma defense missing three starters, and Tuberville pulled off a feat that Mike Leach couldn’t accomplish in his 10 years in charge of the Red Raiders. The Sooners (6-1, 3-1 Big 12) are now 75-3 on Owen Field in Stoops’ 13 years. The other losses came to TCU in the 2005 season opener and Oklahoma State in the 2001 regular-season finale. The celebration in Lubbock, Texas, featured bells ringing on campus, car horns blaring and fireworks being shot off. “It’s one game, but it’s a huge game for recruiting, for national stature. Obviously, you don’t read too much about Texas Tech,” Tuberville said. “For some reason, I haven’t seen much on TV. I bet you see it the next few days. We’re going to be proud of that. When you go on the road and beat a No. 1 team (in the coaches’ poll), it’s really special. That’s almost impossible to do.” Landry Jones ended up with 412 yards passing and five touchdowns, but it wasn’t enough to rally Oklahoma back from a sluggish start and save its unbeaten season. Doege, the nation’s fourth-leading passer, had little trouble leading the Red Raiders up and down the field against the banged-up Sooners. Oklahoma was without cornerback Jamell Fleming (knee), defensive tackle Casey Walker (left thumb) and middle linebacker Tom Wort (concussion) but Tech had no sympathy while playing without starting running back Eric Stephens (knee) and then losing center Justin Keown on the second play of the game. “It was a big-time win for us. It was a fun night for our football team,” Tuberville said, praising his young team for looking like the veterans. “I’m proud of Texas Tech and all the faithful they’ve got. This team deserves to win after what they’ve been through the last few weeks.” Doege bounced back from three fourth-quarter turnovers a week earlier in a loss to Kansas State to throw touchdown passes of 44, 30 and 11 yards to Torres and build up a 31-7 lead just over 2 minutes into the second half. LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) Seth Doege threw for a season-low 171 yards as the 19th-ranked Red Raiders lost 41-7 to Iowa State on Saturday night. “Tonight kind of proves that maybe some of us were still on Cloud Nine,” Doege said. “Today you could tell that some guys weren’t really mentally into it. And I made some mental mistakes, so it’s a team effort.” Texas Tech didn’t get a touchdown pass for the first time in five years. Texas Tech coach Tommy Tuberville said Doege and his teammates will rebound, and the 41-38 win over third-ranked Oklahoma last week will fade. “Obviously, there won’t be the phone interviews for players and the attention on campus, and we go back to reality,” he said. “Last week was different and this one was definitely different and next week will be different.” The Red Raiders play at Texas next week. Redshirt freshman Jared Barnett threw for a touchdown and ran for another and the Cyclones held the ball about twice as long as Texas Tech did as Iowa State shocked the Red Raiders. Making his first start, Barnett’s mobility gave the Red Raiders defense fits. He rushed for 92 yards on 19 carries and completed 14 of 26 passes for 144 yards. His touchdowns were career firsts. It was the largest margin of victory over a ranked team for Iowa State since the Cyclones beat No. 20 Nebraska in Ames by 22 points (36-14) in 2002. Doege completed 16 of 32 passes for the Red Raiders (5-3, 2-3 Big 12). He threw two interceptions, lost a fumble and gave the Red Raiders their lone score on an 8-yard touchdown run. Texas Tech had a streak of 69 games, dating back to a 12-3 loss to TCU in 2006, with a touchdown pass snapped. Duran Hollis broke free for a 71-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter and Iowa State (1-4, 4-4) rolled up 368 yards rushing against Texas Tech’s 105th-ranked rushing defense. The Red Raiders were giving up an average of 205 per game coming into the contest. For the Red Raiders, the game was a surprising letdown after snapping Oklahoma’s 39-game home winning streak. For the Cyclones, it was the first game with at least 300 yards rushing since 2001 when the Cyclones beat Kansas 49-7. who returned it 40 yards to the Red Raiders 1. Barnett, who got his first career rushing TD to put the Cyclones up 7-0, hit Darius Dark for a 2-yard score to make it 21-0. The Cyclones added a 42-yard field goal to lead 24-7 at halftime.