ZOMBIE EXPERIMENTAL EXERCISE - Z.E.E.
In addition to heroes and zombies, there are also survivors and mercenaries. In multi chapter games, the roll of the survivors is to grant experience to the heroes for saving them. The mercenaries, however, are meant to thwart, if not downright attack the heroes and attempt to take their supplies and sometimes kidnap female players.
By Zachary Parkes The zombie apocalypse is a particular scenario of apocalyptic fiction that customarily has a science fiction/horror rationale. In a zombie apocalypse, a widespread (usually global) rise of zombies hostile to human life engages in a general assault on civilization. Victims of zombies may become zombies themselves. This causes the outbreak to become an exponentially growing crisis: the spreading "zombie plague/virus" swamps normal military and law enforcement organizations, leading to the panicked collapse of civilian society until only isolated pockets of survivors remain, scavenging for food and supplies in a world reduced to a pre-industrial hostile wilderness. ~wikipedia
GAMEPLAY BREAKDOWN Each game round is split into two turns, the directors turn (zombies, mercenaries, survivors) and the Heroes turns (the other players). During the director’s turn, the director get’s to move any zombies, mercenaries or survivors on the board, and possibly introduce new ones. During the heroes turn, each hero may take a defensive action (move, defend or scavenge) and take an offensive action (attack, assist another player, medicate, or persuade an NPC). During play, it is encouraged that all players get into the theme of the game and be descriptive about their actions to add a flowing story to the game. Example: instead of just saying I attack the zombie, a player could instead state that they eye the fierce beast down, level there shotgun at it’s frail and shambling body to eradicate one less scourge from the wasteland.
GAME OVERVIEW The Zombie Experimental Exercise, or ZEE for short, is a tactical/role playing board game about survival in the horrific aftermath of a zombie apocalypse. The game focuses on the players (heroes) attempting to survive against the onslaught of the walking dead/infected. The game itself is broken into chapters, which can later be altered for vast replay ability. Depending on the mode of play, games can be quick one night affairs, or long drawn out epics of survival and overcoming adversity spanning many evenings. The game itself is modeled after the board game hero’s quest, and the popular video game Left 4 Dead. While unique in it’s own rules, it borrows heavily from these two games for mechanics and flavor.
