Crowds turn out for monster trucks, BMX stunts and motorbike madness – and a human torch

Stunt show provides extreme thrills By Tegan Chapman tegan.chapman@northeast-press.co.uk

HUNDREDS of car enthusiasts and adrenaline junkies descended on the borough for a night of extreme stunts. With a tagline “extreme is a state of mind”, the Extreme Stunt Show offered monster truck mayhem, back flipping motocross stunts and more as the field opposite Earsdon was turned into a pit of thrill-hungry dare-devilry. The show is home to all the favourites including monster trucks Extreme and Lil’ Devil, where drivers Glen Wise and Mark Glover showed the crowds how to handle a 2,000 plus horse powered mammoth machine. Four wheeled monsters leap over people carriers, motor cycles roar and soar through the air, and humans are set alight in this bewitching display of bravery, ambition, and caution thrown to the

wind. Sharing the arena with these machines was the only stunt girl in the show – Abby Baker the Trouble Maker – who performed her own car crashes and roll overs, and two BMXers who wowed with 360 spins and other incredible stunts. Add into the mix a human torch – who set himself on fire and walked across the arena so you could feel the heat in the audience, and the motocross madmen Gary Taylor and Josh Grindrod who performed a series of death defying stunts. This show does exactly what it says on the tin –the stuntmen (and woman) ignore all fundamental forc-

es and defying gravity, flying through fire, jumping ramp to ramp on quads and buggies and putting anything with four wheels onto two wheels. Jumping Jez Avery, a Guinness World Record Holder himself and a former world class professional trials rider, was on hand to compere the event while keeping the audience entertained and informed. He said: “You’re entertaining the kids and the family and it just reminds you of when you were a kid. It is a lot of fun, and you get paid to do it. “It’s hard to organise because it’s a case of getting the right team to do the stunts and once we do the show, you’re committed to over 140 stunt shows in 22 weeks. “The stunts all become second nature really.” Visit www.extremeeventseurope.com for further show details.
