Interpretations of the Hot Spots • New hot spot: a statistically significant hot spot for the final time step (last 2 weeks of 2015) and has never been a statistically significant hot spot before • Intensifying hot spot: a location that has been a statistically significant hot spot for 90% of the timestep intervals, including the final time step, with the intensity increasing continuously • Diminishing hot spot: a location that has been a statistically significant hot spot for 90% of the timestep intervals, including the final time step, with the intensity decreasing continuously • Persistent hot spot: a location that has been a statistically significant hot spot for ninety percent of the time-step intervals with no increasing or decreasing trend • Sporadic hot spot: a location that is an on-again then off-again hot spot • Historic hot spot: The most recent time period is not hot, but at least ninety percent of the time-step intervals have been statistically significant hot spots
