Greatest Love Poetry Ever Written with Rabbi Jonathan Aaron Tuesday, May 2 & 9
7:00 pm, Conference Room The Song of Songs from the Bible is all about love. Read some of the Bible’s most beautiful verses, and hear some of the most beautiful poetry ever written. We will also look at other poetry throughout the ages and discover whether thoughts of love transcend time, or if our understanding has changed. The Music of Love with Cantor Lizzie Weiss Tuesday, June 6 & 13
7:00 pm, RSVP for Location This series explores traditional and contemporary texts as well as melodies that create the basis of "Jewish love music" today. According to Kabbalah, God created the world because love needs another to love. Whether seeking our love of God, our love of one another, or our love of Torah, the sultry tones of a good love song have always elevated simple words to a place of emotion.

Dear Rabbi... Why does the number eighteen signify “life” in Jewish Tradition? Sincerely, – Chai on Life
Dear Chai on Life, You may have noticed that many people wear necklaces with the Hebrew word “chai” on it. You also may have noticed that Jewish people like to give monetary gifts in multiples of eighteen. One of the most important Jewish values is the

Submit your questions to DearRabbi@tebh.org sanctity of life, indeed, life itself. Using gematria, which gives every letter a numerical value, the value of the word “life,” chai, is 18: The cheyt is worth 8, and the yud is worth 10. Jewish spiritual tradition maintains that being connected to the number 18 in any way connects you to life’s force. This is why there is such a powerful connection between the number 18 and good luck. So when you donate to the temple, be sure to make it in multiples of 18, like $180, $1,800, $181,818, or even $1,800,000. – Rabbi Jonathan Aaron

Prayer of the Month It is hard to believe that summer is fast approaching! I spent 12 great summers at URJ Camp Swig/Newman. Camp shaped me as a human and as a Jew. As our amazing new educator, Rabbi Adam Lutz, recently told me, “At camp I was able to be vulnerable, and at camp I was able to be my whole self”. Whether your child(ren) are off to Jewish summer camp or another fabulous secular camp, your Temple Emanuel Community wishes them a summer of growth and friendship. Please share this prayer, by Rabbi Daniel Ropper, on behalf of the Union for Reform Judaism.

Mi shebeirach avoteinu Avraham, Yitzchak, v’Ya’akov, Sarah, Rivka Rachel, v’Leah, hu y’varech et chanichim haeleh. May the one who blessed our ancestors, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Sara, Rebecca, Rachel and Leah bless all of these campers as they go off to summer camp. May You guide them in peace. May their journey this summer be beautiful, filled with shira, song, rikud, dance, omanut, art, simcha, happiness, s'chiya, swimming, ruach, spirit, and chaverut, friendship. May they give and receive many lanyards and friendship bracelets, hike to the most inspiring places, and stay up late laughing with friends. May they experience great challenges and succeed in overcoming them and also learn from their struggles. May they be partners in creating a kehillah kedosha, a sacred community of love and friendship and learning. And may they return to this community, changed for the better while very much the same— bringing with them new rituals, songs and prayers.
V’yachazikeim v’yadricheim b’orach Torah u’v’ma’asim tovim. May You help them grow in mind and heart, drawing them closer to You and to a life of Torah and ma’asim tovim, good deeds. And let us say, "Amen."
