T. Edward Vives, born in 1964 in Auburn, Alabama, began his musical journey at four. His initial foray into music started with piano lessons under Edgar and Dorothy Glyde. This early exposure to music sparked a lifelong passion, leading him to explore trombone performance and music composition during his public school years. His talent in these areas grew, laying the foundation for a distinguished musical career. Furthering his education, he enrolled at Florida State University, pursuing bachelor's degrees in Composition and Music Education. His time at university was marked by studies under notable composers John Boda and Charles Carter, which profoundly influenced his compositional style. Additionally, he advanced his trombone performance skills under William Cramer and John Drew. His conducting studies were also a significant part of his education, guided by James Croft. This comprehensive training in various musical disciplines highlighted his dedication and versatility as a musician. His academic journey continued after his undergraduate studies. Driven by a deep commitment to his craft, he pursued a Master of Music in Composition and Music Theory. His passion for music education led him to achieve a Ph.D. from the University of Florida. These advanced degrees further honed his skills and prepared him for a significant role in the musical world as a creator and educator.
