Earth Day Network Speech/Earth Day 2011 Good afternoon conservationists and thank you Joe for that wonderful introduction. I come here today to share some exciting news for Earth Day Network and Yesterday’s Future on this High Holiday for sustainability lovers the world over it is Earth Day.

This is one of my favorite days of the year. I am excited to see so many people come out to learn more about how we can take care of the earth and how we can continue to give back to the planet that has given us so much. I love seeing new faces and some old recycled ones too. Today’s events are fun, but they have a serious focus. We must continue to highlight how far we have come from in the fight for Mother Earth. Together, we have done a lot, but our work is never done. Planting trees is only the beginning. There is still so much more that can do. As we see landfills grow to the point that they have to close. And the hole in the ozone continues to grow. I have built my company based on the love I had for the planet and its resources. I believe that everything has a second purpose. You see an old chair and I see a new table. You see and old lamp, I see a vase. For over twelve years Yesterday’s Future has stood on the firm principles of sustaining what we have, preserving what we get, and not being frivolous in what we discard. This is my life’s work. It brings me joy and purpose to share my items and do my part on the larger scale.

I am honored to say that Yesterday’s Future is partnering with The Earth Day Network to launch learning programs in all five of our locations. Teaching you the vital tools to

Earth Day Network Speech/Earth Day 2011 become conservationists, so that the next generation will know what a tree looks like and not just because they have seen one in a book or a movie. I want thank EDN for honoring me. Last December, I was pleased to speak for the Women and the Green Economy Conference. I stood next to some powerful women and was inspired by the work that they do and I want to continue to inspire others to live a life by the old reduce, reuse, recycle motto with a modern twist.

When asking people to reduce their carbon footprint, we do not just want it to be catchphrase, but a way of life. Today we are going to show you some programs that will be rolling out in our locations over the next three months. Again, I want to say thank you to The Earth Day Network for its continued dedication to our planet. And I hope that this will grow into a long-term partnership with you. Thank you all and Happy Earth Day!
