Sustainable Synergy: Driving Forward with the Royal Terberg Group Roadmap

At the Royal Terberg Group, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword – it’s in our DNA. We’re dedicated to upholding our family business legacy while taking responsibility for both our people and the planet. Our bold sustainability ambitions and strategic roadmap outlined in the RTG Mission and Strategy 2023 - 2027 document reflect our unwavering commitment to making a positive impact for generations to come.

Terberg’s commitment to sustainability is evident across all 38 operating companies, ingrained in everything we do. From pioneering advancements in our e-drive product portfolio to embracing renewable energy through solar initiatives, and even revolutionizing waste reduction with innovative stillages, our commitment to sustainability knows no bounds.

But we’re not stopping there. As the world’s sustainability landscape evolves, driven by the demands of society, our valued customers, suppliers and stringent governmental regulations, Terberg is stepping up to the plate like never before. In the spring of 2023, we embarked on an ambitious journey to intensify collaboration across all our companies, rallying behind a shared vision for sustainability.

Led by the unwavering dedication of our senior management teams, we’re prioritizing sustainability across three critical domains: Environment, Social Aspects, and Governance. Because we understand that real change starts from within, and by uniting our efforts, we can create a lasting impact that extends far beyond our company walls.

Our sustainability commitments encapsulate our focus to driving positive change across every facet of our business:

Enable our customers to transport goods safely and sustainably: We aim to ensure user health & safety through our vehicle design and construction and transform transportation solutions to zero-emission and a circular economy.

People centered and sustainable operations: Our focus extends beyond profit margins to prioritize the development of our people, ensure their health & safety and ensure equal treatment and opportunity for all. We will reduce energy use, GHG emissions and reduce (natural) resource use and waste. We will ensure a clean environment, without pollution.

Responsible Business Conduct: We will apply our Code of Conduct in our value chain and apply Sustainability Due Diligence in our supply chain to ensure responsible sourcing.

Contribution to local communities: We will contribute to the communities and regions we operate in through dedicated social impact initiatives and partnerships.

Each commitment is backed by concrete targets, strategic choices, key performance indicators (KPIs), and actionable plans to ensure we stay true to our sustainability journey.

Our dedicated project team assesses our Greenhouse Gas footprint group-wide, covering scope 1 (our direct emissions), scope 2 (emissions from purchased energy), and scope 3 (other, indirect emissions). Comprised of members from all Terberg companies, our ‘Carbon Team’ underwent specialized training via webinars tailored specifically for Terberg. Our internal Sustainability SharePoint site serves as a valuable resource hub, offering insights into sustainability legislation and more. Furthermore, we started a Life Cycle Assessment project involving collaboration with heads of engineering across our organization.

Terberg companies are continuously dedicated to local enhancements, including process optimization to boost energy efficiency, comprehensive training programs to foster the development of our workforce, robust implementation of the Terberg Code of Conduct, impactful community initiatives, attainment of ISO certifications such as ISO 45001 and 14001, and the pursuit of sustainability or ESG ratings.

A comprehensive summary of these endeavours will be unveiled in the inaugural group-wide sustainability report of the Royal Terberg Group, due for release in the Summer of 2024.
