Corporate Work Study Program FAQ's

What Families Need to Know about the Corporate Work Study Program One of the distinct differences between DePaul Cristo Rey and other high schools is our innovative Corporate Work Study Program (CWSP). DPCR students work five days a month at Greater Cincinnati businesses and organizations. Not only does this work allow students to contribute financially to their education, they also learn important job skills, meet mentors and gain real work experience.

Do students and their families have a say in their workplace assignment? DPCR staff use several factors to decide on job placements including school schedules and the needs of employers. While students’ interests are considered, they don’t have a final say about where they will work.

What do students wear to work?

Here are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about the CWSP.

What types of work do students perform in CWSP jobs?

Students wear their school uniform every day, whether they are going to school or work. This dress code includes uniform pants and shirts, dress shoes, and ties for young men. The dress code is outlined in the Student Handbook given to all families.

CWSP jobs are typically in office settings so students may answer phones, sort mail, enter data in a computer, greet customers, and copy documents.

Will students receive a paycheck from their CWSP job?

Where do students work? This school year students are working at almost 90 different companies and businesses around Greater Cincinnati including Macy’s, Good Samaritan Hospital and Western & Southern Financial Group.

A student’s earnings from the CWSP job are paid to DePaul Cristo Rey High School, not the student. These earnings are applied to the cost of education at DPCR and are what make a DPCR education affordable.

Do students receive benefits from their employer? Students aren’t eligible for employee benefits.

Can families call, text or email students at work? Families should not contact the employer directly for any reason, and students are to have their cell phones turned off and not visible while they are at work. If you need to reach a student at work or have a concern, please call the CWSP office at DePaul Cristo Rey at 861-0600.

Do families have to take students to and from work?

Do students receive a grade and credit for their work study? All students receive a quarterly grade based on their job performance and evaluations from on-the-job supervisors. At the end of the school year, after successfully finishing a year of work, students receive academic credit.

Rides to and from CWSP jobs are provided by DPCR. Students are to arrive at school at the same time each morning whether it is a school or work day.

How do students know which days they work?

Ms. Lisa Claytor

At the beginning of the school year students are assigned to a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday work team and they work on that day for the rest of the year. Each team also works one Friday a month. Students receive a Friday work schedule so they know their work days in advance.
