Tekoa Gospel Music news Welcome to the first edition of our monthly publication of my web magazine and blog site, Tekoa Gospel Music News! I am excited that you are reading this and that the vision has come to pass. Tekoa Gospel Music News was launched on the web in September 2010 and has since gained a following of faithful readers and subscribers. Tekoa Gospel Music News is your number one source for gospel music news. Our motto is we are “Declaring the gospel in music, news, and entertainment”. People often ask why I named the publication “Tekoa”. The name means to publish or declare in Hebrew. The region of Tekoa in the bible was a place that surrounded Judah and they sounded the alarm when the enemy was approaching. I am normally the person standing in the music isle in Walmart making recommendations on gospel CDs when customers are trying to make a decision. Most of the time when people want to know who sings what song or song lyrics, they call me. I have a love for gospel music and always desired to own a publication that covers gospel news and music. It is our goal to declare information on new music, news that affects the gospel community, interviews, and scheduled

events. Our existence is in part dependent upon support for readers and subscribers like you. Claude Deuce - Stellar Award Nominee Interview Claude Deuce is nominated for a Stellar Award in the Children's Project Category for his work with Tammy Williams on My Destiny Place by Bianca Woodard

Tell us about My Destiny Place and the role you played in the project If Sesame Street was Christ centered then it would be My Destiny Place. I do music for certain segments and sketches on the show and from time to time I make appearances on the show. How does it feel to be an official nominee for a Stellar Award? It feels great and it was totally unexpected. I had no idea my first nomination would come via a children's tv show! What will you be wearing the night of the ceremony? A suit by Banana Republic... Shoes by Supra. Are you performing during the Stellar Awards Weekend? No not this year. I will be playing keyboards for my bro Big AL at both of his performances.

Claude Deuce is a consummate professional in the gospel music industry and he is one of the most humble people that you (if given the opportunity) will ever meet. This year has been a busy one for Deuce, garnering song placements on Monica Lisa Stevenson’s upcoming CD and Shirley Murdock’s new CD all while holding down a position as Minister of Music at his home church, New Life Worship Center in Hephzibah Ga and continued live performances. His music is an ecclectic mix of old school and new school perfectly blended with complex harmony and stellar production. We have been following his ministry from the early years and were pleasantly surprised to learn of his nomination for a Stellar Award in an unexpected category- Children’s Music. Enjoy this interview with Claude Deuce.

Page 8

You're getting placements on all kinds of gospel projects, what advice can you give any songwriters out there that want their music to be heard or are trying to shop their music? Try your best to write songs weekly or even daily. Establish good relationships with artists, managers, label staff and(or) entertainment lawyers. They're all good people who can get your songs placed. Know your music business, protect your music and shop away What does Claude Deuce look like in 2012? Any new music, products etc? I plan on unveiling some spring/summer pieces in the fashion front. V-neck tees, snapback hats and wristbands. In the fall I'll have sweaters and hoodies as well. All sold on my site. I plan on releasing an album on June 12, 2012 If someone wants to reach you or keep up

Stellar Award Weekend 2012 Special Honors

Kirk Franklin and Hezekiah Walker to be honored with the BMI Trailblazer Award By Staff Writer

On Friday January 13th, 2012, the gospel industry will gather at Rocketown, which is located at 601 4th Avenue South in Nashville, for an invitation only ceremony to honor two of gospel’s trailblazer, Kirk Franklin and Hezekiah Walker. If you grew up listening to gospel music in the early 90′s and even now, you know the impact that Kirk Franklin had on contemporary gospel. He continues to destroy records and break barriers with his latest release “Hello Fear”. Hezekiah Walker’s Love Fellowship Crusade Choir revolutionized the way we sang on Sunday morning. He currently serves as a Bishop in New York. Join TGMN in congratulating these trailblazers for a job well done.

John P Kee to be honored with the James Cleveland Lifetime Achievement Award By Staff Writer

John P. Kee is a trailblazer in his own right and most contemporary gospel music lovers and artists can trace their roots back at some point to a John P Kee concert or CD. John along with the New Life Community Choir, VIP Mass Choir, and all of his other projects set a standard for contemporary gospel music. John P. Kee is being honored with the James Cleveland Lifetime Achievement Award this January at the Stellar Awards.

The Walls Group harmony and in spirit. After experiencing The Walls, you won’t be the same. I love seeing family and ministry merge into something powerful. Yes, that’s The Walls” –Jonathan Nelson, Award Winning Gospel Songwriter/Vocalist Darrel Walls is 20 years old and is the eldest member of the Walls Family Singers. He started playing drums at the age of 4 and did so until he replaced them with the organ/ keyboard. It is his passion for God that causes him to be an exceptional individual, songwriter and arranger. He aspires to someday be a great producer.

