“A MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN”
Veteran DE/OLB Cameron Wake Excited to Begin Next Chapter in Career By Jim Wyatt
CAMERON WAKE has a new NFL home, and he’s ready to get after quarterbacks with the Titans. “It’s a place that I have admired from afar – most recently we played each other in the longest game in NFL history,” a smiling Wake said after signing with the Titans in March, referring to the Titans-Dolphins game in Week One of the 2018 season. “It’s a tough, smart, disciplined team, and I think it fits right in with some of the things I like to think of that I bring to the table. 4
“It seems like a match made in heaven for me.” When free agency opened in March, the Titans signed Wake, a pass-rushing defensive end/outside linebacker who has 98 career sacks, all with the Miami Dolphins. Wake, 37, has posted double-digit sack totals in five of his 10 NFL seasons, including a 10.5-sack season in 2017. Wake recorded six sacks in 2018 while playing limited snaps. He recorded 360 total tackles, one interception, and 22 forced fumbles in addition to his

98 sacks during his time with the Dolphins. Wake’s 98 sacks are the second-most ever by a player in a Dolphins uniform, behind only Jason Taylor. Earlier in his career, Wake was motivated by being passed over by NFL teams. He decided to wear the No. 91 to remind himself NFL teams invited 90 players to minicamp that were better than him as he headed to the Canadian Football League. Now he wants to prove he’s still got it. “I’ve been old since I was 28,” Wake said with a smile. “Every year I am too old. Anything that’s happened, I’ve been injured, and it’s like “It’s over. He’s done. If I had nickel for every time I’d probably go buy a team. “It is not necessarily proving people wrong. I do what I do for people who believe. I don’t do it for the doubters, I do it for the people who believe in me. … I guess that chip has carried me – nobody wanted me back then, and you have to hit the reset button and go back at it and continue to be myself and that’s gotten me where I am. And it’s not going to change either.” Wake (6-3, 263) played in 146 games with 125 starts with the Dolphins. Wake is a five-time Pro Bowl selection (2010, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016) and a four-time Associated Press All-Pro (first team 2010 and 2012; second team 2014 and 2016). The Titans believe he’ll be a nice addition on a team with some young pass rushers, a group that includes rising second-year edge rusher Harold Landry. Wake is regarded as a hard-worker who will bring a veteran presence to the Titans. He’s also proven he can still get after the quarterback. Wake’s six sacks in 2018 came despite playing less than 50 percent of the team’s defensive snaps. Since 2006, Wake has posted the second highest pressure percentage (16.7 %) in the NFL, behind only Von Miller (17.1), according to Pro Football Focus. Wake generated 54 pressures on 313 pass-rushes in 2018, per PFF. On 517 defensive snaps last season, Wake recorded an overall grade of 81.6 and was among the league’s most productive pass rushers, per PFF. Wake not only has a heck of a resume, but he also has plenty of experience that should help the team’s younger players develop. “I was blessed, at the beginning of my career, being under some pretty good guys who played in this league, like Jason Taylor, Joey Porter, and guys like that, guys I had an opportunity to learn from and ask questions, be a sponge around,” Wake said. “That wisdom they’d gained from all the years they’d played at the time I was coming in, I grabbed whatever nuggets I could. “I’ve been fortunate to play in this league a long time and gained some of those nuggets myself. So be-
ing able to pass that on to whoever is upcoming in this league and on this team, it is something I think of as a responsibility, for the older players to make sure the guys coming up can be successful as well.” Wake, who began his NFL career with the Dolphins in 2009, racked up 14 sacks in 2010, 15 sacks in 2012, 11.5 sacks in 2014, and 11.5 sacks in 2016 before his 10.5-sack season in 2017. Wake started 14 games for the Dolphins in 2018, with 14 starts, and tallied 36 tackles, 17 quarterback hits, six sacks, five tackles for loss, and a pass deflection in addition to his six sacks. Before joining the Dolphins, Wake played two seasons in the Canadian Football League in 2007-08, and he recorded 39 sacks over those two seasons while earning Western Division All-Star honors as well as the Most Outstanding Defensive Player Award both years. Wake, who played at Penn State, initially joined the Giants in April 2015, but he was released before the season. After jumpstarting his career in the CFL, Wake’s NFL career took off, and the Titans now hope he’ll continue to make an impact in Tennessee. “One of my coaches always said, ball is ball, and it doesn’t matter whether you do it on the moon, on the grass,” Wake said. “At the end of the day, once you get across that line it’s football. It doesn’t really matter what color you are wearing or any of that stuff. “It all comes from inside, and obviously I wouldn’t be here if that recipe didn’t work. Every day I put on my helmet and I go out there and I put my best foot forward and I reach my potential and I still do that to this day. That’s not going to change.” TENNESSEE TITANS GAMEDAY

“I AM HOME”
Former Titans Lineman Kevin Mawae Enters Pro Football Hall of Fame By Jim Wyatt
THE WAIT FINALLY ENDED for former Titans offensive lineman Kevin Mawae, and it was worth it – he’s now in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Mawae was voted into the Hall of Fame the day before Super Bowl LIII, and he was enshrined in Canton earlier this month. “I was supposed to have my wife record (my reaction), but I threw my phone across the room,” Mawae said after learning the news. “And I think I had a higher vertical today than I did at the draft. “It’s overwhelming, it really is.” Mawae played 16 NFL seasons (1994-2009), including four seasons with the Titans (2006-09). He began his career with the Seahawks and also played with the Jets before retiring after the 2009 season in Tennessee. Mawae was named to eight All-Pro teams, and eight Pro Bowls during his career while playing in 241 career games. Prior to Hall of Fame weekend in previous years, Mawae got his hopes up, but twice before he was disappointed. This time, Mawae received good news. 22
Mawae became the first established Titan without connections to the Houston Oilers to be elected to the Hall of Fame. Randy Moss was also elected to the Hall of Fame, but played just eight games with the franchise during the second half of the 2010 season. “The history of the Tennessee Titans going all the way back to the Houston Oilers is significant,” Mawae said. “There’s a number of Hall of Famers and legendary coaches and teams. To be the guy that is strictly a Tennessee Titan, it is special. It is special for the state of Tennessee and the city of Nashville, and for the guys who are there now. We did some special things in the four years when I was there and I hope that I left a legacy there that the guys that come after me in that city and on that team would hope to achieve some of the things I did or hopefully make a bigger mark for themselves. “So it is not lost on me that … I am just a Tennessee Titan and not a Houston Oiler/Tennessee Titan. It was special. It was special to be a part of that organization and I am thankful. I am thankful to Jeff Fisher for bringing me there and for Mike Munchak.”

