elcome to the 2014 Telepresence and Videoconferencing Catalog! For the uninitiated Telepresence Options runs a daughter website called the Telepresence and Videoconferencing Catalog at www. TelepresenceCatalog.com. The site is the most comprehensive overview of visual collaboration solutions found anywhere on the internet with close to 100 different solutions intelligently organized. Our goal is to provide our readers with a “one-stop-shop” where they can discover solutions they never knew existed. Never heard of the company before? We publish Detailed Company profiles for potential partners, distributors, and investors. There is a cost to appear but we keep it low especially when you consider we wrap up on-line, print, and social media into one integrated package and then mail hard copies to the highest quality audience in the world interested in visual collaboration in over 94 countries.

We also provide “scholarships” for emerging companies (especially if they are emerging from a real garage) because, well, we are entrepreneurs too. Every year we publish this detailed guide as a “Swiss Flip” with our magazine and readers tell us they tuck it away as a reference guide until we publish the next issue. Thank you for subscribing and please let us know if we can ever be of any assistance. Best regards, HSL Howard S. Lichtman Publisher, Telepresence Options HSL@TelepresenceOptions.com

ArrayTelepresence.com
Array Telepresence is transforming visual collaboration by creating innovative solutions to the big problems of quality-of-experience, affordability, and deploying quality video in conference rooms with elongated tables. Array Telepresence’s President and Founder, Herold Williams, has been at the forefront of immersive telepresence since its inception. Williams was the inventor of the TeleSuite, now called the Polycom RPX after Polycom bought the technology in 2007. Williams now stands ready to once again propel the industry forward with his latest innovation: Equal-i - a revolutionary, patentpending telepresence dual-camera and image improvement processor (IIP) with the ability to turn a traditional videoconferencing codec into a life- size telepresence environment for $13,995 and the cost of an additional display. The Equal-i camera and IIP work with any videoconferencing system that takes an HDMI or Polycom HDCI camera input. The camera is concealed at eye-level between dual displays and the IIP dramatically improves the scene before handing it off to the codec for the trip across the wire. The farthest participants are brought “Up Close and Personal”, the amount of pixels on the farthest participants are increased by 6.5xs that of a PTZ, the eye-line and format are improved, and the IIP powers large format, dual-displays using a single videoconferencing codec with no impact on bandwidth or video network infrastructure.
This combination of low-cost, ease-of-use, and easy deployability means organizations can now cost-effectively upgrade dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of traditional videoconferencing rooms into immersive telepresence environments for a fraction of the cost of the existing alternatives. Improved human factors translates into additional usage, and end-user satisfaction which equals an improved ROI on your existing video investment. Just as important: Key executives are more visible and look better when communicating with partners, vendors, customers, analysts, and the press. The company has additional innovations in the pipeline including a solution for large-format single-screen displays, 4k resolution and corporate board room solutions using quad Equal-i processing. The company is actively signing up resellers, systems integrators, and Pro-AV partners to begin upgrading the world’s 2,000,000 substandard HD videoconferencing systems.
The solution is superior to three-screen telepresence environments from Cisco and Polycom costing $300,000+ on a variety of fronts: Better eye-line, concealed camera, stand-up capture, better horizontal gaze angle, less-bandwidth usage, and unlike the “splittable” approach of three-screen environments, Equal-i fits into regular size conference rooms and is an excellent format for local meetings vs. everyone facing the same direction.