New Gospel Sensation, The Walls Group! FAMILY OF YOUNG EXTRAORDINARY SINGERS GAINING PROMINENCE WITH ANTICIPATED FRESHMAN PROJECT Courtesy of the Bellamy Group The history of American Urban music is sprinkled with notable young talented singing groups and bands. From the Jackson 5 to The Clark Sisters, brothers and sisters banning their musical talents together have kept generations of music lovers entertained and captivated of the fantasy-like life of family entertainers. There is a new generation of gifted kinfolk and the word on The Walls Group is spreading quickly throughout Gospel and Christian music. The Walls Group From deep in the heart of Texas comes The Walls Group. Darrel, Rhea, Paco and Ahjah are the singing four of eight children born to Roger and Alicia Walls. With musically inclined parents, these kids could not escape the melodies and harmonies that coursed throughout the household and seeped into their souls. “The Walls have an undeniable family bond and sound. It’s so refreshing to see this group of brothers and sisters united in

Page 24

Rhea Walls is 16 years old and is the second oldest of the group. Her shy personality is overshadowed by her governing but delicately pure soprano voice. She has an exceptional ear for music and plays piano and clarinet. But Rhea is also an outstanding athlete who runs track winning the Fort Bend County School District championship title in 100 and 300 meter hurdles. She’s a Junior Olympics contender! Paco Walls, 15 years old, is next in the line. Alic is known for his raspy, soulful sound. Paco could win the attention of any crowd with his charm and his peculiar voice. Paco declares that God spoke to him in a dream and called him by his name and told him that he would pastor a mega-church one day. Ahjah Walls is 13 and the baby of the singing group. Ahjah has developed into an awesome alto with a unique vibrato. Ahjah can vocally riff and run like her older brother and is setting a course to be a dynamic female vocalist. In between singing, Ahjah loves to draw with aspirations to be a famous cartoonist. Darrel, Rhea, Paco and Ahjah are on a fast track to music notoriety, but under the watchful eye and firm hands of parents who have instilled the Word of God into them. Ministry is the heart of The Walls Group and singing is the vessel in which to tell of the good news. Their youthful voices stand toe to toe with some of the leading gospel artist today. Worship, contemporary gospel and a blend of urban pop comes alive with their charming charisma and stage presence.

ZIE'L- New Look, New Sound Zie’l Preps New Look, New Sound and New 2012 Indie Release Courtesy of the Bellamy Group

Gospel’s fresh-faced, mega talented girl group Zie’l (pronounced Zye – el) stepped into gospel music with an amazing sound that entranced the music industry and exhilarated new fans. Their phenomenal vocal ability captured on their 2006 debut release Genesis featured the customized hit remake of the Clark Sister’s “Is My Living In Vain” and the James Cleveland favorite “Surely He’s Able”. Crystal Bell, Christina Bell, Aphten Jones and Keyondra Lockett perfected a contemporary harmonic style that no one could duplicate. Now, the Stellar Award nominated skillful singing acrobatics of the four will be heard as three until the decision is made to replace departing member Christina Bell. Contralto powerhouse Christina Bell exits the group in pursuit of solo musical endeavors. Christina’s departure is a somewhat somber time for the group, but, contrary to blog topics, is a very peaceable parting. The remaining group members, who are long-time friends as well as family, are in full support of Christina’s aspirations and as she is in support of the group. “I am excited for the journey ahead of me and will miss my girls!” Christina states. “We shall forever remain family and minister to the masses in Jesus name whether together or apart.” Zie’l will begin their new assemblage as a trio immediately and over the next few months while working on a new project will determine to add a new voice or continue on as a threesome. The ladies are writing new music and vocally preparing songs that will continue to showcase their signature intricate harmonies, but will encompass an edgy, urban contemporary flavor that has been progressing within the group over the years. The former Light Records/Gospel Warehouse Records recording group will be embarking on a future CD release as independent artists. Their 2012 project will be on their label Bella Dawn Records with marketing and development guidance from noted marketers and PR specialists The Bellamy Group. Custom Search “We are very excited to be working with and re-united with Benita Bellamy [The Bellamy Group] and we want everyone to know we are still strong and plan to bring forth a huge project,” says group manager Ronda Lockett. “We would like to thank those fans and supporters who have kept our standing in the Lord upright. We would love and need their continued support.”

