The last hour

SUPPOSE IT WAS YOUR LAST HOUR! Suppose it was your last hour! What would you be doing? Suppose it was your last hour! What would be your greatest priority and choice? Suppose it was your last hour! What would be your preparation? If it were your last hour, what a flurry of anxious preparations there would be! But let me tell you, it is the last hour! “Little children, it is the last hour…” (1 John 2:18). If a thousand year is like a day before God, then life generally on earth can just be described as the last second of the last hour! If anybody thought they had only 60 minutes left, they would certainly not spend the time on trivialities. With the microsecond running out like fine sand in an hourglass, they would see what was really important to them. They would not go shopping for the latest fashionable hat, or run an eye down the financial columns to see how their shares were doing. Neither would they settle down carelessly discussing the politics of the day. But unfortunately, people live as though this life were a permanent arrangement. The Bible message is that our days are “numbered”- not numberless. There is actually only time for the important things. The one thing we know is that we don’t know how near we are to the end. It is obvious, however, that we are much closer to the end every day. How long can the last hour last? Nobody knows! This is the more reason why you must give the uttermost attention to the most important things of your life. At the last hour, the preoccupation of every reasonable man ought to be the survival of his life. For what shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his soul? It is foolishness of a superlative degree if at the last hour a man is found still walking and working about having not settled the question of his eternal destiny! You are a spirit in the garb of mortal body which has its expiry date! It is the last hour! The body is fast to becoming dust from which it was taken. The spirit will return to its Giver to receive the judgment sentence of eternal life or eternal death, depending on the life lived in the body. It is the last hour. Life is very short. But have you settled the question of your eternal destiny? Whatever you are occupied with now at the expense of your eternal life will not follow you beyond this earth. “For we brought NOTHING into this world, and we can take NOTHING out of it.” Money, marriage, academic degree, pleasure, etc. everything will pass away with this world. “But this I say, brethren, the time is short: it remaineth, that both they that have wives be as though they had none; and they that weep, as though they wept not; and they that rejoice, as though they rejoiced not; and they that buy, as