What Have You Got to Hide?
Video conferencing is most effective when your intended message is delivered without any distractions from that message. You don’t want people watching your kids playing, or pedestrians walking past the window behind you; they need to be paying attention to you! Draper’s ADEX award-winning Video Conferencing Backgrounds are an elegant and effective method to provide a distraction-free and immersive telepresence. A Custom Printed Background gives your telepresence an air of professionalism, and allows you to communicate more clearly between different branch offices with your logo or custom graphics. We also offer Neutral Backgrounds in industry standard earth tones to reduce background interference in the picture, or green or blue Chroma Key backgrounds for digitally inserting graphics on the fly.
Videoconferencing where and when you need it
Traveller portable backgrounds are lightweight roll-up units that travel with you inside a rugged but sleek carrying case. When closed, the Traveller is small enough to take on the road or tuck behind the couch for home use.
Amy Madden Sales Support/Lift Products Manager
Motorized or manual roll-up backgrounds can be installed on the wall or above the ceiling. These units can be quickly deployed or retracted when located in a multi-use room. Dual roller units can combine two different backgrounds, or a background and a projection screen, as well.
Solutions for the whole room
Draper offers a full range of products to make your telepresence the best it can be. In addition to backgrounds for video conferencing and telepresence, we also feature a complete line of lifts and mounts to put video conferencing cameras where they are needed—above the ceiling, behind a wall, or inside a piece of furniture. Draper also manufactures high quality projector lifts, flatscreen lifts, and window shades for sunlight control and room darkening.

OVERVIEW
Mersive is a venture-backed company based in Denver, Colorado that has been shaking up the AV market since its founding in 2006. The company leverages its patented software to replace complicated and expensive hardware alternatives. Mersive’s innovative products foster interaction, facilitate decision making and cultivate creativity.
SOLSTICE: BRINING VISUAL COLLABORATION INTO THE MEETING ROOM AND CLASSROOM
Other collaboration solutions from the telephone to video conferencing focus on enabling people to talk to one another. Solstice software from Mersive solves the missing piece – making it easy for people to share and collaboration around information. Solstice offers much of the functionality of a video switching system at a far lower price point. For end-users, Solstice provides a very simple way to connect to any screen, using any device to share any application or content type, including media files and videos. • Solstice supports an unlimited number of simultaneous users, or it can provide a moderator the ability to control access to the screen. • Users can connect with Windows or Mac laptops, Apple or Android mobile devices. • Mersive’s patented pixel transport means Solstice streams 1080p at 30 fps over wireless. • Solstice comes with a centralized dashboard that enables an IT administrator to manage all Solstice displays throughout the enterprise from his/her desk. • Solstice integrates easily into existing environments – it works with any display (LCD, projector, video wall, etc), the display software runs on a standard Windows 7 computer, and it can be integrated with AV control panels.

R&D: SCIENCE AND PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT UNDER ONE ROOF
Mersive was founded by Christopher Jaynes and Stephen Webb as an offshoot of academic research funded by DARPA, DHS and NSF. Coming from advanced computer science backgrounds, Jaynes and Webb broke new technological ground, solving various problems related human-computer interaction and display technologies. They raised venture capital to form Mersive as the vehicle for commercializing their inventions. R&D continues to be a robust part of the company. 16 TELEPRESENCE OPTIONS CATALOG

About Oblong At Oblong Industries, we believe that work should be more than a one human, one mouse, one screen, one machine experience. Instead, we’ve created what’s next: a fully unified workspace for multiple users, devices, screens, and locations via a groundbreaking spatial interface. This is what Oblong builds. It’s why we’re here. Oblong Industries was founded by TED presenter John Underkoffler, who envisioned the future of workplaces for films such as Minority Report and Iron Man. That technology, which began at the MIT Media Lab, is now a reality in Mezzanine™. Mezzanine is our flagship product for innovative workplaces. It’s a conference room solution that amplifies sales presentations, boosts multi-location collaboration, and makes work sessions more productive. This new definition of work is so extraordinary we coined a new term for it: Infopresence™. It goes beyond telepresence and it’s only available with Mezzanine. Some of our current Mezzanine customers include GE, Boeing, IBM, SAP, CBRE New England, Sonos, Strategy&, Beats Music, and Harvard School of Design. Oblong Industries is headquartered in Los Angeles with office locations in Menlo Park, Boulder, Houston, Chicago, Boston, New York, London, Barcelona, and London. Learn more at www.oblong.com.