Former Titans offensive lineman Bruce Matthews, a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, told Titans Online he thought Mawae deserved to get in. “I gained a much greater appreciate for Kevin when he went to Tennessee and Mike Munchak coached him,’’ Matthews said. “I had known Kevin and played in the Pro Bowl with him. The thing I always appreciated about Kevin was he was a team-first guy. He would have been a teammate I would have enjoyed playing with. When I was playing and he was still at Seattle or the Jets, he is a guy that watched. I think he is definitely deserving.” Mawae blocked for Hall of Fame running back Curtis Martin with the Jets, and for running back Chris Johnson during his 2,006-yard season in Tennessee. According to Elias, Mawae played 90 games in which there was a 100-yard rusher, the most by any offensive lineman. “I wouldn’t be in the Hall of Fame if it wasn’t for him,’’ Martin said of Mawae. Kevin was more like a fullback playing center, and the feet that he had were unbelievable. He was just as quick as tight ends, the way he played. So we were able to have a much larger running package because of what he was able to do.” Earlier this month, Mawae recalled some of his most memorable moments in Tennessee. The 60-yard game-winning field goal by Rob Bironas to beat the Colts in 2006 came to mind. “That was a special victory for us,” he said. “I remember that game fondly.” He’ll never forget the 99-yard drive engineered by Vince Young in 2009, when the Titans beat the Cardinals on a touchdown pass to Kenny Britt on the final play. “That 99-yard walk-off ,” Mawae said. “That was a great game.” Johnson’s 2,006-yard season was special, too. Johnson reached the mark in Seattle, and the key offensive players for the Titans posed for a photo on the field after that game. “We were chasing Eric Dickerson’s record, and we almost got it,” Mawae said. “And that was the last game of my career, not counting the Pro Bowl, and it happened in Seattle, where I was drafted. So my whole career came full circle in that last game. … It is a memorable moment for me.” Mawae and Johnson were teammates for two seasons in Tennessee (2008-09). Johnson ran for 1,228 yards as a rookie, and then followed it up with the best year of his 10-year career. Johnson and a number of players from his 2,006-yard season made the trip to Canton to be with Mawae.
“He was the leader of the offensive line,” Johnson said. “We had our talks – the running back and the offensive line would meet up – and we’d watch these plays together. They knew how I liked to run certain plays, and I knew how they liked to block certain plays. It got to the point where we’d be in the room and you would hear Kevin Mawae correct another offensive lineman and be like: “You need to do this, because C.J. likes to do this or likes to do that.’ “He played so long, and the way that I saw him work and the way that I saw him play on the field, he’s so deserving.” TENNESSEE TITANS GAMEDAY

BACK TO SCHOOL SHOPPING SPREE Titans RB Derrick Henry Equips Local Students for New School Year By Jim Wyatt
TITANS RUNNING BACK Derrick Henry is looking forward to the start of the 2019 season. “It’s time to put the pads on and get this thing going,” Henry said. Before Henry turned his complete attention to football, however, he spent part of the last week of July in the community, with children. Henry teamed up with Academy Sports + Outdoors to get local Nashville children prepared for the upcoming school year with a back-to-school shopping spree at Academy in Mt. Juliet. He made his way through the aisles as 35 children from Boys & Girls Clubs of Middle Tennessee shopped for new back-to-school products such as backpacks, apparel, footwear, team sports equipment, and more with a $200 gift card. “It’s always fun to get time to get a chance to spend time with kids in the community, and let them get some things that they need,” Henry said. “I am glad to do it. It puts a smile on my face just as much as it does theirs. “I just want to be a great influence in the community, especially for the youth. … I want to be a blessing to all these kids. I am fortunate and happy to be in a situation to do this and I will continue to do it as long as I am living, as long as I am playing this sport, having this platform.” 24
Henry is in the process starting his own foundation (Two All) to “help people who need help.” LaQuinta McGhee, COO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Middle Tennessee, said the shopping spree with Henry was a surprise to the kids. Henry also helped with a back-to-school shopping spree for children last year before training camp. “I could see in their eyes – and how all of them borrowed a phone from their parents – how excited they were to see Derrick when he came in here,” McGhee said. “This is exciting for them, and it’s something they’ll always remember. When it comes time for Show and Tell, or a conversation to talk about their summer, they can definitely say they had a great summer because they were able to meet Derrick Henry of the Titans.” Henry, who is coming off a 1,059-yard season, hopes to start off the 2019 season the way he finished in 2018. Henry ran for 625 yards and eight touchdowns in December in 2018. “Get better,” Henry said. “Get better each and every day and compete, learn, and grow, develop even more. I want to get better (in camp) and be ready for the season.”

BACK TO SCHOOL BACKPACKS Delanie Walker Hosts ‘Back 2 School Blitz” for Students at Napier Elementary By Gary Glenn
DELANIE WALKER and the Delanie Walker Gives Back Foundation recently hosted the three-time Pro Bowl tight end’s annual “Back 2 School Blitz” for students at Napier Elementary in Nashville. Walker’s visit to the school during the 2019 NFL Draft inspired him to have its students be recipients of his backpack giveaway this year. “I pick a center or community to give away backpacks and school supplies to students with families that need it the most,” Walker said. “To have an opportunity to meet these kids and put smiles on their faces, that’s what I care about the most.” The kind gesture was very much appreciated by Napier Elementary School Principal, Dr. Watechia Lawless.
“This is an amazing opportunity for our students to have someone like Delanie Walker come to our school and pull for them,” Dr. Watechia said. “Providing these amazing backpacks makes all the difference to them. You should see how proud they were to put the backpacks on with those supplies. They’re ready to start the year.” The Delanie Walker Gives Back Foundation aims to provide inner city and low-income children with educational opportunities and resources to reach their full potential and beat the odds. Other major community outreach programs of the foundation include Back to School COOL, Delanie’s Imagination Stations, and College Bound. TENNESSEE TITANS GAMEDAY

