How the CMA Works The Catholic Ministries Appeal is the annual campaign supporting six local ministries that teach, feed, and heal.
As the Catholic Bearcat community, we seek to help people encounter the transformative love of Christ, cultivate an integrated life of faith, and proclaim the Gospel in word and deed. Primarily, we want them to see themselves as members of the Church, a family of faith. In this setting, we offer ways for students to grow in their faith: a life rooted in the Sacraments, retreats, and service to name a few. Through these opportunities, we give students the chance to meet each other and experience God’s grace in those spaces.
All 200+ parishes of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati join together to invite participation in this vital appeal.
Our students recognize that they are workers in the vineyard. They have created a culture of encounter and invitation at our Newman Parish. Their faith, by its very nature, turns outward to the needs of their peers. I see their desire to share their faith with others. They have come to understand that it is precisely in their day-to-day lives, living the Gospel in their own way that is the best “program” of evangelization: recognizing their own giftedness, their own belovedness and being able to respond to the world with the eyes of Christ.

CMA Supports Six Local Ministries New Evangelization
Campus, Hospital, and Prison Ministries
Catholic Charities and Social Services
Campus Ministry: The CMA supports Campus Ministry at the University of Cincinnati, Miami University, and Wright State University. Campus Ministry helps keep college students connected with their Catholic faith.
The CMA supports evangelization and discipleship ministries in parishes and schools throughout the Archdiocese. These ministries lead people to encounter Christ in their own lives and equip them to walk with others in their journey of faith.
These organizations feed the hungry, provide disaster recovery and emergency relief, pregnancy counseling, mental health counseling, Su Casa Hispanic services, senior services, and more. The CMA provides funding to Catholic Social Services of the Miami Valley in Dayton and Catholic Charities Southwestern Ohio in Cincinnati.
St. Rita School for the Deaf
Serving students in grades pre-K through 12, St. Rita School for the Deaf meets the educational and social needs of children who are deaf or have communication needs. Students are provided educational opportunities and language development to become successful in any path they choose in life.

New Evangelization
Hospital Ministry: Hospital chaplains offer prayer, sacraments, companionship before surgery, and a listening presence to patients at local hospitals.
Prison Ministry: The incarcerated receive support through RCIA classes, the celebration of Mass, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and other faith-based programs.
Retired Archdiocesan Priests
Many of our priests continue their ministry for years after retirement by assisting pastors with Masses, hearing confessions, visiting the sick, and more. The CMA provides funding to the Priest Retirement Plan.
Seminary and Vocations

The Athenaeum of Ohio, which is also home to Mount St. Mary’s Seminary, is the premier center of Catholic formation sponsored by the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. In addition to seminarian education, the Athenaeum offers diaconate formation and lay pastoral ministry programs.
