On behalf of my dedicated clergy colleagues, Rabbi Sarah Bassin and Cantor Lizzie Weiss, Rabbi Adam Lutz and Rabbi Emerita Laura Geller, along with our Executive Director Matt Davidson, and our entire dedicated staff, I’d like to welcome you to our programming, events, and information guide for the year. A synagogue's spiritual life comes from what congregants experience together and how the community expresses itself. These pages contain the ways to connect to your Jewish spiritual life: music, prayer, community engagement and action, learning, meditation, conversations on current issues, yoga, holiday celebrations and commemorations. Look through the offerings over coffee or while sitting quietly in your living room with your phone. Put what interests you in your calendar. Our theme comes from Proverbs 3:6. “In all of your ways, connect.” In Hebrew, it is “B’chol darchecha Da-eyhu.” We have the opportunity to connect in everything we do, at all times. To do, to be, to participate in our lives and connect to something other than ourselves is at the core of Jewish spiritual expression. The evening begins with a congregational dinner so you can fuel your body before you refuel your spirit! Then, join us for Shabbat Spark! Part soul, part rock, and all Shabbat. This participatory Shabbat service puts down the prayer books (words on the screen) and jams out with our electric six-piece rock band, student Soul Singers, Junior Cantors, and Religious School students as they lead us through the service. RSVP is always appreciated for dinner at tebh.org/SparkDinner. For the little ones, see Little Sparklers below. Temple Emanuel’s signature in-theround service features spiritually uplifting meditation and poetry. Our community will unify through the energy and music of Zack Lodmer's clarinet and Ava Nahas' hand-drums combining with Rabbi Aaron's guitar and Cantor Weiss' lead vocals, along with everyone singing together. Enjoy a thoughtful short teaching by our clergy, or diverse and engaging special guests. Join us for wine and cheese at 7:15 pm prior to each Shabbat Unplugged!

Second through Fifth Friday of the Month 6:15 pm, Belle Chapel & Livestream on Vimeo This weekly service blends nostalgic and contemporary melodies to create a peaceful and enjoyable start to the weekend. Simply Shabbat features an hour of music, prayer and a d'var Torah (teaching) from one of our clergy that will reassure, challenge and spiritually move you.

This Shabbat experience is all about engaging your toddlers and pre-reading children in song and story. Let our clergy welcome Shabbat with your child(ren), then we invite everyone to join our community dinner at 5:45 pm. Following dinner, our Shabbat Spark service is a great opportunity to let your children dance and pray in an energetic and fun environment.

Our weekly Shabbat service is a unique blend of traditional prayer, nusach (musical themes), and guitar-led melodies. Congregants actively participate in the service by volunteering for honors, greeting visitors, chanting the weekly Torah portions, and celebrating life-cycle events. The service is highlighted by a thought-provoking text study that sparks conversation that often carries through into our Kiddush luncheon.

In Partnership with PJ Library and the Jewish Federation of LA Second Friday of the Month September–June, 9:15 am, Movement Room

Join us on the second Friday of each month and get your children to move and groove with Shabbat songs and story time. With Cantor Lizzie Weiss and Rabbi Adam Lutz, we bring that Shabbat spirit to children, parents, grandparents, and caregivers. All are welcome so bring a friend! This service is designed for families with children 0-2 years old. Special thanks to our partners, the Jewish Federation and PJ Library.

Join us throughout the year for our lively Shabbat in the Park service in the heart of Beverly Hills. Sunday, October 20, 4:00 pm, ECC Sukkah On Sukkot, we welcome the first fruits of the harvest and in that spirit we gather together to bless the newborn children in our congregation. We invite all new parents to bring their babies to the Sukkah to receive a blessing. Let us celebrate life and family on this harvest holiday. Families can join us afterwards for Simchat Torah at 5:00 pm.

Saturday, November 16 & May 9, 8:00 pm, Your Home Join us for Havdalah, the ceremony that says goodbye to Shabbat, in the comfort of your home, even in your pajamas! Our clergy will be on Facebook Live, to peacefully lead us into the week. You can light the candle, smell the spices, and taste the wine (or grape juice) along with others in the congregation enjoying their evening at home. A simultaneous virtual Havdalah community.

