DePaul Cristo Rey is transforming lives. Our first class of students, already juniors, is well into the college admission process. In fact, today they took their first college entrance exam. While taking the ACT is a standard practice for most high school students, it is yet another milestone for ours, as most will be the first in their families to enter college. Getting these students to this point has required much effort, prayer and financial assistance. All of tonight’s proceeds support our scholarship fund, making you a very important Rey of Light for these young people. For this, I can’t thank you enough. Gratefully,

Important Tax Information The IRS requires that charitable organizations inform contributors of the deductibility of payments and donations made by patrons for fundraising activities. The following are guidelines provided to assist in your tax preparation. 1. Reservations – The cost of each reservation is tax deductible to the extent it exceeds the fair market value of the event, which is $55 per person. 2. Purchased Gifts – Tax deductible for the amounts paid in excess of the fair market value of each gift. 3. Cash Contributions – Tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law. For contributions of $250 or more, a written receipt is required. 4. Gift Contributions – Tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law. For non-cash property donations, it is advised that you consult your tax professional since the IRS has specific requirements for filing which may apply to you (i.e. an official appraisal is warranted if the value of an item exceeds $5,000 and is not a publicly traded security). You may deduct only what is paid in excess of each gift’s fair market value. 5. Raffle Tickets – Are not deductible. 6. Receipts – The auction checkout form will serve as your official receipt for items purchased at the Rey of Light Auction. The value set for each item is a “good faith estimate” as required by the IRS. You may deduct only what is paid in excess of each gift’s fair market value.

12

Live Auction Live Auction Rules 1. The auction will begin promptly at 8:00 p.m. and will continue without interruption until all items have been auctioned. 2. If you have taken advantage of the Express Checkout offered in your invitation, you will only need to pick up your paid receipt in the checkout area. All other payments by the bidder should be made immediately following the item’s sale or at the end of the auction when payment for all items may be made at one time. Payment may be made in cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express. 3. The auctioneer will acknowledge the highest bidder.