iMatte, Inc. team has been innovating visual effects technologies for the Broadcast, Motion Picture and Graphics industries for over three decades. These milestone technologies have been recognized as foundational building blocks of these industries. iMatte has now turned its focus to presentation technology for business and education. iMatte was formed in 2000 by the awardwinning technology company, Ultimatte Corp., the world’s recognized leader in sophisticated green screen tools for the film, video and graphics communities. Founded by Petro and Paul Vlahos in 1976, Ultimatte provides real-time hardware and computer software products, allowing industry specialists the ability to create completely seamless film effects in motion pictures and virtual studios for broadcasters.
…The Stealth Studio We have been manufacturing complex image processing hardware for the Broadcast Industry for over 35 years. Every major broadcaster in every country in the world relies on our equipment and the production techniques we pioneered. Our equipment, renowned for its user-friendly controls, is the standard for the live broadcast chain, which has the most demanding standards for performance and reliability of any industry in the world.
The industry has recognized the achievements made by Ultimatte, its Founders and team members with 4 Oscars, 3 Academy Awards for Engineering Excellence, an Emmy and numerous other awards. Paul Vlahos realized the presentation needs of business and education were not being addressed, or even understood, by the communications industry. By recognizing presentations are mini-theatrical performances that, if the temper could be captured intact, and enhanced with production values, at an inconsequential cost, they could become an important source for the ever-growing demand for engaging video. Deep experience by the iMatte team in entertainment production technology has provided a unique and fresh approach that has defined a new space in the communication technology market. The iMatte team has solved many well-defined problems that have defied the efforts of much larger organizations. SightDeck, the Stealth Studio, solves important problems that have defied even being defined by larger organizations.
The iMatte SightDeck creates stunning presentations with green screen effects, live or recorded, with participants who can be in different locations.

WE LISTENED.
At VDO360 our goal is making visual communication available to all organizations at a reasonable cost. We developed the award winning VPTZH-01 USB Pan, Tilt and Zoom camera with that in mind. Simple to use, deploy, and best of all- very affordable. Our first camera revolutionized the PTZ USB camera marketone only has to look at the manufacturers following our lead this year. As popular as that camera is our customers are asking for some features. Our image quality has always been a benchmark, so after working with several options of lens/processor combinations we found that our original combination was a winner in all situations. So we are not changing it. It would be relatively simple to create a camera that was not a native USB output. Simply take an existing HD camera, and then do a conversion through an additional card in the base or perhaps outside of the camera with a puck or other external box. This would be C-USB or converted USB. That conversion algorithm has some overhead that now cannot be used for video transmission. We started out with native USB and we are not changing that either. So what are we changing? Our customers have asked for presets. Our customers asked for faster pan and tilt motors. Our customers requested on screen control. And not least, our customers asked for a lower cost! Presets are tough- especially in such a small form factor camera as ours. So we had to change the chassis to enable a different type of motor, one that has coordinates that can be addressed. Faster pan and tilt motors were developed to have as quick of a motion as possible while at the same time continue the theme of “small is better. We developed the Accu-PT system for slow camera movement for accurate incremental positioning, then acceleration to full speed with a continuous push of the remote control.

We have created an onscreen control software application that meshes with our full UVC compatibility, allowing for user to have Near End Camera Control on their desktop in an attractive interface. Thisability for our camera to be controlled through the software codec, if that codec is capable of doing FarEnd Camera Control, is a great feature for both telemedicine and distance education. While we have increased features, and designed a completely new chassis as well, our customers were unanimous in requesting that lower cost! Funny how that works. We listened. We are proud to present the new standard in USB PTZ HD cameras. The Compass! Others may try to emulate our camera in form, others in features, and even others may try to develop cameras with USB 3.0 with our features, but we at VDO360 are not listening to our internal group of engineers or salespeople, we are listening to our Research and Development team- our customers. They are the folks who use this equipment every day and in so many different situations.