CHRIS JOHNSON RETIRES A TITAN With 7,965 yards, Johnson departed Tennessee as the franchise’s No. 3 all-time rusher behind Eddie George (10,009) and Earl Campbell (8,574) By Jim Wyatt
FIRST, Chris Johnson wants to get one thing straight – he’s still fast, and he could still perform at a high level in the NFL if given the opportunity. “I feel like if I trained the right way, I’d still be in the 4.2s,” said the former Titans running back, who was clocked at a time of 4.24 at the NFL Combine in 2008. And yes, the guy who became known simply as “CJ2K” insists he could still rack up yards in the NFL even after being out of the league for a year. “I know for sure I’d get 1,000 yards if I laced them up,” a smiling Johnson said. “Shoot, that’s not even a question. You put me in an offense where I’m the starting back, there’s no way I wouldn’t get 1,000 yards. I could still do it, but it’s time to move on to the next situation.” 26
Johnson, the electrifying back who played for the Titans from 2008-2013, sign a one-day contract to retire from the NFL as a Titan back in April. Johnson announced his retirement from the league in November, but he said he wanted to go out as a Titan. Johnson played one season with the Jets (2014) and three seasons with the Cardinals (2015-17) after leaving Tennessee, a place he said felt like home after being drafted in the first round of the 2008 NFL Draft out of East Carolina. Johnson traveled to Nashville to sign his one-day contract at Saint Thomas Sports Park the day before the NFL Draft. “Tennessee, that’s the first organization that gave me a chance to make my dreams come true,” Johnson said. “I have so many great memories in Tennessee and
TENNESSEE TITANS GAMEDAY
Chris Johnson.indd 26

was able to do so many things with the Titans. It’s an organization I always want to be considered a part of. “I grew up in Tennessee. I went from being a kid to a grown man here. I might have grown up as a kid in (my hometown of) Orlando, but I was still a kid in Nashville when I got there. The team and the city, they’ve always shown me so much love. I have great memories from my days with the Titans, so many on the field and in the city. I’ve always loved Tennessee, and I always will because I’ve always felt so much love.” With 7,965 yards, Johnson departed Tennessee as the franchise’s No. 3 all-time rusher behind Eddie George (10,009) and Earl Campbell (8,574). Over the six seasons, only Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson (8,774) had more rushing yards than Johnson. Johnson’s run with the Titans was highlighted by a 2009 season when he became just the sixth back in NFL history to eclipse the 2,000-yard mark in a season. Johnson was named the NFL’s offensive player of the year that season, when he finished with 2,006 yards and set an NFL record with 2,509 yards from scrimmage. “I know for sure I could still play,” Johnson said. “Before I (announced my retirement), having talks with my agent about what we were going to do, I thought if I played one more year the only team I would come back and play for was Tennessee. I would love to have finished where I started. We had some discussions
with the team, and they weren’t looking to go in that direction. There were no hard feelings, and it didn’t work out, so I decided to retire.” Johnson, who compiled 35 100-yard rushing games in six seasons with the Titans, including 24 games when he racked up 125 or more, said he loved every minute of his days in the NFL, with the Titans. He finished his NFL career with 9,651 rushing yards and 55 touchdowns. He also caught 307 passes for 2,255 yards and nine touchdowns. Today, Johnson has twin boys, and a one-year-old daughter. He makes his home in Orlando. Johnson admittedly misses football, but he knows it’s the right time to hang it up. In his mind, his playing career went by as fast as his blazing speed on the field -- but that’s a good thing. “It definitely was a blast – it was fun,” Johnson said with a smile. “I always tell people you can tell how much fun you have doing something by how fast it goes by. When stuff goes by real fast, it means you’re having fun, and it seems like yesterday I got drafted and came in and met with Coach (Jeff) Fisher and coach (Mike) Heimerdinger. Now I look up and I’m done, I’m retired. But it was a great time. “I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss it. I do miss it, but it’s time to go on to the next chapter and see what’s going to be next in my book.” TENNESSEE TITANS GAMEDAY

TITANS OWNER GIVING BACK TO COMMUNITY Amy Adams Strunk Distributes $450,000 in Grant Funding to 10 Local Non-Profits as “We Stand For” Campaign Takes Center Stage By Jim Wyatt
A YEAR AGO, the Titans launched the “We Stand For” campaign, designed to bring the public’s attention to the causes that are important to the team’s players, coaches and executives. Last month, it was on full display — along with some big checks handed out by controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk. Several of the team’s leaders, including general manager Jon Robinson, head coach Mike Vrabel and three players – tight end Delanie Walker, linebacker Wesley Woodyard, and defensive lineman Jurrell Casey – were on hand for a community engagement panel at Nissan Stadium, where they discussed the causes that are dear to them. 28
Then, Amy Adams Strunk handed out $450,000 in grant funding to 10 local non-profit organizations at the end of a luncheon. “Mike said, “We’re all family,’ and what they stand for, we stand for,” Strunk said. “We want to be a part of the community and be a part of the change, and just be good Samaritans. (Our players) take their feelings about this community (seriously) – they’re so strong. And they just want to do what they can to make it a better place. Nashville is great, but we can always be better. “Today was fun. It was a surprise (to the check recipients) and that made it even more fun. … It just means so much that we have taken on different causes now
TENNESSEE TITANS GAMEDAY
Community Panel.indd 28

that maybe we wouldn’t have thought about if our players hadn’t brought them to us. I think it’s a great thing.” The grants handed out on July 30 ranged from $25,000 to $100,000 and support non-profit organizations in the spaces of education, African American history and culture, social justice, diversionary and re-entry programs, immigrant outreach and domestic violence and sexual assault. The $100,000 grant recipients: • National Museum of African American Music • NAACP Freedom Fund • The $50,000 grant recipients: • Community Achieves by Metro Nashville Public Schools • Nashville GRAD The $25,000 grant recipients: • Project Return • Davidson County Drug Court Program (DC4) • Thistle Farms • Sexual Assault Center • Nashville International Center for Empowerment • Conexion Americas Grant recipients were selected not only on merit but also based on their affiliation with a cause identified as important to a player, coach or executive through the team’s “We Stand For” campaign. The organization’s hope for the “We Stand For” campaign is to foster positive dialogue around the community work of its players and executives and raise awareness for the associated causes. The campaign was launched to give Titans players, coaches and front office a platform to better showcase causes and charities that are important to them, and to foster positive dialogue around their community and the work of their associated charities. Along with his wife Ryann, the Caseys established the Casey Fund, a nonprofit dedicated to addressing the needs of at-risk youth as well as formerly incarcerated individuals by raising money for re-entry programs, inner-city youth programs, mentoring, and halfway houses. Casey said the organization’s work in the community – and Strunk’s generosity – has inspired everyone to do more. “It’s unbelievable,” said Casey, the 2018 Titans recipient of the Walter Payton Man of the Year award. “For you to have an owner and an organization to do something this incredible in the community, something we fight for all the time. … For Amy to do something like this, I am baffled, I am speechless. She has done something so amazing it touches my heart down deep.” TENNESSEE TITANS GAMEDAY

