a young age tumour the size of a plum that was wrapped around his brain stem. Now aged seven, the youngster has also been through a gruelling treatment process, but continues to inspire his family with his strength, courage and determination. He has had 32 sessions of radiotherapy since his diagnoses in February and is three-quarters of the way through high-dose chemotherapy. A recent MRI scan has shown the tumour to be clear, but the size and position of the tumours meant Cory is deaf in his left ear and has to be fed through a tube. But Cory has never cried or whinged and doesn’t allow his tumour to get him down. Seven-year-old Ethan Kerr showed true bravery when he saved his family from an electrical blaze. Autistic Ethan, from Ashington, has an obsession with the fire brigade and his longing to be a firefighter meant he knew the measures to take to stop the blaze becoming serious. He won a bravery award from West Hart Old Fire Station for his efforts in stopping the fire from spreading and raising the alarm. On winning the award, Brandon said: “I would like to say thank you. Everyone has done so well and I’m glad everyone got an award.” Mum Sarah Nicholson added: “I’m so proud of him. We never thought he would win, it’s fantastic.” Cory’s dad, Steven, said: “I think every nomination deserved an award, not just in this category,

He knows Brandon from hospital and they are good friends. “If he had won and no one else, I would have put it up at Ward 4 (at Newcastle RVI) for all the children there. I’m very proud of all of them.”

Clutching his award, Ethan said he was going to put it up for everyone to see. “It’s really good,” he said. He added that when he grows up he is going to be a firefighter to help save other people. Dad Jonathan added: “He is fantastic and I wouldn’t change him for the world.”
