What is GIS A geographic information system (GIS) is a system designed to capture, store, manipulate, analyze, manage, and present all types of spatial or geographical data.
GIS Applications are tools that allow users to create interactive queries (user-created searches), analyze spatial information, edit data in maps, and present the results of all these operations.
GIS help us answer these questions Is there any medical homeless agencies near me
Where can I take the bus and how can I get there
If we want to build a new homeless agencies, which place has most demand
Are all homeless agencies near the bus routes
How did we achieve it:
From January 12 to April 29

Interface
Interface
Search By Functions – Selecting Function
Search By Functions – Search homeless agency by multi functions
Search By Functions – Select searching area
Search By Functions – Get more information about the homeless agency
Search By Functions – Get direction to homeless agency
Wiki Editing – Delete Useless Agency
Wiki Editing – Add new agency
Wiki Editing – Update the information of the existing homeless agency
Challenge: • •
Have filter bar making it easer to use Make the function “searching by multi functions” more accuracy

This application serves as research tool for understanding and analyzing demographic information of relevance to homeless service providers and researchers interested in this type of demographic information comparison. The application consists of seven maps. These are: • Proximity of Service Agencies to Public Transit • Population Density • Diversity (race by block group) • Median Household Income • A “Homeless Population” map which uses fictitious, randomly assigned data • Library Locations Compared to Service Agency Locations • Vacant Building Locations Compared to Service Agency Locations Images of these maps appear in the following slides in the order in which they appear in the application.
• Public Transit Map • Locations of service agencies as they relate Metro bus lines • Features agency information and bus line information • Features .5 mile buffer zones to denote walkable distance
• Diversity Index Map
• Locations of service agencies as they racial composition
• Provides racial composition information by block group, census tract, and county
• Library Location Map
• Locations of service agencies as they relate to libraries in Hamilton County
• Features .5 and 1 mile buffer zones to denote walkable distance (data courtesy of Presentation Team)
• Homeless Population Map
• Randomly assigned data by census tract in Hamilton County
• Would provide distribution of homeless population as it relates to agency locations

What we want to do Show how many agencies and what type of agencies are within walkable distances from main bus stops and libraries, while also providing walkable buffers around the agencies themselves and see their distance from main bus stops as well as bus routes.
What we did •Create 0.25 mile, 0.5 mile and 1 mile circle buffer as well as network buffer for libraries, main bus stops and homeless agencies
0.5 mile net work buffer for main bus stops The color difference show the number of homeless agencies in different buffers
0.25 mile, 0.5 mile and 1 mile network buffer for main bus stops
1 mile network buffer
0.25 mile network buffer 0.5 mile network buffer
0.5 mile circle buffer for libraries The color difference show the number of homeless agencies in different buffers
0.25 mile, 0.5 mile and 1 mile circle buffer for libraries
0.25 mile circle buffer 1 mile circle buffer 0.5 mile circle buffer
0.25 mile, 0.5 mile and 1 mile network buffer for all agencies Some homeless agencies are very far away from the bus routes

Conclusion Routing Application: For the future one possible approach is to incorporate the public transit navigation option into our current routing application. Thus, the user could use this application to find the best way to go their destination by walking, public transit, or requesting a pick-up Search by Function (with editing capabilities) Application: For the future of the application it would be beneficial to update the functionality of the site to be more intuitive to the users needs. Demographic Data Research Application: For the future we would consider gathering data on the actual locations of homeless people in the area and make a sister application to this Application which would allow users to pinpoint certain addresses or other specified areas using the maps loaded into the aforementioned application Buffer Application: For the future of the application it will be more helpful if we can use Java script to create buffer automatically wherever people click on the map