INTRODUCING THE 2019 TITANS CHEERLEADERS New look squad to focus on athleticism, community outreach
THE TENNESSEE TITANS are proud to introduce our 2019 Cheerleaders, a new era that symbolizes the elevation of our game day entertainment at Nissan Stadium. Cheerleading has played a vital role for the team since the organization’s move to Tennessee in 1997, and we are excited to bring back this dynamic style of performance that was used in the early days of the Titans. With a greater focus on athleticism, community outreach and professional development, this is sure to heighten what will prove to be a phenomenal 2019 season! 32

AMY ADAMS STRUNK Owner and Co-Chairman, Board of Directors
AMY ADAMS STRUNK assumed the role of controlling owner of the team in March 2015. She also serves as the co-chairman of the franchise’s Board of Directors. In her time as controlling owner Strunk has transformed the franchise through her vision, commitment and decisions that have set the team on an ascending trajectory. She hired Jon Robinson as General Manager and Mike Vrabel as head coach, while also installing Steve Underwood to the position of President and CEO. Additionally, she has annually committed significant resources to upgrade Nissan Stadium and the team’s practice facility, Saint Thomas Sports Park. Strunk also continues to grow the administrative staff for the franchise with significant additions across different departments. All those changes translated to success on the field as the Titans went from a threewin team in 2015, to 9-7 records in the past three campaigns and a playoff win at Kansas City in 2017. The playoff victory was the first for the franchise since 2003, and the three consecutive winning seasons are first in the “Titans” era (1999-present). In the spring of 2018, she collaborated with Nashville city officials to secure the 2019 NFL Draft for downtown Nashville. By any measure, the 2019 NFL Draft was 36
the most successful in NFL history, drawing a record 600,000 fans to downtown Nashville over the three-day event and setting television ratings records. The Draft resulted in $224 million in economic impact and $133 million in direct spending for the Tennessee economy, which were both NFL high-water marks. In June, Strunk was honored by the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame as the “Tennessean of the Year,” for her role in bringing the NFL Draft to Nashville and her work to transform the franchise to a consistent winner. One of the daughters of Titans franchise founder K.S. “Bud” Adams, Jr., Strunk was raised on football and is proud of her father’s role in founding the American Football League as well as the decades of leadership he provided not only to the Titans franchise, but also to the National Football League. Her goal is to build upon that legacy and establish the Titans as one of the league’s elite franchises. An independent businesswoman for more than 30 years, Strunk is the owner and president of both Kenada Farms and the Little River Oil and Gas Company. She has been significantly involved in the family’s farming and ranching businesses, including serving as the vice president of Bud Adams Ranches, Inc. These ventures pro-

vided her valuable knowledge about customer service as well as the opportunity to manage a diverse range of employees and business operations, and these experiences have shaped her management style. “I believe in hiring good people and letting them do their jobs,” said Strunk. “Everything should revolve around what’s best for the Titans and not around the owner. While I talk frequently with the leaders of the Titans as I do with all of our family’s companies, the people in our football operations need the control and latitude necessary to create an exciting and competitive team. “Our business staff needs the same freedom in order for our organization to reach its full potential and to continue to create a first-class fan experience at Nissan Stadium. Decisions will always be made based on what is the best for the team to reach our goals of becoming one of the elite franchises of the NFL and enriching the communities of Nashville and middle Tennessee. “Nashville is one of the most dynamic and rapidly growing cities in the nation with a very promising future,” said Strunk. “We are proud to be a part of Nashville and Middle Tennessee, and we want the Titans to be a leader in providing opportunities for people and businesses in the city and the region to achieve their dreams.” Engaged in the process of improving all aspects of the franchise, Strunk has the best interest of the football team and the fans on her mind as she makes her decisions. As evidence of that engagement, the Titans have become one of the best home teams in the NFL, posting a 16-4 home mark in the last 20 games leading into the 2019 season. In 2016, Strunk was appointed to the NFL’s Hall of Fame Committee. Her appointment continues a family legacy, as her father was a long-time member of the committee. Additionally, in 2017, Strunk was named to the Board of Trustees for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In 2018, she added an appointment to the NFL’s Super Bowl and Major Event Advisory Committee. A graduate of the University of Texas with a degree in history, Strunk is an avid horse enthusiast whose other interests include farming, ranching, tennis and a variety of other outdoor activities. She also served as a volunteer coach of both the boys and girls varsity tennis teams at her daughter’s high school. Never one to turn down a challenge, during the 2017 offseason, Strunk accepted an invitation to skydive with members of the Army’s Golden Knights to kick off draft week. Strunk is married to her husband Bill. She has three children — Tracy, Tommy, and Blanche, who are all avid sports fans and outdoor enthusiasts. TENNESSEE TITANS GAMEDAY

JON ROBINSON
Executive Vice President/General Manager JON ROBINSON enters his fourth season as the team’s general manager. He was hired in January of 2016 and was promoted in 2017 to executive vice president/general manager. Robinson’s work in his first three years helped the team go from three wins in the season prior to his arrival to three consecutive 9-7 seasons and a Divisional Round playoff finish following the 2017 campaign. He became the fifth general manager in franchise history to have the team in the playoffs within his first two full seasons. Robinson also is the only general manger during the “Titans” era (1999-present) to oversee three consecutive winning seasons. Robinson turned over 80 percent of the Titans roster in his first three years on the job. At the end of the 2018 campaign, 43 players on the club’s 53-man ros40
ter (81.1 percent) were added after Robinson arrived in Tennessee—27 free agents, two players acquired via trade, one waiver pickups and 13 draft picks. An additional nine players he acquired (six free agents, two draft picks and one waiver claim) ended 2018 on injured reserve. In 2019, Robinson added key veterans to bolster the roster, including five-time Pro Bowl OLB Cameron Wake, G Rodger Saffold and WR Adam Humphries. Additionally, he engineered a trade that brought QB Ryan Tannehill to the Titans from Miami. Robinson also was able to keep two key contributors on the roster, re-signing S Kenny Vaccaro and two-time Pro Bowl punter Brett Kern. On draft day, Robinson added Mississippi State DL Jeffery Simmons in the first round and Ole Miss WR A. J. Brown in the second round.

