MIXED USE DEVELOPMENT, PRAGUE bachelor project
This building stands on a very busy place in Praha-Smíchov. It creates border between the old and new aera of Smíchov. Now there is a large bus station directly in front of the building, but many plans for revitalisation were made and the place should change into a living square with many important public services. In my proposal I count on the newly designed “Smíchov city” and town hall, which will take place instead of the bus station. I design two houses, which work together and stand on both sides of the existing policlinic house. My houses incorporate shops in the first floor, open space offices in the second and third and flats in the last four. The main figure of the house, as seen from the street level would be three rectangular towers, which create two large openings to provide a bit more light into the courtyard behind the house. The courtyard itself is divided into two separated parts connected by gate. The part to the east belongs to residents of the house and contains a small playing field for different sports. In the part of the house which is in direct contact with the yard are situated places for bicycles, for sporting equipment, as well as meeting rooms which can be rented by the residents. The part of the courtyard which lies to the west is open for public and is intended mainly for the office workers.
The house is cladded by concrete panels in rectangular grid. The panels get smaller and smaller as they are higher on the facade. This helps the house look more light and subtle. Windows in the first three floors are leveled with the rest of the facade and are fixed, since the offices are air-conditioned. Windows in the higher floors are set a bit deeper in the facade and thus make nice loggias for the flats behind them. This also works as a sound barrier, since the place tends to be quite noisy. The inside of the house is quite simple, but still offers a good bit of variability. There are three entrances, which are spatious and give the right impression for a house on such place. From there you can get to floors 2 and 3 where are open space offices. These can be connected or divided based on the size needed for each company. From floor four there are flats of different sizes. Directly on floor five the flats have huge terraces between the towers, these consist of plank board and a large piece of green roof. All the flats have a loggia deep enough to use it with a table and a few chairs. I design a solid house with charms hidden in its subtlety.

SOCIAL HOUSING, PRAGUE school project
Edge of the city, gradual transition from block-made city to almost village area, complicated plot with shape of triangle, busy roads from both sides, driveway to the center, the first hint of the city, unfinished block, dangerous district. I think of this house, due to surrounding conditions, as a fortress, fortification, wall or place where you can hide your privacy. I wanted to create a space, which would defend its residents together with yard as a heart of it. Quite different is the view to this house from the outside, because of its location. It stands next to the busy driveway into the center and first time you feel, you´re getting into the city. According to the city urbanism this plot asks for the unforgettable, significant building. In my design I try to connect both of this views. I use the whole plot and I finish existing block. Thanks to two openings in south part of the house I put the sunlight into the courtyard and the north façade. Courtyard has an elongated shape and I try to increase it optically by the big gate. This element also helps the house act as a symbol.
The content of the house is social housing, therefore there are a lot of small flats or flats, which use each meter. With increasing number of floors flats are getting bigger, from one bedroom to three-bedroom apartment or duplex. I design more generous and spacious flats in the corner and front part of the house, because there are unique views and this positions are not suitable for social flats. Those flats are better marketable, so they can partially offset the house price. Placing non-social flats into the house also prevents creating closed social groups. My houses incorporate shops in the first floor facing to the streets, facing to the courtyard there are flats, which has small gardens. Facade is cladded by light grey bricks and it´s regularly divided with windows.

CHARLES UNIVERSITY LIBRARY, Prague school project
Library of Charles University in Prague is situated right in one of the university’s campuses. The location is on the corner of the streets Albertov and Na Slupi. This place is very well accessible and it´s an entrance to the campus, because it stands on the main campus street. I am trying to connect the center of the city with the campus, which is dead during the time when students are not around. The campus is also hidden from the city center, therefore I design an eight level tower, which can be seen from a distance. Library shares a huge open garden with monastery next to it. The garden is accessible from all sides and serves not only for students and library visitors, but also for guests of the library cafeteria, which is at the ground floor. Main entrance is located in a passage from the campus street to the garden and it is elevated above the street level. There are stairs on both sides, which also work as benches. The main study room is skewed and its floor provides roof for the stairs. The library is composed of two parts. The heart of the library is main spacious study hall, which opens to the garden with big glass
wall. There are four retreating floors in the study hall, creating a great pleasant space. Parts with bookshelves are connected to the study hall. In the last three floors, there are individual studies and silent rooms. On the tower´s last floor I design a big terrace with view to the old city center. The three eastern levels of library is formed by administration, night study rooms, lecture hall with foyer and social hall for special events. This part of library is connected to the main building, but it has separated entrance so it can also work independently. The facade is made of reddish plaster and composed of combinations of strip and square windows, according to the need of light. The facade of the study opens fully into the garden and closes fully into the street. This closed part of the facade adds to the emphasis and significance of the house, which should this university institution definitively have.