Literally translated as “the sending of portions,” this holiday program is our way for the temple community to indulge in delicious hamentashen and other Purim treats! Soul Singers Our Soul Singers are a very friendly crew of 3rd-7th grade religious school students who blend music, Judaism, community, and spirituality together in a fantastic mix of learning and performing. New singers feel welcomed as soon as they join and will learn to read music, sing in various languages, and learn songs from many genres, including Broadway tunes, traditional songs, and folk music from around the world. Our Shabbat Spark Service gets its energy from our spirited Soul Singers!

Through the Eyes of Rashi Sundays, Starting September 8 9:30 am, Clergy Library

Engage in an ongoing discussion of the Torah text as seen through the eyes of scholars across generations, from Talmudic to modern times. Guided by respected teacher Dr. Chaim Plotzker, learn how the ancient texts and interpretations are relevant to our modern lives. Introduction to Judaism

Wednesdays, Starting October 30, 7:00 pm, Belle Chapel An 18-week exploration for individuals and couples interested in deepening their understanding of what Living Judaism means to them. Designed for those interested in conversion, as well as those who simply want to learn more about Jewish holidays, life cycle ceremonies, values, history, liturgy, and texts. Whether you are new to Judaism, interested in converting, a partner of a Jew (with no plans to convert) or a practicing Jew who wants to learn more, all are welcome to come and learn. Now in our third year, the Sisterhood of Emanuel is an intergenerational women's group. Rooted in the principles of Reform Judaism, our mission is to build a strong, compassionate, and socially conscious community focused on making a positive imprint on one another and the world through friendship and action. Celebrate the women in our community with events such as Sisters in the Sukkah, Sisterhood Challah Bakes, Rosh Chodesh Women's Gathering, volunteering, Sisterhood Shabbat, and more. Mitzvah Crew

Temple Emanuel's Caring Community is committed to fostering connections between members of all ages and needs. We are growing our team of community members who provide outreach to other congregants in times of need. From checking in with a phone call to delivering care packages and new baby baskets to making a meal for someone recovering from illness, these volunteers help make our community a real community. If you need help, just call us! The Ezra Network is an initiative of The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles to provide social services within the synagogues. The program brings a Jewish Family Service social worker, a Jewish Vocational Service job counselor, and a Bet Tzedek legal counselor to assist our community members in crisis—here at Temple Emanuel—for free! Community members seek out The Ezra Network's services for a variety of issues, including financial difficulties, housing resources, government benefits, caring for elderly family members, caring for family members with special needs or mental illness, and job loss and unemployment. BOOMERS AND BEYOND CHAIVILLAGELA PROGRAMMING Join Our Village! ChaiVillageLA is part of the rapidly growing Village Movement—we’re not a place; we’re a community led by adults who share their optimism, skills, support and expertise with each other to joyfully navigate the next steps in our lives. ChaiVillageLA is a collaborative program of Temple Emanuel and Temple Isaiah, grounded in Jewish values. Although based on the popular Village concept, ChaiVillageLA is the first and only synagogue-based Village. Every day, ChaiVillagers come together to create new possibilities for what’s next, providing each other with the programs, resources and support needed to live lives of purpose and growth. Members tell us that they feel energized by being a part of such a powerful, expansive community. Now 230 members strong, we are a very active community. We have current events sessions, a short story group, bridge games, walks around the park with a rabbi and trips to local museums and attractions. We’re member led, so members serve on committees, run classes and events, and help one another with check in calls, friendly visits and rides to the doctor. We help out both our temples and the wider community, assisting homeless families, students, and veterans.

Second Wednesday of the Month 10:45 am, Belle Chapel A monthly intellectual and social get-together for mature adults. Each Wisdom Circle begins with a special speaker followed by an informal lunch and concludes with a text study discussion with a clergy member. Sponsored by ChaiVillageLA; open to all temple members.

80's+ Salon

Monthly Gatherings Belle Chapel A special interest group of ChaiVillageLA for those members age 80 and above encourages members to learn together, share their life experiences and deepen their friendships.
