Tenkara USA releases the Hane Devoted to our philosophy of not releasing unnecessary products, we put off releasing a new rod until we felt we had something of value to offer. The Hane is our super-compact adventure tenkara rod and a tweak on a design we created years ago for Backpacking Light. This is a rod that should be in every person’s backpack.

tenkara - the book Daniel Galhardo publishes his much anticipated book on tenkara. In his book, Daniel shares the story of tenkara, a method of fishing that for centuries remained a seeming secret in Japan. Daniel takes readers along his journey of learning tenkara directly from the masters, while teaching readers all they need to know to fly-fish.

Tenkara USA adopts Boulder Canyon Tenkara USA “adopts miles 35 to 37 of Boulder Creek in Boulder Colorado.

Tenkara USA releases Sato and Rhodo Possibly the two best tenkara rods in the world, Tenkara USA continues to innovate in tenkara rod design by releasing two adjustable-length rods, the Sato and the Rhodo. Both have a triple-zoom feature which allows them to be fished at 3 lengths, and a patent-pending plug holder system.

Tenkara Summit The first “Tenkara Summit� was put together by Tenkara USA in West Yellowstone. Over 120 people attended, including Dr. Ishigaki who flew from Japan for the event.

Tenkara USA releases ITO zoom rod Striving to push the envelope with tenkara rod design, Tenkara USA releases the Ito, its first zoom rod with significant improvements over existing technology present in Japan. The Ito soon becomes the favorite rod of tenkara master Mr. Yuzo Sebata.

Daniel meets tenkara master Dr. Hisao Ishigaki The beginning of an important relationship in the world of tenkara. Daniel goes meet Dr. Ishigaki at an event taking place in the Catskills Fly Fishing Center and Museum. He’s immediately “adopted” by Dr. Ishigaki, who becomes his mentor and advisor.

Tenkara USA introduces tenkara outside of Japan Tenkara USA (www.tenkarausa.com) goes live with a complete array of tenkara rods, tenkara lines and tenkara flies, as well as the story and philosophy of tenkara. Tenkara USA was the first company to specialize in tenkara and introduce tenkara outside of Japan.
