THE TRADITION BECOMES AVANT-GARDE. A “titbit” for those who love beauty and the precious details. The collection derives from the aim of matching an antique technique, as the inlay work, a naïf drawing, as the flight of butterflies, and rigorous modern forms. The appearance is playful, its expression is light, its design is essential and clean, everything is capably put together by the Marchetti’s master craftsmen. The tradition becomes avant-garde. What’s the reason of this decoration’s choice? “The butterfly evokes elegance, bubbles remind us of the play and the flight suggests us freedom” the designer tells us. “… they are objects for a strictly private and intimate space, where you can make a positive energy vibrate, where you can go back to childhood without being “childish”. “Therefore, I chose objects that can live in every space in the house. Like the tables, that in case of need become writing desks, the bedside tables, that can be put in the living room next to great different-shaped sofas, and the chairs, both for the bedroom and the entrance”. The collection dedicated to the butterflies expresses the authentic Marchetti style and the passions that kindle the heart of Giordana Marchetti. The table MM 519 is photographed in “OIL” and “NERO ANTICO” finish. Certamente l’amicizia, l’amicizia che si nutre per le persone, è una cosa frivola, e la lettura è un’amicizia. Ma almeno è un’amicizia sincera, e il fatto che si rivolge a dei morti, a degli assenti, le conferisce qualcosa di disinteressato, di quasi commovente. Inoltre essa si è liberata di tutto ciò che rende sgradevoli le altre amicizie. Come infatti tutti noi, i viventi, non siamo che dei morti non ancora entrati in funzione, tutte quelle cortesie, quei convenevoli da anticamera che chiamiamo deferenza, gratitudine, devozione, a cui mescoliamo tante menzogne, sono sterili e faticosi. Inoltre, - sin dai primi rapporti di simpatia, di ammirazione, di riconoscenza, le prime parole che pronunciamo, le prime lettere che scriviamo, tessono intorno a noi i primi fili di una tela di abitudini, di un vero e proprio modo di essere, di cui non riusciamo più a liberarci nelle amicizie successive; senza considerare che, nel frattempo, le parole esagerate che abbiamo pronunciato restano come cambiali da pagare, e che pagheremo ancora più care nel corso della nostra vita, per il rimorso di averle lasciate andare in protesto. Nella lettura, l’amicizia è di colpo ricondotta alla sua purezza originaria. Con i libri non ci sono convenevoli. Se trascorriamo la serata con loro è perché ne abbiamo veramente desiderio. E spesso li lasciamo con rimpianto. E quando li abbiamo lasciati, non abbiamo nessuno di quei pensieri che guastano le amicizie: “Che cosa avranno pensato di noi? Non avremo mancato di tatto? Saremo piaciuti?” e nemmeno la paura di essere dimenticati per un altro. Tutti i tormenti dell’amicizia cessano alle soglie di quell’amicizia pura e tranquilla che è la lettura. E nemmeno la deferenza: ridiamo di quel che dice Molière soltanto nella misura in cui ci diverte. Quando ci annoia, non abbiamo paura di avere l’aria annoiata, e quando ne abbiamo abbastanza di stare con lui, lo rimettiamo al suo posto decisamente come se non avesse genio, né celebrità. L’atmosfera di questa pura amicizia è il silenzio, più puro della parola. Infatti come noi parliamo per gli altri ma restiamo in silenzio per noi stessi, il silenzio non reca, come la parola, il segno dei nostri difetti, delle nostre contrazioni. Tra il pensiero dello scrittore e il nostro non si frappongono gli elementi irriducibili, refrattari al pensiero, dei nostri diversi egoismi. Il linguaggio stesso del libro è puro (se il libro merita questo nome), reso trasparente dal pensiero del suo autore che ne ha tolto tutto ciò che non gli appartiene sino a farne il suo specchio fedele; e ogni frase rassomiglia alle altre, perché tutte sono dette con l’inflessione unica di una sola persona. Da qui deriva una sorta di continuità che i rapporti della vita, e ciò che essi mescolano al pensiero di elementi a lei estranei, escludono, e che consente ben presto di seguire la linea di pensiero dell’autore, i tratti della sua fisionomia che si riflettono su quello specchio tranquillo. Abbiamo imparato ad amare, di volta in volta, i lineamenti di ciascuno senza pretendere che siano ammirevoli, perché è un gran piacere per lo spirito distinguere quelle pitture profonde e amare senza egoismo, senza frasi, come tra sé e sé. 35

ABITARE IL TEMPO 2006 La percezione dello stand Marchetti è ampia, leggera, ironica. I dettagli sono i protagonisti. I materiali sono ricercati ma allo stesso tempo quotidiani. Abbinamenti insoliti con valore storico: il pregio sta nella foglia d’oro, la contemporaneità nella resina trasparente e color latte, il tutto applicato alle ante della libreria PG 700. Un altro filone è la riedizione di pezzi classici laccati bianchi con pomoli in ceramica dalle forme semplici, cuori e fiori, che sono stati glassati con un grosso strato di smalto, naturalmente bianco. La collezione dedicata alle farfalle è un’espressione dell’autentico stile Marchetti che unisce la tradizione dell’antica tecnica dell’intarsio con legni colorati in essenza a un design pulito e diretto. La cucina BLANC DE BLANC, a prima vista semplice e leggera, nasconde dettagli ironici, piccoli segreti da scoprire. Mobili non convenzionali, la percezione è ludica ma mai infantile. Solo dei rimandi alle favole ed ai sogni lieti. Splendida installazione, tutto ispira gioia e condivisone.