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Freshman Joe Bergeron ran for 191 yards and three touchdowns and Texas used another punishing rushing performance to rout Texas Tech 52-20 on Saturday. Texas (6-2, 3-2 Big 12) is bowl-eligible after missing the postseason last year for the first time since 1997. Texas ran for 439 yards against one of the worst rushing defenses in the country. Bergeron topped 100 yards for the second week in a row and Fozzy Whittaker ran for two secondquarter touchdowns. The Longhorns completed just two passes in building a 31-6 lead by halftime. Texas Tech, which broke Oklahoma’s 39-game home winning streak two weeks ago, hasn’t looked anything like the same team in consecutive blowout losses since the big win. Seth Doege passed for 381 yards for Texas Tech. The Red Raiders (5-4, 2-4) have been outscored 93-27 the last two games. Texas played without leading rusher Malcolm Brown, sidelined with a toe injury, and leading receiver Jaxon Shipley who has a knee injury. It hardly mattered as Texas topped 400 yards rushing for the second week in a row and never punted against a Red Raiders defense that was powerless to stop anything Texas did. The Longhorns have put up impressive numbers against two of the worst rushing defenses in the country in Kansas and Texas Tech. The Red Raiders came in ranked No. 114 nationally against the run. Bergeron had 113 yards against Texas Tech by halftime. Texas scored on its first five drives of the first half and ran out the clock on the sixth. After the teams traded field goals early, Whittaker had scoring runs of 12 and 8 yards out of Texas’ “wild” formation and D.J. Monroe dashed to the end zone from 12 yards. Monroe faked Texas Tech safety Jared Flannel so well that Flannel ran into cornerback Derrick Mays, taking both defenders out of the play. For one drive, Texas Tech looked capable of pulling off another big road win. The Red Raiders took the opening kickoff and marched to the Texas 2, but a touchdown pass was nullified by a personal foul. After giving up the early field goal, the Texas defense never let Doege get comfortable, sacking him four times and hitting him several others with constant pressure. The Texas running game continues to protect freshman quarterback David Ash, who is still developing as a passer. Ash’s only three pass attempts in the first half came on play-action deep throws to receiver Mike Davis. They connected twice for 72 yards and even when Ash missed a wide-open Davis early, he followed it up with a 47-yard option run on the next play to set up a touchdown. Bergeron’s first touchdown made it 31-6 at the end of the second quarter and Texas kept pounding the Texas Tech defense in the second half. The Longhorns opened the third quarter with a 10-play drive that used just one pass in driving to Bergeron’s second score, a 5-yard run off left tackle on fourth-and-1. Bergeron’s third touchdown covered 12 yards early in the fourth quarter to make it 45-13. LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) - Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy trusts his second-ranked Cowboys can handle the mounting pressure as they approach their final two games. After beating Texas Tech 66-6 on Saturday, No. 2 Oklahoma State is likely two more victories away from playing for the national title. “There is pressure. Each week I know you can feel it” said Gundy, whose team is 10-0 for the first time in school history. “But it’s our responsibility to manage it.” “But I believe in the leadership of this team, that they feel the importance of getting ready for the next game.” Brandon Weeden threw for 423 yards and five touchdowns and Joseph Randle ran for three more scores to lead Oklahoma State. The Cowboys, second in the BCS standings this week, next (7-0 Big 12) play at Iowa State before closing their season at home against Oklahoma in the Bedlam game. Weeden, who completed 31 of 37 passes, threw touchdown passes of 2, 27, 28, 48 and 66 yards, and had no interceptions before his backup came in late in the third quarter. Justin Blackmon and Josh Cooper each had more than 100 receiving yards. Weeden, 28, said the team isn’t listening to the chatter about their season. “Everyone has their opinion about where we are as a team,” he said. “But really and truly the guys in the locker room, they don’t buy into it. We’re far enough along here, we’ve got something special going on, and they guys are just focused on getting better next week.” It was the Red Raiders’ most lopsided loss ever and the most points allowed in program history. Seth Doege completed 25 of 43 passes for a season-low 169 yards and an interception for Texas Tech (5-5, 2-5). The Cowboys dominated from the start, going up 21-0 in the first quarter. They ran at will and Weeden wasn’t pressured much. He was sacked just once. “I wouldn’t trade him for anyone in the country,” Gundy said. “I know there are some good ones out there, but I wouldn’t put him on the trading block.” Stewart and Blackmon had two touchdowns each. Randle’s rushing scores went for 2, 1 and 10 yards, and he finished with 78 yards on 18 carries. Hershel Sims led the Cowboy with 109 yards on 13 carries.
