Below are a few projects, I am considering for 2013-14 BTPs. Interested students can contact the academic office of IIIT-H. In case, you need more details, please feel free to write to me. Project title/area: Automated semantic tagging of speech and audio data (P1) Type: Systems/tool

Stream: CL/CS No of students: 2 Description: This project has two parts. The first part deals with building a user interface to manually tag the speech and audio data, and coming with a set of semantic tags to tag the speech and audio data in the context of personal oral narratives and/or oral knowledge. The second part deals with using a machine learning algorithm to train a machine learning model to automatically tag the unknown data into one of the semantic categories. Prerequisites/skills: Good programming skills in Phyton and C. NLP/Signal processing would be an added advantage. Advisors: Kishore Prahallad and Soma Paul Office room number: A3-120 (Vindhya) Preferred method of contact: email

Project title/area: A dialog based framework for eliciting oral data (P2) Type: Systems/tool

Stream: CL/CS No of students: 2 Description: This project deals with building a dialog based method to elicit the oral/spontaneous data from the speaker in the context of personal oral narratives. The dialog system would be developed on a mobile phone, and hence mobile programming is must. Prerequisites/skills: Good programming skills on Android platform in Java/C. Advisors: Kishore Prahallad, Radhika Mamidi and Soma Paul Office room number: A3-120 (Vindhya) Preferred method of contact: email

Project title/area: Speaker diarization (P3) Type: Systems

Stream: ECE/CS

No of students: 2 Description: The objective is to partition/cluster the speech data into the segments corresponding to an individual speaker in the speech data. The problem may or may not assume the notion of determining the number of speakers in the speech data and then arriving at a method of segregating each of the speaker's data into a cluster. Prerequisites/skills: Speech signal processing/signal processing and good programming skills in Matlab/C. Advisors: Kishore Prahallad Office room number: A3-120 (Vindhya) Preferred method of contact: email

Project title/area: Online voice conversion (P4) Type: Systems

Stream: CS/ECE No of students: 2 Description: The objective is to build an online voice conversion (including training and conversion module) i.e., the problem of converting one speaker's voice onto another, on a mobile platform. This project includes use of existing code-base to port onto the Android platform. Prerequisites/skills: Speech signal processing/signal processing and good programming skills in C/Java and Android platforms Advisors: Kishore Prahallad Office room number: A3-120 (Vindhya) Preferred method of contact: email

Project title/area: Meeting summarizer (P5) Type: Systems

Stream: CS/ECE No of students: 2 Description: The objective is to build an online meeting recordings, annotation and summarizer tool kit on the android platform. Prerequisites/skills: Good programming skills in C/Java and Android platforms. Signal processing may be an added advantage. Advisors: Kishore Prahallad Office room number: A3-120 (Vindhya) Preferred method of contact: email

Project title/area: Voice manipulation (P6) Type: Theory

Stream: ECE No of students: 1 Description: The objective is understand the theory and mathematical models behind the existing voice manipulation algorithms and arrive at a better method or a better implementation. Prerequisites/skills: Matlab and Speech Signal processing Advisors: Kishore Prahallad Office room number: A3-120 (Vindhya) Preferred method of contact: email

Project title/area: Alignment of Audio books (P7) Type: Theory

Stream: CS/ECE No of students: 2 Description: The objective is a follow up of previous year BTP. The idea is to align a large number of audio books, build a framework for automatic alignment and eventually harness the speech data in these audio books for applications in speech technology. Prerequisites/skills: C/Python and Speech Signal processing Advisors: Kishore Prahallad Office room number: A3-120 (Vindhya) Preferred method of contact: email

Project title/area: Audio book player on mobile platform (P8) Type: Systems/tool

Stream: CS/CL No of students: 2 Description: The objective is to build an audio book player similar to the one available in Kindle/iphone/Android platforms. However, the novelty of the work lies in developing a framework where it enables an audio book towards language learning. Prerequisites/skills: C/Python and Speech Signal processing

Beginning Android Project Idea 1.

Android Login and Logout System: If you are just beginner then it is your first assignment. Don’t take it as a final semester project; it is just a simple beginning project for making your interest more. So for learning purpose or for starting you can implement it. 2. Thesis Project Idea

There’s lot of constraints you can see around you or you can take step to eradicate constraints in mobile application development sector. Here’s some challenging project idea that will help you to find your way. 8 Face Recognition and Expression Detection Recognizing human face and detecting the expression is another challenging project idea. 9 Making Mobile UI Library Making mobile UI library will not be easy task for you but you can take it as a challenge for your final semester project. It can help others to build responsive UI without thinking lot more on android layout. 10 Contributing Open Source Project Lots of open source project out there. You can contribute of this project and improve its feature. 11 Fake money recognition app for android: This application is like to be same as face recognition app but it is really a challenging task for you. 12 OMR(Optical Machine Reader) for mobile: OMR is available for desktop based operating system but you can make it for android mobile. . 13 Text to voice and voice to text converter for android: Voice to text and text to voice converter is available out there but you can take it for learning purpose. These all ideas are based on android but it is not necessary that you can be able to implement it only in android platform but it is open for all platform and all languages. So enjoy it and share your ideas with us.
