Turkey: Dr Rodrigo Garcia travelled to Turkey in late

January for nutrition/health consulting & support of TechMix dairy products in Turkey. Our distributor is AtaFen and the lady (owner) is Dr Nuran Yavuz. Turkey is one of our most important export markets with a lot of investments being made in the dairy industry.

The TechMix team (top photo) held their annual sales meeting in early December in Minneapolis, MN. This growing team included the USA and international employees and now serves 30+ countries around the world.

Our sales meeting was followed by a Leadership Summit with the Nelson Family of Companies (lower photo), which comprised employees from the 11 companies in the group. All these companies are based in agriculture, from bulk ingredient trading & logistics, premixes and feed, farm retail stores, to specialized nutrition products. It was a great opportunity for all the Nelson companies’ employees to network with each other and explore new business opportunities.

At the same time, TechMix welcomed our new Ruminant Technical Manager, Nathan Upah (photo right). Nathan graduated from Iowa State University with his Bachelor and Masters degrees (2012). During his graduate studies, he worked under Dr. Lance Baumgard, studying transition cow biology; determining CLA isomer on milk fat depression, as well as evaluating zinc amino acid complex on production parameters.

International Early Calf Development Pre-weaning development is directly linked to future productivity & profitability in the first and subsequent lactations. This process is based on the rumen development and can be influenced by nutrition. Recent data indicates that increased growth rates or level of nutrition during this phase is positively associated with future milk production.

Pre-weaning growth rate explains 22% of the variation in milk yield in first lactation compared to only 7% variation from genetic selection. (M.E. Van Amburgh, et al., 2014).

A simple meta-analysis with 7 studies, showed that for every 100g of ADG (average daily gain) during the first 2 months of life, an

additional 225 kg of milk could be expected during the first lactation (A. Bach et al., 2012).

Calf PreRD mixed daily into milk or milk replacer helps to establish dry feed intake at an earlier age to improve weaning weight and reduce digestive health issues. Two trials were performed in Europe and USA in order to determine the effect of feeding Calf PreRD on calf development and production benefits.

During first days of life, calves are susceptible to different kinds of stress allowing pathogens growth and impairing the development of beneficial bacteria in the gut. The teams of Holstein Genetika and Bonafarm recently had 5 intensive days of dairy ration and on farm training in Minnesota. CDP represents Quality Milk, Healthy Cows and Efficient Production.

The Hungarian delegation also attended the annual Form A Feed Dairy conference.