Early in the 2018 unrestricted free agent signing period, Robinson targeted a pair of former New England Patriots: CB Malcolm Butler and RB Dion Lewis. During the 2018 NFL Draft, Robinson used trades to move up three times as he selected linebackers Rashaan Evans and Harold Landry. During the 2017 offseason, Robinson used free agency to address needs on defense and special teams. Most notably, he spearheaded deals for CB Logan Ryan (New England), S Johnathan Cyprien (Jacksonville) and special teams Pro Bowler Brynden Trawick (Oakland). In the 2017 NFL Draft, Robinson spent first-round picks on WR Corey Davis (fifth overall) and CB Adoree’ Jackson (18th overall). It marked the first time the franchise had a pair of first-round draft selections since 1987. Overall, the members of the 2017 draft class combined for 76 games played and 42 starts as rookies. In his first year as an NFL general manager, Robinson’s leadership and decision-making helped the Titans triple their win total from the previous season, finishing 9-7 in 2016 after a 3-13 finish in 2015. The six-win improvement tied for the most in franchise history (1967 and 1974) and doubled the previous club benchmark for the most wins in the first year under a new general manager (three by Bum Phillips in 1975). Within the first four months at his post, Robinson pulled the trigger on several key personnel decisions. On March 9, 2016, he made his first major acquisition, swapping fourth-round draft picks with the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for RB DeMarco Murray. The trade provided major dividends in 2016, as Murray led the AFC and ranked third in the NFL with 1,287 rushing yards. Around the same time, Robinson began to work the free agent market. Center Ben Jones and WR Rishard Matthews highlighted the haul, and both were instrumental in helping to transform the Titans offense into the 11th-ranked unit in the NFL in 2016. Jones started all 16 games and keyed a rushing attack that ranked third in the league, while Matthews set career highs with 65 receptions (tied for the team lead), a teamhigh 945 receiving yards and a team-high nine touchdown receptions. The latter number tied for sixth in the NFL and tied for ninth in franchise history. On April 14, 2016, two weeks before the NFL Draft, Robinson and the Titans dealt the first overall pick to the Los Angeles Rams in one of the biggest trades in recent NFL history. The Titans gave up the No. 1 pick and a fourth-rounder in order to receive the 15th overall pick, two second-rounders and a third-rounder in 2016, plus the Rams’ first- and third-round picks in TENNESSEE TITANS GAMEDAY

2017. From 1990–2015, there were seven trades involving the No. 1 overall pick, but this was the first since 2004, when the San Diego Chargers selected Eli Manning with the first pick and dealt his rights to the New York Giants. The Titans had their hands at one point or another on 17 selections in the 2016 draft due to five different trades (including one trade in 2015), and in the end, they ended up with a class of 10 players, including four of the top 45 picks. Robinson swung a draft-day trade with the Cleveland Browns to move back up to the eighth slot to choose Michigan State tackle Jack Conklin. All 10 members of Robinson’s first draft class played in at least one game in 2016. They accumulated a total of 110 games played and 38 starts, including 16 starts at right tackle by Conklin. The eighth-overall pick capped his successful rookie campaign by being named first-team All-Pro by Associated Press. Other rookies in 2016 who made significant contributions included second-round RB Derrick Henry, third-round S Kevin Byard and fifth-round WR Tajaé Sharpe. Byard earned first-team All-Pro honors and a Pro Bowl berth in his second season. Robinson arrived in Tennessee with a wide range of experience from working his way up on the personnel side of the NFL. From 2014–2015, he served as director of player personnel for the Buccaneers and oversaw both college and pro departments as the team rebuilt its roster. The 2015 Buccaneers draft class made a significant impact, including four rookie starters: QB Jam42
eis Winston, OT Donovan Smith, G Ali Marpet and LB Kwon Alexander. Prior to joining Tampa Bay, Robinson spent 12 years with the New England Patriots, including his last five years (2009-13) as the director of college scouting. In the five years heading up their college scouting, the Patriots added a number of key components to their roster that won the Super Bowl in 2014, including WR Julian Edelman, DB Devin McCourty, TE Rob Gronkowski, OT Nate Solder and DE Chandler Jones. He joined the Patriots as an area scout in 2002, a role he served for four seasons. Robinson then spent two years (2006-07) as a regional scout, before being promoted to assistant director of college scouting in 2008 and then director of college scouting in 2009. In his time scouting for the Patriots the team won 10 division titles, four conference titles and two Super Bowls (2003, 2004). Robinson played three years at Southeast Missouri State as a defensive lineman after starting his college career at the Air Force Academy. Following his college career as a player, he spent one season (1998) coaching at his alma mater and three years (1999-2001) coaching at Nicholls State. A native of Union City, Tenn., Robinson and his wife, Jaimie, have two daughters, Taylor and Bailey. He and his wife are deeply involved in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), as the disease affects their oldest daughter, Taylor. In 2018, the Robinsons chaired the JDRF Gala in Nashville which raised over 1.8 million dollars for diabetes research.