WOW Vision is in the business of improving idea generation in organisations through collaboration and innovation At WOW Vision our mission is to let our customers have the tools and solutions that enable them to overcome the constraints imposed by archaic equipment and cabling in meeting rooms and classrooms, to bring people and ideas together and inspire them to strive for greater height in productivity and breakthrough in innovation.
Our Philosophy Ideas have a DNA Think about it. Ideas characterise and define an organisation’s thinking processes. Ideas are nurtured and cultivated to become the next big thing for astute entities to farm, formulate, and rapidly factor into their operations. We believe that innovation is one strand of an idea’s double helix. Collaboration is the other. Innovation gives birth to new thinking processes. Collaboration fuses these processes into ideas that have the power to upgrade not just an organization’s operations but its culture, its ethos. Thus innovation and collaboration are equally responsible for the existence of ideas We develop solutions that enable idea generation Fluid idea generation can be enabled by technologies that accompany interactions between stakeholders in organisations. Integrating such technologies with natural human interactions will help organisational units coalesce individual ideas into collective frameworks. These technologies carry their own set of problems, primarily the inevitable prioritisation of compatibility over collaboration; infrastructure over innovation. We address these particular issues by disrupting the IT architecture of organisations that utilise these technologies in its spaces. By doing so, we shift people from passive recipients in a monologue of data, to active participants in a dialog of information to spur idea generation.

Equal-i Technology
Equal-i is the name of Array Telepresence’s patent-pending image improvement algorithms, dual-camera and Image Improvement Processor (IIP) that dramatically improves the scene for telepresence-quality experiences using your existing videoconferencing codec in any standard conferencing room. The system is designed to work with standard elongated conference room tables and boardroom tables. For dual-screen systems the Array Equal-i 2S dual-headed camera is concealed at eye-level in a 1 inch space between two displays (Curved or flatpanel. Video walls are feasible as well) and then the camera and space are concealed with a cover. The Image Improvement Processor (IIP) sits between the specially-designed dual-camera and the videoconferencing codec. It is running Array’s custom image improvement and equalization algorithms on high-speed FPGA and geometry warping chips that dramatically improve the scene from two separate cameras each
capturing ½ the room before sending it to the videoconferencing codec for compression. On the other side of the videoconferencing call, the Equal-i IIP receives a single videoconferencing stream from its codec and splits the stream into two different high-definition streams allowing a single codec to power dual displays. The resultant experience is measurably superior to 3 screen telepresence environments from Cisco and Polycom that cost $300,000+ for 1/20th the cost. The farthest participants are brought “up close and personal” increasing the pixel count on their faces by 6.5Xs that of a PTZ camera while “Equal-i-zing” their size to that of the closest participant. Vertical eye-line is improved by ~13% over PTZ, meeting format is improved to a more “across the table” feel, stand-up capture is enabled, and the system powers a wideformat dual-display using a single codec with no impact on bandwidth.

The Equal-i 2S is Array Telepresence’s revolutionary dual-camera and Image Improvement Processor (IIP) that dramatically improves the experience of traditional videoconferencing systems in regular conference rooms with regular furniture.
While the Equal-i 2S will power dual displays using a single codec, adding a 2nd codec will enable “telepresence multi-point” with ½ of each remote room (4-6 essentially life-size participants from each remote site) visible on each screen in a “global roundtable” format.
Integrates with Existing Systems The Equal-i 2S plugs into any videoconferencing system that accepts an HDMI or Polycom HDCI camera input. The Equal-i camera replaces or augments the pan-tilt-zoom camera that came with your codec and is concealed between dual displays at eye-level. Between the camera and your videoconferencing codec sits our patentpending Image Improvement Processor (IIP). The IIP works at high-speed to improve the image before it is sent to the videoconferencing codec for the trip across the wire. The farthest participants are brought “up close and personal”, eye-line is improved, meeting format is improved, stand-up capture is enabled, and the IIP powers dual displays using a single codec. Effective Multi-Point The Equal-i 2S enables effective multipoint – Example: With 3 Equal-i 2S locations with dual 65inch displays using 8 seat tables you can “Crop & Stack” and show up to 16 participants in two rows across both displays . Using 12 seat tables and 80inch displays the total rises to 24 participants.

