CONCEPT

The idea of a ‘Sponge Community’ is conceived democratize water to design for the landscape. The geometries created a spatial experience of a Play Scape where the environment allows the users to freely establish new forms of relations and meaning to the space. Disturbing and moving beyond how architecture is design, constructed and experience, digital manufacturing (3D printing construction) ushers the new era of architecture where this architecture will be designed, constructed and experienced.​ ​ ​

Ulu pandan River bridge as a linkway of both sides of the river. From Clementi to Sunset way THE SITE’S GEOGRAPHIC CONDITION ALLOWS WIND TO FLOW ALONG THE RIVER

Abundence wildlife like otters, tortoise, monitor lizazrds, crane.

SUN PATH DIAGRAM Singapore is located at a latitude of +1.3 (1°18'00''N) and longitude of +103.85 (103°51'00''E) The solstices, where one of the Earth’s poles has a maximum tilt towards the sun occurs twice in a year. The Summer Solstice occurs on 21 June while the Winter Solstice occurs on 21 December. The Equinox is when the sun is closest distance from the Equator. The sun approaches the Equinox twice a year and it Singapore, this occurs in March nd September. Due to Singapore’s proximity to the equator, the daylight timings do not differ much throughout the year.

PCN connects from dover to Ulu Pandan resevoir. This creates oppurtunity for greater accessibility.

CONCEPT

This architecture created by water is hard surface, the environment allows the users to freely establish new forms of relations and to give meaning to the space. The space is modified by the relationship of how a user establishes with it. Digital manufacturing ushering in a new era of architecture. Disrupting and moving beyond how architecture is designed, constructed and experienced. These spaces can only be created, design and documented digitally. Democratize water to design for the landscape. Water creates geometries that cannot be created by us, therefore, opportunity for spatial experiences of water has formed. Humans are invited to interact and engage with these spaces, to “be like water” and accessing the spaces like water. ​

WATER FINDS A WAY

To democratize water to design for the landscape. Water, as the architect created geometries represented with acetone as water on Blue Foam. Acetone is dripped in constant volumes on intersaction of grid.

Crevices merging with one another by making them bigger and deeper.

WATER FINDS A WAY

“Water finds a way�. Water fills the larger/deeper areas and when rain comes, the sponge garden retains water to reduce the speed of water runoff for evaporative cooling. Once it is dreid, it becomes park spaces for outdoor activities. The remaminig spaces forms habitable spaces for programs.


SPACE EXPLORATION WITH SITE CONTEXT

Water does not design like humans. Humans have to explore these spaces created by water. The user’s body can freely establish new forms of relations, direction and orientation, that interval of freedom results in the body givng meaning to the space.

CONCEPT ​ ​


BE LIKE WATER, TO BE FORMLESS AND SHAPELESS.

“Be like water” where users “become water and accesses the spaces like water, not like humans”. Users are invited to interact with the space that seem unconventional to them. This is a deconstructionist approach where the expectation of spaces is deconstructed. The Body gives meaning to the Space because without the Body, the Space has no meaning. Without the User creating experiences, the space is The User creates meaning as he uses the Space. There no chairs, there is only the act of Sitting.


ANTROPOMETRIC EXPLORATION

The space is modified by the relationship of how a user establishes with it. The user discover and invent spaces: a terracing walkway becomes an area where students gather to have their meal, the physical quality of a cocoon like space becomes a dwelling space. Users have to creatively find a space for his activity and give the space value by creating the conditions by which the surfaces becomes bed, tables, chairs etc.