MIKE VRABEL Head Coach
MIKE VRABEL was hired as head coach of the Titans on Jan. 20, 2018. He became the 19th head coach in franchise history. In his first season as a head coach, Vrabel guided the Titans to a 9-7 record and to within one game of a playoff berth, all while navigating one of the NFL’s toughest schedules. The Titans played a league-high nine games during the regular season against seven eventual playoff teams, and their four wins against playoff clubs tied for the most in the league. Only New England, the Los Angeles Rams and Carolina had as many. The Titans committed only 82 penalties in 2018. Not only was that number the best in franchise history over a 16-game season, it was the lowest total by an NFL team since 2014. The Titans improved from having the 13th-ranked NFL defense in 2017 to an eighth-overall ranking in 2018 (333.4 yards allowed per game). They finished third in scoring defense at 18.9 points allowed per game, recording their best mark since 2008. The 2018 Titans defense also ranked second in the red zone 44
(44.7 touchdown percentage), 10th on third down (36.6 percent), sixth in passing defense (216.9 yards per game), second in touchdowns allowed (32) and first in fourth-quarter defense (65.9 yards per game). The 2018 Titans offense relied heavily upon a strong running attack. Averaging 126.4 rushing yards per game, the team upgraded from the NFL’s 15th-ranked rushing offense the year before he arrived to the seventh-ranked rushing attack in 2018. Vrabel ascended quickly to his position as a head coach following a 14-year playing career as a linebacker with the Pittsburgh Steelers (1997-2000), New England Patriots (2001-08) and Kansas City Chiefs (2009-10). He spent three years as an assistant coach at Ohio State (2011-13) and four years on the Houston Texans staff (2014-17), including 2017 as the defensive coordinator, before he was hired to his current post by Titans controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk. Vrabel’s accomplishments as a player included three Super Bowl wins (2001, 2003 and 2004), one Pro Bowl selection (2007) and an All-Pro honor (2007). He

appeared in 206 NFL games and totaled 57 sacks, 496 tackles, 11 interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), 20 forced fumbles and nine fumble recoveries. A cerebral and versatile athlete, he also saw action as a tight end and totaled 10 touchdown receptions. Additionally, his teams advanced to the playoffs eight times (20 postseason games), with Vrabel recording eight postseason sacks and two additional postseason touchdown receptions. Vrabel has spent his football life around accomplished leaders. After entering the NFL as a player in 1997, he played or coached under Bill Belichick, Bill Cowher, Romeo Crennel, Urban Meyer and Bill O’Brien. He gleaned attributes from each that helped form his philosophies as a head coach. Upon arriving in Tennessee, Vrabel stated: “We want to build a culture around winning, competitiveness and toughness. Everything we do is going to be geared towards winning and being physical. We want to prepare our players so they know what to do, which will allow them to play fast and aggressive.” Vrabel likewise made his own indelible impression on the same group of coaches. Upon the trade of Vrabel from the Patriots to the Chiefs in 2009, Belichick, who coached Vrabel his entire time in New England, made this comment: “Mike Vrabel epitomizes everything a coach could seek in a professional football player: toughness, intelligence, playmaking, leadership, versatility and consistency at the highest level. Behind the scenes, Mike’s wit and personality is one of the things we have all enjoyed about coming to work every day. The toughest aspect of my job is the day I stop coaching

people like Mike, who did everything in his power to contribute to team success. Of all the players I have coached in my career, there is nobody I enjoyed working with more than Mike.” Vrabel joined the Titans after four seasons with O’Brien at the Houston Texans, spending the first three seasons (2014-16) coaching linebackers and one year (2017) as the team’s defensive coordinator. During his time in Houston, the Texans built one of the top defenses in the NFL and experienced tremendous success as a team, earning division titles in 2015 and 2016. O’Brien had this to say on Vrabel: “When you are around guys like Mike you know that it is inevitable that he is going to be a head coach. He is a great leader, and he did an excellent job for us
developing players, coaching the defense. He is a very, very hard worker, and he has a really good presence about him. He cares about people, and he has a great family … When you walk into the room in front of a team, you have to have ‘it,’ and he’s got ‘it.’” In 2017, Vrabel’s first year as a defensive coordinator, the Texans finished the campaign with 19 players on injured reserve. Despite the setbacks, he led the defense to the fifth-best third-down percentage in the NFL and a franchise-record 3.97 yards per carry by opponents. Houston also had 18 different players record at least half a sack and 26 players tally at least one tackle for loss. As the Texans linebackers coach from 2014-16, Vrabel helped mold several top-notch performers TENNESSEE TITANS GAMEDAY

within his position group, including Jadeveon Clowney, Whitney Mercilus, Benardrick McKinney and Brian Cushing. During those three seasons, the Texans defense ranked third in the NFL in yards allowed per game (319.9) and net passing yards (218.4). Houston also ranked first in third-down defense (33.6 percent), fourth in opponent completion percentage (59.5) and sixth in points allowed per game (19.8). The 2016 Texans ranked number one in the NFL – for the first time in franchise history – in total defense, surrendering only 301.3 yards per game. The defense also gave up the fewest first downs (17.0) per game and second-fewest net passing yards (201.6) per game in the league. Clowney, Mercilus and McKinney all earned second-team All-Pro honors, while Clowney was named to the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career after posting personal bests with 52 tackles, six sacks, 16 tackles for loss and 17 quarterback hits. Mercilus led the team in sacks for the first time in his career with 7.5 quarterback takedowns and tied for the NFL lead with four defensive fumble recoveries. McKinney led the team with a career-high 129 tackles and became the second player in franchise history with over 100 tackles and five sacks in a season. The 2015 Texans had the top third-down defense in the NFL, allowing a 28.5 percent conversion rate, which was the lowest percentage in franchise history and the lowest by any NFL team since the 2003 Titans (27.7 percent). The 2015 defense also set a franchise mark with 45 sacks – 22.5 of which came from Vrabel’s linebacking corps. The 2015 squad also finished third in the NFL in net yards 46

(310.2) and net passing yards (210.4) allowed per game and tied for seventh in points allowed per game (19.6). Cushing’s 110 tackles led the linebacking corps and were the third-highest mark of his career. Mercilus enjoyed the best year of his career as he set a personal high with 12 sacks. Prior to joining the NFL coaching ranks, Vrabel transitioned immediately from an NFL player to college coach. He started as the linebacker coach at Ohio State in 2011 and coached the defensive line from 2012–2013. In 2012, the Buckeyes finished the season undefeated at 12-0, and Vrabel was named Big Ten Recruiter of the Year by ESPN.com. That same season, he coached four Ohio State
defensive linemen who were either drafted into the NFL or signed free agent contracts. Vrabel was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the third round (91st overall) of the 1997 NFL Draft after playing four years at Ohio State (1993-96). With the Buckeyes, he was a dominant performer, earning back-to-back All-American honors and becoming the first two-time winner of the Big Ten Conference Defensive Lineman of the Year Award (1995 and 1996). He graduated from Ohio State with a degree in exercise science. A native of Akron, Ohio, Vrabel attended Walsh Jesuit High School. He and his wife, Jennifer, have two sons: Tyler and Carter.

