El viajero William Gabb escribió en 1867 que el lugar era habitado por tan solo veinte familias y aparte de la iglesia, todo lo demás solo eran chozas con jardines muy extensos donde se cultivaban “(...) miles de palmas de dátil, higueras, olivos, parras y granadas”. Las huestes de la revolución constitucionalista llegaron al pueblo en su camino de retirada al norte en 1913, tomando como cuartel la casa de la familia Arce. En 1942 se produjo un encuentro entre Lázaro Cárdenas, secretario de Defensa Nacional, y un grupo estadunidense que pretendía establecer una base militar en el pueblo, ante el hostigamiento del expresidente abandonaron ese intento de invadir la península nuevamente. La población sirvió de escenario en 2019 para la película “Polvo” del director y actor José María Yaspik, su familia paterna es nativa de San Ignacio y allí él vivió parte de su infancia

Only twenty families lived there, according to the traveler William Gabb, who noted in 1867 that everything else was merely shacks with extensive gardens where "(...) thousands of date palms, fig trees, olive trees, vines, and pomegranates" were grown. In 1913, the Constitutionalist Revolutionary forces secured the community on their route to the north, utilizing the Arce family home as their base of operations. In 1942, there was a meeting between Lázaro Cárdenas, Secretary of National Defence, and a group of Americans who planned to establish a military base in the town. These Americans were faced with the harassment of the former Mexican President and abandoned their intention to invade the peninsula once more. Then in 2019, the community was the backdrop for the film, "Polvo", by director José María Yaspik. His paternal family is native to San Ignacio, and he lived part of his childhood there.