ZIE'L- New Look, New Sound

While working on their new project and continuing to perfect their blend, the ladies of Zie’l are busy with school, family and ministry. Crystal Bell is currently an Education major at Wiley College in Marshall, TX. Aphten Jones is married and is also a student at Wiley College pursuing a B.S. in Business Administration. She is also the Youth and Youth Choir director at Peaceful Rest Baptist Church in Shreveport, LA. Keyondra Lockett is pursuing a B.S. Degree at The Art Institute in Atlanta, GA and is co-owner of the Red Glasses Sisters online fashion boutique. This gifted group of young ladies has been commissioned to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to people of all ages and walks of life through their exceptional gift of singing. They were all born and raised in the Bright Star Baptist Church, Shreveport, LA, and have been singing together all their lives. The change in members of the group is only a change in number. They are friends and they are family and more so than ever enthusiastic about the future of Zie’l!

For Singles Only! Holy Dating and Whole Relationships with Danielle Harris By Danielle Harris

Before you start dating…you have to work on yourself first. What secrets are you hiding? What pain from your past are you still harboring inside? Are you even financially ready to date? If you don’t confront your issues, you’ll become toxic and you’ll pass your poison on to others. No matter how disgusting, ugly and vile your issues may be, you must confess all of them to God. The devil wants to keep you stuck in your mistakes, but God wants to move you forward into the purpose He has for your life. 1 John 1:9 states “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” If God spoke the world into existence in Genesis, you can use His same words and begin speaking blessings over your life. Dating or marrying someone will not cure your pain or loneliness. You owe it to yourself to break free from these bondages so that you can be a healthy and whole person. As you continue to make the word of God the final authority in your life, you’ll find yourself becoming more prepared for the “right one” God has waiting for you. It’s time for you to enjoy your inheritance as a single Christian. -Danielle Harris

The Poetry Corner I Make No Apologies By Tunisia Williams

Contributing writer

I make no apologies for my prosperity It is written in His word I shall live abundantly As a child of the promise I am an heir, A seed of Abraham who walked with God And was blessed beyond measure. I make no apologies for my health My faith and trust is in Him Who received 39 lashes Across His back, ensuring That even when the enemy Tries to attack, I am reminded One of those stripes heals My infirmity.

It's Mys Time An inspirational moment by Stephanie Bridges

Ladies and Gentlemen you are invited to a public unveiling of a new and improved being It is an unveiling of something you have never seen before What is this unveiling you ask? Oh haven’t you heard, it’s the inauguration of Stephanie Bridges I am that diamond that’s been placed on display for the world to behold I’ve been in the background long enough, time for me to take the stage front and center

I make no apologies for my salvation God sent his only begotten son For all nations to turn from sin To walk away from fleshly desires To have an eternal life in God’s kingdom.

It is indeed the day, the time, and the year for me to come forth.

I make no apologies For being blood washed Filled with his spirit Sanctified by his word and Living a holy lifestyle designed by Him.

I can’t take down for anyone or anything, I can’t acquire anything less

No turning back, towards the goal I must continue to press

It’s my year oh yes it is my moment, my moment to shine Once upon a time my light was dim, but now my light shines bright The light of God illuminates far above my past and far into my future.

Technology And The Church “ "How Technology Is Helping to Spread The Gospel” by Crystal James Every Sunday preachers stand before their local congregations declaring that Jesus is Lord. They even go on speaking engagements across the US and even abroad to spread the gospel. These are all vital methods that not only help church growth, but also lead a sinners soul to salvation. There have been tent revivals, testimonies, and people went out to witnessed to unsaved souls. The traditional methods continue to win souls for the kingdom and bring healing the nations. The message that Jesus is Lord remains the same and the Word of God will never change, although the method and delivery of the message has. Technological developments such as the social network/media, internet, video chatting and mobile devices are helping the rapid spread of the gospel Jesus Christ. Social media has spread like wildfire in the church. Pastorʼs, churches and church members have used networks like Facebook and Twitter to enhance their ministries. If there is an event going on or if you want to know more about a ministry or to find the latest events, you can check out their Facebook or Twitter page, . Some people even post events as they are happening on these sites. Churches have also used the internet to create websites that go into even more depth of what that ministry is about. Sites like Youtube and Google (Video) are being used by churches to post sermons and church events Video chatting sites such as Skype, Facetime, and Oovoo, are really just starting to become popular in the church. If you canʼt make it to a service, or if you are in another city, state, or country, and are in a wi-fi area you can use Skype, Facetime, or Oovoo to be in a service realtime without missing a beat. There are mobile devices like the iPad, smartphones, and applications that help spread the gospel. Some ministers are preaching from the pulpit with laptops, iPads, and cellphones. Notes are going from being written down or printed out to being preached from the computer or iPad. There are bible applications that can be downloaded onto your mobile devices, so if you donʼt have your bible, there is always an electronic one on hand. These are just a handful of the many methods that are being used to enhance the kingdom of God and spread the gospel. These methods help spread the word of God to the nations, touching the hearts and minds of people who we may never get a chance to see or hear. One thing is sure, the Word of God will never change and the message will remain the same that Jesus is Lord and His Truth will endure forever.
