Jermaine Jackson’s New Book: ‘You Are Not Alone’ Defends His Brother Michael Interview With Joy Behar Talking About His New Book Jermaine Jackson gave an interview on the Joy Behar Show on CNN. Here are some of the questions and answers: Joy: Why did Michael share his bed with children? Jermaine: First of all. Michael did not share his bed with children. He slept on the floor….while growing up, we had sleep overs in Indiana. The neighborhood kids would sleep over and Michael grew up knowing that this was okay.
Joy: Why would he think that people would look at that and say that it was okay for a 40 year old man to sleep with kids in his room? Jermaine: Michael grew up in a room with bunk beds and all the brothers. Psychologically that never left him. Joy: But you grew up that way and you never did that. Jermaine: I’m still around kids all the time.
Joy: Do you have them in your bedroom though? Jermaine: Absolutely. There is nothing wrong with it. If I am responsible for kids and their parents leave them with me, what’s wrong with it? Today is so demented and sick that people look at things the wrong way. My brother never touched anyone and they knew this. The media knew this too but they did it anyway. Why? Because they knew it would create ratings and that it would sell newspapers. So, in the book, I speak about all of this because when you talk about him you talk about all of us Jacksons. Joy: Well I think it’s the appearance of things. After the charges he continued to do it, why do it?
Jermaine: Because he did nothing wrong...What you have to realize is that Michael is a kid himself. You are looking at Michael through grown up eyes. He is looking at kids through child’s eyes because he didn’t have a childhood. But there was never none of that. Megan Durr
Ruby White is following in Tyler Perry’s footsteps. Ruby’s first stage play was “Loose to Love Again” written and directed by Hurtestine Wilkerson. That stirred up something in her.
Megan, a Mississippi native, grew up in Milwaukee, WI. She moved back to Mississippi in 2000. Megan started college at the early age of 16. She graduated from Hinds Junior College.
Ms. White says that one day she was at her kitchen sink, she heard a voice that told her to pick up a pencil and write. She responded that she would do it later. Again the voice told her to pick up a pencil and write. In the mist of washing dishes she stopped and took a piece of paper to start writing. Within one hour she had written a play from the beginning to the end. Ruby says that she couldn’t believe it was her doing it and that she believes it was God. She asked God what to name her play. Ms. White says that God told her to call the play “Mimic” Breaking the curse of abuse through prayer, hope, and the word. She has an upcoming play on January 7th and 8th in Yazoo City, Mississippi.

She majored in Graphic and Print Communications. She also has a Real Estate License and she has attended design school. She is currently studying to become a lawyer. Megan decided to become an entrepreneur after watching the movie “B.A.P.S” starring Halle Berry, who opened up a beauty salon and restaurant in the movie. She personally designed her beautiful multi-business complex on Watkins Drive. It houses her Sandwich Shop, N Motion Hair Salon (named after her son who was very active while she was carrying him), and her boutique called Vivian’s, named after her mother. The food at Megan’s restaurant reflects her exceptional culinary skills. Even her lemon-aid is exceptional with its slice of orange or cherries on top. Believe it or not, Megan has accomplished all of this at the young age of 27!

Chris Paige is from Jackson, MS. He grew up in the Washington Addition neighborhood. He graduated from Jim Hill High School. Chris received his Barber’s and Barber Instructor’s license from Hinds Community College in Utica, MS
Eclecius (king) Franklin, Jr. is a rising star in the track and field arena. He’s not just a great athlete, he is an athlete with a great heart as well. His father Eclecius Franklin, Sr., owner of Gifted Hands Massage Therapy recalls an incident when his son
under the instruction of Ms. Jacqueline Sullivan. He received the Outstanding Student Award, which is only given to one Hinds CC student a year for barbering. He has been a licensed barber for almost 13 years. Chris has two beautiful daughters, Chrishawna and Krista. Chris says: “My daughters keeps me grounded and motivated. Chrishawna is in the APAC academic program in JPS and I am looking forward to Krista also being apart of it.” He attends MT Eva MB Church in Terry, MS. Chris is a Barber Instructor at Academy of Hair Design in Jackson. He owns Custom Cuts & Styles located at 2445 Terry Road, which won Best Barber Shop for 2011 in the Jackson Free Press. He also received the Rising Entrepreneur for 2011 Award. Chris is active in his community. Last year he organized a food drive to donate to Stewpot. Chris and the barbers that work with him gave a free haircut to kids 13 and under that brought food items. All of the barbers working at Custom Cuts & Styles received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Mayor’s office for Outstanding Community Service. Chris will be teaching a class at the MS International Hair Show and Expo coming here at the Trade Center on the fairgrounds April 22 & 23, 2011. Chris’ motto is “Put God first”.
first started running in his very first race. As King was running, he came upon a participant who was in a wheel chair. He stopped to help the young man who was having a very difficult time. This costs him 4 minutes off his racing time. He probably would have won the race but he believed that it was more important to extend his help to the young man in need. Eclecius ended up placing 2nd Place in his age division in the race in spite of the 4 minute time delay. “That was a great thing you did. You made the right decision.”, says his father, Eclecius, Senior. King Franklin, as he is called, has run and won many races. Among them are: Run Through History 10k, March 5,2011, time:-45:04 , placed 2nd in age group; Swinging Bridge 5k, July 9, 2011, placed 1st for is age group; Hit The Bricks 5k, July 16, 2011, time- 17:58, placed 1st in age group, 2nd overall. Eclecius Jr. is a sophomore at Murrah High School in Jackson. He is a member of Murrah High School Cross Country Team and participates in the M. Track Club Association 2011 level.