A MESSAGE FROM OWNERSHIP
DEAR FRIENDS, Giving back has always been important in our family. It is with great pride that we share with you some of the community events and initiatives in which we participated this year. We are proud of the overall impact our organization has made, and the following are a few of the highlights: • Launching We Stand For in support of our players and their causes and charities • Partnering with the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association to bring the InSideOut Initiative to Tennessee, a model that works to shift the focus of high school athletics away from the current “win-at-all-costs” culture and re-define the role of interscholastic sports in the lives of students and communities • Through a shelter pet adoption campaign, helping the Nashville Humane Association clear their shelter for Christmas for the first time in their history On behalf of the Adams family and the entire Tennessee Titans organization, we would like to say thank you. Thank you to our fans, our partners and our community for the support we receive that allows us to enrich the quality of life within the areas we live and work. Titan Up!

TENNESSEAN OF THE YEAR Titans Owner Amy Adams Strunk Honored as 2019 Tennessean of the Year by Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame
TITANS CONTROLLING OWNER Amy Adams Strunk received a standing ovation at the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame banquet in June while being honored as the 2019 Tennessean of the Year. After a video played recognizing her work in the state – from helping bring the 2019 NFL Draft to Nashville to her generosity in the community to the resurgence of her football team – Strunk gave thanks to football fans in the state, stating she was honored to receive the award on a night when the 2019 Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame class was inducted. The star-studded class included Kippy Brown, David Cutcliffe, Charles Davis, Kara Lawson, Peyton Manning, George Taliaferro, Bob Tillman, Kimberly Anne Valek and Patrick Willis. “I am just awed when I look at the inductees and what they did in their careers,” Strunk said. “I am just happy to be here and I’m so appreciative.” The Tennessean of the Year award “honors an individual or organization that has made significant 56
contributions to our society through sports or other methods, demonstrating strong character and high profile leadership.” The Tennessean of the Year award was first awarded by the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame in 1982. The award is not bestowed each year; only when people are deemed worthy.

NFL DRAFT A SMASHING SUCCESS IN NASHVILLE Sets Record with 600,000 Fans in Attendance, 47.5 Million Viewers WHEN THE 2019 NFL DRAFT was awarded to Nashville, it was expected to be a success in Music City. But no one could have predicted the record-setting week that was to come. The Draft easily shattered records for attendance, as over 600,000 fans filled the streets of Nashville for the three-day event. The NFL and the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp announced it generated a record $133 million in direct spending -- a 79 percent increase over the $74 million at the 2018 Dallas event. The economic impact was another record-breaker at $224 million, also a 79 percent increase over the $125 million in 2018. In April, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell praised Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk for her role in bringing the 2019 NFL Draft to the city. “While I am proud to have been involved, the people of Tennessee were the true stars of the show and I want to thank every single person who touched the event,” Strunk said. “They say it takes a village, but this event, it took an amazing city and a great state to come together and throw one of the biggest parties in NFL history.” With a combined 3.9 HH TV rating and average of 6.1M TV and digital viewers, the 2019 NFL Draft was 58
the highest-rated and most-watched Draft ever, breaking records established just a year ago. In total, all NFL Draft telecasts combined to reach more than 47.5 million television viewers over the three-day event, up 5 percent vs. 2018. Many of those in Nashville not attending the NFL Draft in-person were watching from home, as the market combined for a 10.6 HH rating – up 104 percent versus Nashville last year, and up 74 percent versus the 2018 host city. “The 2019 NFL Draft was a tremendous continuation of the celebration of the NFL’s 100th season and an opportunity to welcome the next generation of stars,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. “Dramatic and emotional storylines played out in cities across the country with the energetic host city of Nashville serving as a breathtaking backdrop to hundreds of thousands of passionate fans who lined the streets and enjoyed a unique NFL Draft Experience. We congratulate our newest players and their families and thank the Tennessee Titans, the Nashville Convention and Visitors Corp., the City of Nashville, the volunteers, and everyone who made the Draft such a memorable, entertaining, and successful experience.”

TITANS CARAVAN It’s All About Saying Thank You
THE TENNESSEE TITANS conduct an annual Caravan that travels throughout Tennessee, southern Kentucky and northern Alabama. We’ve visited nearly 400 cities in four states and made nearly 500 total stops. We’ve traveled more than 51,000 total miles and taken thousands of pictures. Our players have signed tens of thousands of autographs and shaken more than 250,000 hands at no cost to our fans. Why? Because we absolutely love our fans! That’s the story behind the long history of the Tennessee Titans Caravan. It’s about bringing the Tennessee Titans out to the fans of the mid-south to say thank you for your support.

SCHOOL VISITS
Titans Making Impact on Elementary and Middle School Students THE TITANS SCHOOL PROGRAM — implemented at both the middle and elementary school level — is focused on promoting the NFL’s PLAY 60 and Fuel Up to PLAY 60 campaign. During an assembly, Titans players share their personal story and the importance of making good choices, staying focused, making homework a priority before outside activities, staying in school, and listening to their parents and teachers. The players also stress the importance of healthy eating and leading an active lifestyle. Following the assembly, select students — nominated by their schools for leadership, grades and behavior — are invited to a special meet-and-greet opportunity. Tennessee State Parks began a partnership with the Titans school program in spring 2012 and has added further educational elements to the program that include displaying of bald eagles, red-tailed hawks, owls and other animals in the care of Tennessee State Park rangers. There are 54 state parks across Tennessee and any one of them is a great place to be active. Additional partners of the Titans school program include the State of Tennessee Department of Health, the American Heart Association and the Southeast United Dairy Industry Association. 66

