The Bloomin’ Temple Festival is a two day event that is held in downtown Temple on Friday, April 20th and Saturday, April 21st. It’s your typical festival by day… lots of food vendors, plenty of cold beverages, a very large car show, arts & crafts vendors, business booths, carnival, and a “kid zone” with pony rides, petting zoo and free activities for the kids. The Friday night concerts will feature Tejano artists this year. It should be about a six hour show with each of the three groups doing two sets each. We have Los Texmaniacs with Rick Trevino, Elida Reyna, and 2008 Tejano Album of the year Grammy winner Ruben Ramos. On the second stage we will have One vs All, Hedley Grange and Wild Horse. One the second stage Saturday daytime entertainment is mostly local school age children, singing, dancing and bands. Saturday night concert is all country with Deryl Dodd, David Lee Murphy and Kevin Fowler.

Admission will be $5 for Friday and $5 for Saturday. Children 12 and under are admitted free.

In The Mood Ballroom and Studio Receives Temple Historic Marker The Temple Historic Preservation Committee hosted a reception honoring In the Mood Ballroom and Studio as the latest recipient of a Temple Historic Marker. The reception was held on Friday, March 9th, at 2:30 p.m., at the In the Mood Ballroom, located at 15 South Main St. In the late 1800’s, the buildings of honor were simple wood frame structures. By the early 1900’s, they were transformed into the large brick structures we see today. Over the years, a variety of businesses have been housed in the buildings, including McClellan’s 5 and Dime Store, which occupied the buildings from 1927 to the early 70’s. Many McClellan items were unearthed during the renovations. Other businesses that have enjoyed the use of the buildings include Perry Brothers, a pharmacy, a Fair & Racket Store, a General Mercantile and a Tin Shop. The upstairs housed offices for doctors, dentists, lawyers and photographers.

The buildings have truly blossomed under the ownership of Rudy and Karen Gonzales. The couple has dedicated an enormous amount of time and money in the three buildings on Main Street. The couple purchased the ballroom in 1999 and quickly began renovations to transform the building into the lovely ballroom it is today. The two adjoining buildings have also undergone major renovations.

The Historic Marker Program was designed to recognize historically significant structures within the city, while encouraging preservation and restoration. In order for a property to be considered for a Temple Historic Marker, the property owner must fill out an application and submit it with supporting documentation to the Historic Preservation Committee. The committee will then review the application and make a decision.

Come Celebrate the 5th Annual St Patrick's day event Sat Mar 17 at O'Briens Pub. We will be open from 11 am until 2am. Through out the day we will be serving Authentic Irish meals for lunch and dinner... A great outside show by Sprung from 8pm-12am in the courtyard. Since we moved the concert outside the event has been growing, over 1600 people attended throughout the day last year. So come out and celebrate as only the Irish do at O'Briens Irish Pub!

PRESENTS ANNUAL CHAMBER CONCERT Saturday, March 3 at 7:30 pm at the Mary Alice Marshall Performing Arts Center

Michelle Palmer, Temple Symphony principal clarinetist, will perform with Suzanne Jacobson, concertmaster, and Eka Gogichashvili, violins; Audrey Schubert, viola; Shawn Sanders, principal cellist; and Li Ping Wu, piano. The program includes four diverse works.

The “Clarinet Quintet in A major KV 581” by Wofgang Amadeus Mozart, written in 1789, is one of the earliest and best-known works written especially for the clarinet. It is noted for its lyrical melodies, especially in the popular second movement. The clarinet was a relatively new instrument when Mozart composed the piece. His work helped promote its popularity. “Suite for violin, clarinet and piano, Opus157b is from the incidental music ‘Le voyageur sans bagages’ (The traveler without baggage)” by Darius Milhaud. A deceptively simple, relaxed work, “San bagages” was composed in 1936 for a French play of the same name. During the 1930s, Milhaud frequently wrote film and stage incidental music which is still popular with audiences today.

The “Piano Quintet in f minor Opus 34” by Johannes Brahms which starts the second half of the program features only strings and piano in the classical work composed in 1864. Each instrument has sections written as duets or trios.