It all started one day when Tyler was watching the Oprah Show. Oprah was talking about how writing about your pain can be cathargic. He didn’t know what cathargic meant. Once he knew what it meant he started writing a series of letters to himself. He was afraid that someone would discover his letters so he used different characters as names. Those letters became his first play. He managed to save $15,000 to bring his play to the stage. The play turned out to be a huge disappointment. Only 30 people showed up to see it. Two of those 30 people were his coworkers who had suffered abuse in their childhood as well. Since those 2 people expressed that they were moved by the play, Tyler decided to continue on. Over the next . six years Tyler produced his plays. During that period he experienced tremendous disappointment and failure. While putting on his plays, he had to quit several jobs because they would not allow him the time off when he needed it. By 1998 Perry was homeless. Tyler decided to quit the playwright business. He got a job with good benefits. He thought that was going to be the best he could do. Then on March 12th, 1998, Tyler put on another play. That play sold out. That success changed his life forever. Tyler decided to move to Hollywood. At the time he was selling out plays by the tens of thousands.
He wrote a movie script. He took the script to several Hollywood producers. They turned him down. According to Perry, the reason they turned him down was because they did not believe that black people who go to church also go to the movies. Their refusal forced Tyler to go at it on his own. He says that it is a good thing to be underestimated. It can cause you to end up having your own. Tyler’s biggest challenge was getting people who are already suffering from abuse and struggles to actually want to come to a movie to see it on the screen. He found a way to wrap up their struggles with humor so they can laugh at it. So far, he is doing an awesome job of doing that.
According to Tyler, the area where he grew up in New Orleans was a horrible place. Tyler called it a living hell. At times when Tyler’s father was yelling at his mother, he would imagine himself being in a much happier place. The funny thing is that he now is living in the type of place he imagined.

Follow Your Passion: Advice From Steve Jobs
The Legendary Steve Jobs, former CEO of Apple was the inspiration for many products we use today such as the iPhone, iPod, and iPad. If it were not for the fact that he followed his passion at all costs, our world wouldn’t be quite the same. Here is a quote from Mr. Jobs:
Always follow your passion and curiosity. Even if something (such as a class or a degree) may seem impractical, if you find it interesting, go ahead and study it. - You must have trust in SOMETHING – and follow your heart, even if it leads you off the well-worn path. - Failures are part of life. Don’t lose faith. A failure can turn into a later success. The only way to do great work is to love what you do. Don’t settle! Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. When Steve was in college, he made the decision to follow his heart. He was enrolled at Reed College. After only six months in college he decided to drop out of college. At the time he really did not know what he wanted to do in life. The college was very expensive and he felt like he was wasting his parents money. Instead of being enrolled as a full time student with a major, he decided to take a few courses that really interested him. One of those courses was a Calligraphy course that ultimately played a big role in the original Mac computer that he helped to create. Mr. Jobs talked about connecting the dots. There may be times when you follow your heart without realizing the importance those decisions will play later on in life. But as time goes on you can look back and connect the dots to see how those decisions ultimately led to a better place in life. Steve said that if he had not dropped out of college and if he had not taken courses according to his passion, he would not have created the beautiful Calligraphy font that the Mac computer has today. Mr. Jobs said that your time is limited so don’t waste your time living someone else’s life. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinion drown out your own inner voice. And most of all have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. Steve Jobs passed away in October of this year (2011) of Pancreatic Cancer. (RIP)

As a Man Thinketh . . . You have probably heard of the Biblical Proverb that says: “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he” Proverbs 23:7. This Proverb reminds me of a movie I saw recently starring Mo’Nique of the Mo’Nique Show. In the movie she played the role of a woman who had a poor self image because of her weight. One day she met a handsome African doctor who really adored her. In his culture the plus size women are considered as very beautiful. Mo’Nique’s character was so insecure about her weight to the point of breaking up with her handsome beau. She could not believe that he could love the way she looked. She thought that he was too good to be true. After a period of depression and beating up on herself, Mo’Nique’s character began to embrace herself. She decided to believe that she was indeed beautiful. Her new attitude inspired her to create sketches of beautiful clothing for plus sized women. Pretty soon her designs were discovered by a major department store who made her a huge success. The woman decided that it was time to reconnect with her beloved African doctor. So she traveled to Nigeria, Africa to find him. When they re-united, he revealed to her that he never stopped loving her. He was just waiting on her to realize that she was as beautiful as he said she was. Just as in the movie, many people are bound by their poor self image. However, it is up to us to choose how we see ourselves. How do you choose to see yourself?