Titans Spread Cheer, Visit Saint Thomas Health Patients THE TITANS HOSPITAL PROGRAM is a long-standing tradition the team implemented in 1999 where players visit with Saint Thomas Health patients who are receiving care ranging from joint replacement to minimally invasive surgical procedures including heart transplants to families who are welcoming a newborn babies. Visits include the hospitals located in Davidson and Rutherford counties, where many patients are season ticket holders, making the moments even more special. Players also visit a 40-bed JCAHO-accredited nursing home in Hickman County, where senior adults receive extended care. Saint Thomas Health is a family of Tennessee hospitals and physician practices united by a single mission: to provide spiritually centered, holistic care that sustains and improves the health of the communities they serve. As a part of Ascension Health, the largest not-for-profit health care system in the United States, they are committed to healing and dedicated to service, especially to persons who are poor or needy, reflecting the spiritual core of their mission, vision and values. 68

LIVING UNITED
Titans, United Way Team Up for Community Initiatives TITAN UP FOR TOTS
A cornerstone community partner of the NFL and the Titans, United Way brings people and organizations together to create a community where individuals, families and neighborhoods thrive. The Titans and United Way of Metro Nashville teamed up to host the 5th Annual Titan Up for Tots Community Baby Shower in June. At team headquarters, players, coaches, staff and cheerleaders assembled 3,500 diaper bags to distribute to at-risk mothers throughout the Nashville community. A total of 10,000 diaper bags have been delivered since the inception of the event in 2015.
STUFF THE BUS
This year’s Stuff the Bus campaign provided 11,000 Metro Nashville public school students with brand new backpacks to start the school year off right. Prior to distributing the backpacks, close to 1,000 volunteers gathered at Nissan Stadium to fill the backpacks with brand new school supplies. Teachers at 14 schools also received boxes full of supplies for the school new year. 74

TITANS SPELLING BEE
Titans Host Regional Spelling Bee Annually at Nissan Stadium FORTY-EIGHT elementary and middle school students, along with more than 200 spectators, including parents, teachers and friends arrived at Nissan Stadium to compete in one of the nation’s oldest and most iconic competitions: the spelling bee. The fourth annual Tennessee Titans Regional Spelling Bee showcased the talents of the brightest students across 51 counties in middle and west Tennessee. More than 130 schools registered to participate in 2019. To qualify for the regional com-
petition, each student won their school-level spelling bee and also scored in the top 50 of an online, semi-final test that included both spelling and vocabulary questions. Competition was strong, with students correctly spelling words like: · Schipperke · Bobbejaan · Nachtmusik · Balalaika · Pfeffernuss Surviving 15 rounds and more than four grueling hours of competition, Jack Parker of Fred J Page Middle School in Franklin took first
place. Keller Smith of Huntingdon Middle School in west Tennessee placed second. As the top two spellers, both earned an all-expense-paid trip to compete in the 2019 Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. in late May. The competition is broken up into multiple days, with the final rounds aired live on ESPN. For more information on the national competition and to eventually see a list of the qualifying students from all 50 states and several territories, visit www. spellingbee.com. NISSAN STADIUM
Home of the Titans Since Inaugural 1999 Season ON JUNE 25, 2015, the Titans and Nissan North America announced the formation of a 20-year, exclusive naming-rights partnership that rebranded Nashville’s downtown stadium as Nissan Stadium. Nissan Stadium hosts all Titans home football games, Tennessee State University home football games, the Music City Bowl, international soccer games, concerts, the CMA Music Festival and numerous other events. The procurement of naming rights to Nissan Stadium fit the automotive company’s ‘Fewer, Bigger, Better’ marketing strategy, which has included ongoing sponsorships of NBC’s The Voice, the Heisman House college football program and a major advertising presence at the Super Bowl. Nissan is also known as the official automotive partner of the Tennessee Titans. Nissan’s ever-growing footprint in Tennessee includes vehicle and powertrain manufacturing facilities in Smyrna and Decherd respectively, along with its North American headquarters in Franklin. The Nissan Smyrna plant began operations in 1983 and employs more than 8,400 people. In 2014, the Smyrna plant assembled more than 648,000 vehicles, making it the highest volume automotive assem-
Nissan Stadium.indd 96
bly plant in North America. Nissan also has a major manufacturing presence in Canton, Miss., along with research and development groups in California, Arizona and Michigan. In total, the company employs more than 22,000 employees in the U.S. An important component of the Titans-Nissan partnership is assisting charitable organizations throughout Middle Tennessee in an array of community outreach programs. A centerpiece of this is the annual “Taste of Titans” charitable event, for which Nissan serves as presenting sponsor and which this year benefited the ALS Association, Tennessee Chapter. During the course of a 20-year relationship, a total of more than $1 million resulting from these annual events is anticipated to be distributed to local nonprofit organizations. Nissan Stadium is a city-owned venue that has housed the Titans since 1999. The naming rights agreement included the opportunity for Nissan branding on the exterior of the stadium, as well as stadium signage and other unique displays inside the stadium. LP Building Products previously held the naming rights to the stadium since 2006.

SAINT THOMAS SPORTS PARK Team Headquarters and Practice Facility of the Tennessee Titans
ON MAY 15, 1998, the team selected a 31-acre site at the MetroCenter complex in Nashville as the team’s permanent practice location. Since that time, a beautiful multimillion-dollar facility has been built by Nashville- based Powell Building Group on the property, located just north of downtown Nashville about five miles from Nissan Stadium. The team moved into the facility on Aug. 26, 1999, the day after training camp completed and the day before the first preseason game at Nissan Stadium. The 80,000-square-foot building contains a state-of-the-art locker room, weight rooms, a training room, cafeteria, broadcast studio, meeting rooms and offices for coaches, players and administrative staff. The building also features an auditorium with seating for 125 people, as well as other meeting rooms. Designed to exceed the standards of all previous training and practice facilities, the weight training center and rehabilitation treatment facility sets the model for all professional sports. The facility boasts three outdoor practice fields with natural grass, plus an enclosed field. Logistically, each field is identical to the playing surface at Nissan Stadium, from the 100-yard length to the geographic orientation. The longitudinal center of 98
each field is 24 degrees west of north, just like the field at Nissan Stadium, enabling the Titans to practice in the same slanting sunlight they face on Sundays. Powell, a leading builder in Middle Tennessee, was chosen for its state-of-the-art construction planning and building techniques. The facility occupies a beautiful site chosen from over 60 reviewed locations; a lakefront peninsula across from the Fountain Square commercial development located within a few miles from downtown Nashville.
