BODA BODA BAN

I’ve always thought I’ll get to adapt to the Kisumu weather, it never gets easy early in the year, and as a starter pack: a pair of sunglasses, a vest, a pair of shorts, some nice Birkenstock open sandals, a bottle of water and some sunscreen-is all you need cause it gets hot.

My first acquaintance with Kisumu was probably some few years back and I was introduced to “Mama Hassan”-the Holy Grail. We could grab a couple of plates of bhajias and pilau before heading to the united mall to admire the window displays Much has not changed just a little addition of spots to my wanderlist.

Long live the culture! Three of my friends and I ,”club four” as we always pride ourselves, never fail an adventure therapy and specifically a cityscape in the blue city. We’ve always fancied West End Mallthe Masai market in its environs, the Java-Henny wing, the marble-like floors and the fountain. Mega Plaza has always been like a Kisumu lighthouse to us with partial views of the lake and the port, you can’t miss the ecstatic general view of the city from its huge windows. Hats off to the city’s streets because the heights of cleanliness are way up in scale. An additional KFC would ease that buying traffic which is sometimes hectic.

Do you get pissed when the weather changes abruptly and what you’re wearing turns to a living hell? That’s Maseno weather in a nutshell, guess that’s the equator life!

In my new reality, Maseno is fairly cool and most of all is the landscape. ‘The New Zen,’ what I like to call it-a quiet and serene environment with tall grasses and tall-texturized trees next to the Kisumu-Busia highway. It is part of VET Farm and extends up to KEFRI Maseno and a gem for meditations, soul searching and reflecting. In my opinion, it’d make a nice yoga place but the fencing which is accessible to all makes security a real concern.