Together
Because the World Needs a Stealth Studio
To Make a Presentation to a Distant Location
CEOs by nature are passionate and articulate when speaking to a group. Why then, in front of a camera, do they appear stiff? What happened to the charisma? It’s camera shyness, performance anxiety, and stage fright. Poor performance can result in front of a camera compared to a room of peers.
SightDeck recognizes that the presentation part of a telepresence meeting is as important, if not more important, than the “face-to-face” part. It transforms the presentation experience for the recipients in the room as well as the recipients at a distant location, into something that is capable of being engrossing, memorable and impressive. A recording of a SightDeck presentation is actually watchable and worthy of posting.
The same is true for communicators in sales and training. It’s human nature. It’s a prime cause of the high cost of studio production. Too many retakes force in a teleprompter only to reveal he’s even stiffer when reading. In order to get through the day on a reasonable schedule, imperfect performances are patched together in post adding further cost. It’s even harder in front of a green screen with its production crew and studio lighting followed by costly post-production background animation. The result is a “wooden” performance made odd by high production values. SightDeck is the Stealth Studio. It circumvents the phobia of performance. Needing no green screen, no crew or studio lights, it can turn any room; conference room, lecture hall, classroom, large venue conference hall, meeting room, office, telepresence room or training room, into a virtual production studio without the intimidation. The Stealth Studio maintains the ambience of the natural environment so that presenters feel the confidence found with colleagues, familiar surroundings and comfortable lighting. SightDeck makes it possible to capture that illusive inspired performance, produce a polished, interactive, professional quality composite, perform to a live audience, stream to a distant audience and record, all simultaneously. No studio, no crew, and no post-production make SightDeck production costs comparable to voice-over-PowerPoint.
In a telepresence environment, a presentation becomes a voice-over- graphics experience when looking at the graphics monitor and a talking head experience when looking at the presenter. Sometimes the presenter’s image is tiled onto a corner of the presentation monitor making it more suitable for recording. When the presenter makes a reference to some detail in the graphic he looks down at his computer or at the local presentation monitor as he positions the cursor, either way, his eye-line adds only confusion. To Make a Collaborative Presentation An added benefit is the ability of SightDeck to effectively deliver a collaborative presentation where participants appear together on the screen even though they are in different locations. QUESTION: When to use a SightDeck System? A. B. C. D.
Presentations Productions Collaborations Webinars
ANSWER: All of the above
Imagine high-energy presentations, with green screen studio quality production captured by the Stealth Studio, the SightDeck. TELEPRESENCE OPTIONS CATALOG 31

For the first time, business people can arrange face-to-face meetings with their partners, vendors and customers—no matter where they are or what equipment they’re using—with just a few clicks of a mouse. VidyoWay’s simple web interface makes it easy for any business user to set up a video conference with colleagues who use Cisco, Polycom, Lifesize and other H.323 and SIP-based room systems and Microsoft Lync clients. If participants don’t have access to any of these technologies, a free mobile app from VidyoWay lets them join the meeting from a tablet or smartphone. They can even call in from an ordinary phone. By making B2B video conferencing as accessible and easy to use as audio conferencing, VidyoWay will create a network effect driven by a steadily growing number of user communities. Companies interested in becoming early adopters are invited to apply.

OVERVIEW With VGo, an individual’s presence is established in a distant location such that they can interact and perform their job in ways not previously possible. Now they can see, hear, be seen, be heard and move around – just as if they were there - all with a great user experience and at an affordable price. For the remote person, it’s very different than a video call since they are in complete control over where they are and what they see. For the people with the VGo robot, the device quickly changes from a robot to the very real remote person. In healthcare, doctors and nurses are using VGo to extend their reach to monitor and consult with patients in the hospital, skilled nursing facility and in the home. Family members are also using VGo to visit loved ones when they can’t be there in person. Patient satisfaction and the standard of care are increased while re-admissions are decreased. In education, home and hospital bound students are using VGo to go to school just as if they were there in person. They go from class to class and hang out with their friends between classes. The school doesn’t have to provide any assistance and it’s less expensive than providing an in-home tutor. In business, remote and disabled workers are using VGo to go into the office and “be” with the team. Travelling managers are using VGo to check in and busy executives can establish their presence in remote offices more frequently without travelling.

