The new trends in the zootechnical field have witnessed in the latest years an ever-growing attention to the animals’ welfare, which translates on one side in better hygienic-sanitary conditions of the environment in which they live, and on the other one the development of more balanced and complete feeds and foods. One product, in particular, that is widely used as an additive for the feeds (especially for the swine) is the whey that, easily addable to a wide variety of foods and thanks to the high protein supply and high levels of minerals, enhances the animals’ health in many ways.

Considered until a few years ago as a waste product, many companies are dedicated today to the collection of whey, obtained from the microfiltration and usually transformed into powder in a second stage. However, in this phase, lumps and agglomerates of products are formed, that need to be removed in order to use the whey as an additive for the feeds. Usually, moreover, during the microfiltration phase, not all the foreign objects and contaminants present in the milk are eliminated. For the handling of the product Normicom has selected a piFLOW®p conveyor of the brand Piab: through the regulation of the compressed air’s strength, the product can be safely picked up and handled, without any possible loss or contamination thanks to the totally hermetic realization.

Connected to the conveyor through a BFM® polyurethane flexible connector, a vibrating sieve of the Slimline Farleygreene range, able to sieve large volumes of product, quickly and efficiently. Thanks to the vibration of meshes available of different diameters, the product is sieved selecting only the finest parts, removing in the meanwhile all the lumps and the product with different particle sizes.

A modern, simple and efficient solution that not only has removed every lump and contaminant making the product homogenous and clean, but it has also increased the performances of the whole plant and ensured the operators’ safety.