Whether it’s a large room full of bustling co-workers, pedestrians walking past, or, for home-based Telepresence, the kids destroying the house behind you, let’s face it—we all have something to hide. You don’t want people watching the antics of your kids or coworkers, or looking around the inside of your warehouse, when they should be paying attention to you. Draper’s ADEX award-winning Video Conferencing Backgrounds are an elegant and effective method to provide a distraction-free and immersive telepresence. Backgrounds are an integral part of any video conferencing application. Specify a standard background for your company and utilize a consistent solution for all employees, ensuring a consistent company image to all of your customers. Further enhance your telepresence experience with lifts and mounts to put video conferencing cameras where they are needed—above the ceiling, behind a wall, or inside a piece of furniture; window shades for sunlight control and room darkening; lifts for flatscreens or projectors; and projection screens.
Background Options
Custom Printed Backgrounds— Give your telepresence an air of professionalism, or even communicate more clearly between different branch offices with your logo or custom graphics. Neutral Backgrounds—Woven textiles in industry standard earth tones to reduce background interference in the picture.
Draper’s Video Conferencing Backgrounds
Traveller portable backgrounds are lightweight roll-up units that travel with you inside a rugged but sleek carrying case. When closed, the Traveller is small enough to take on the road or tuck behind the couch for home use. Motorized, manually operated and spring roller operated Video Conferencing Backgrounds quickly deploy from and contract into a case mounted on the wall or above the ceiling to allow a professional, custom Telepresence experience in a multi-use room. The motorized Dual Roller Background puts any two of Draper’s background options— or a background and a projection screen—into in one ceiling-recessed case.

TELEPRESENCE AND VIDEOCONFERENCING CATALOG Nonprofit Fluoride Action Network
Bicycles for Humanity is a non-profit that collects unused bikes in North America, Europe, and elsewhere in the western world and ships them to developing countries, primarily in Africa, where they change lives by providing transportation for local entrepreneurs, charities, and deserving individuals.
The Fluoride Action Network (FAN) is leading the charge to broaden the understanding of the dangers of Fluoride and have it removed from public water supplies around the world. FAN has organized over 4100+ health, scientific, and environmental professionals including Nobel Laureates, Goldman Prize Winners, National Medal of Science Winners, and the current president and 6 past presidents of the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology.
CHARITIES
Nonprofit Bicycles for Humanity
Some of the groups that benefit from Bicycles for Humanity include: Women, who typically spend more time walking than men by performing domestic duties like gathering food, water and firewood. Children, who face long walks to school and arrive too tired to learn, or simply don’t attend. Healthcare workers, who often walk long distances to provide medication and counseling to people living with HIV/AIDS and malaria in their homes.

Nonprofit Kiva
Kiva is a unique charity where donors support entrepreneurs in by making microfinance loans of as little as $25. Kiva “lenders” can choose from thousands of entrepreneurs and target their loan to a specific country, sector, gender, and/or attributes like green or higher education initiatives. A typical borrower might be a Peruvian woman who makes peanut butter by hand looking for $750 to buy a machine to quadruple her output. Multiple Kiva members fund the loan and a local charity (called a field partner) administers the loan and collects repayments. As the loan is paid back the money is deposited back into the lender’s Kiva account where they can lend again to another entrepreneur in need in a virtuous cycle that creates jobs and local economic development.
Nonprofit Vacation for Veterans
Vacations for Veterans provides recently wounded veterans of the United States Armed Forces with a well-deserved vacation. The organization collects donations of unused time in vacation homes which they then pair up with deserving vets. Occasionally, through the generosity of donors, they are able to provide amenities like airline tickets, a rental car, and even the occasional fishing trip.