The outlook of the Marchetti stand is wide, light and ironic. The details are the protagonists. The materials are refined but functional in the same time. There are unusual combinations with a historical value: the preciousness is the golden leaf, the contemporariness is in the use of a transparent milk-coloured resin, together with doors of the PG 700 bookcase. On the other hand, we have the re-editing of classical objects in white lacquering with simple pottery knobs, hearts and flowers, that have been treated with a great layer of glaze, naturally white. The collection dedicated to butterflies is an expression of the authentic Marchetti style that unifies the tradition of the antique inlay’s technique with coloured woods and a clean and direct design. The BLANC DE BLANC kitchen, simple and soft at first sight, hides ironic details and small secrets to discover. They are unconventional products, whose perception is funny but never “childish”. They are only references to fairy tales and sweet dreams. Wonderful project, where all inspires joy and a sense of sharing.

Successivamente, le pile di legno subiscono un trattamento in appositi impianti di essiccazione, per il raggiungimento del grado di umidità consono alla lavorazione. Infine il legno

al coperto fino a fargli ritrovare l’equilibrio “umidità/temperatura” per rendere la sua lavorazione ottimale. Quando è giunto a maturazione, diversi anni dopo l’acquisto, a seconda dell’essenza, viene selezionato solo il legno migliore, per poi utilizzarlo per i mobili della Marchetti. All starts from there. With a drying process at the open air, the piles of wood are properly set, in order to let the wind blow through and naturally dry them. This process is called “stagionatura”. Then, the piles are treated in drying plants to reach the right degree of dampness. Finally, the wood is taken inside the factory to balance the relation between dampness and temperature, essential to work it. When the wood has matured, many years after the purchase, it is selected on the base of type and quality, to be used for the Marchetti furniture.

“Fin da bambina senza saperlo avevo già intrapreso quella che poi sarebbe stata la mia strada nella vita…” Mi trovo nel nuovo showroom di Tombolo del Mobilificio D’Arte Marchetti. Entrando rimango subito colpito dalla luminosità e dal taglio moderno dello spazio. Dopo una breve attesa mi riceve Giordana Marchetti, che è oggi il designer delle collezioni del Mobilificio D’Arte Marchetti. Rimanendo colpito dal suo fascino e dalla sua indiscutibile personalità mi accingo a farle un intervista.
Ti piace il tuo lavoro? Si, molto! E’ un lavoro di ricerca in continua evoluzione e mi dà la possibilità di esprimere la mia creatività.

Cosa ti dà più soddisfazione in quello che fai? …….. soprattutto il fatto di vedere realizzate le mie idee. Quando disegno un mobile so che andrà a riempire gli spazi di una casa in cui vivranno delle persone e mi piace pensare che esso possa contribuire a rendere questi luoghi più accoglienti e piacevoli, e perchè no, magari a rendere anche le persone più felici.
E’ per questo che hai iniziato a disegnare mobili o è stato un dovere? Fin da bambina senza saperlo avevo già intrapreso quella che poi sarebbe stata la mia strada nella vita. Il primo mobile che ricordo di aver disegnato è stato un comò per la casa delle mie bambole che mio padre divertito, ha costruito.
Come sappiamo, purtroppo oggi non hai la fortuna di lavorare al fianco di tuo padre. Che ricordo hai di Lui? Mi capita spesso che mi si faccia questa domanda ed io ne parlo volentieri, perchè ho molti bei ricordi. Era un uomo forte e severo, ma allo stesso tempo, sensibile e divertente. Lo ricordo sempre al lavoro, sia in azienda che in casa, impegnato a creare qualcosa di nuovo. Conservo ancora dei progetti fatti da Lui, magari troppo all’avanguardia per quei tempi e che oggi avrebbero un grande successo. 118

Hai preso spunto da Lui? Certo. Lui è dentro in ogni mio lavoro.
Lavori con altri membri della tua famiglia? Si, lavoro con tutti i membri della mia famiglia, infatti pur essendo una S.P.A, si può dire che la nostra è un’azienda a conduzione familiare. Lavoro a stretto contatto con mio fratello Maurizio, dividiamo infatti lo stesso ufficio. Mentre Franca Marchetti nonché mia madre, è l’amministratore e gestisce gli stabilimenti, affiancata dai suoi fratelli. Mia sorella Federica si occupa del commerciale estero e grazie a Lei il nostro marchio si sta affermando sempre con maggiore successo nel mondo.
Che rapporto avete con i dipendenti? C’è un rapporto di stima reciproca, la maggior parte lavora con noi da sempre e li conosciamo tutti personalmente.
Tornando al tuo ruolo di designer, da dove prendi l’ispirazione per creare tutti i nuovi modelli? Penso alle persone che amo, mi piace tradurre le loro esigenze in confort, creare oggetti in legno che possano sorprendere e divertire, e l’immaginazione diventa arredo. Giordana ha saputo proseguire la tradizione di famiglia riproducendo pezzi storici, riutilizzando ed esaltando le antiche tecniche artigiane. Grazie al Suo spiccato senso creativo e al suo stile inconfondibile, ha progettato e prodotto delle nuove collezioni che propongono un’ immagine inedita dell’arredamento contemporaneo. Dopo questa interessante conversazione, vengo condotto a visitare il resto della fabbrica e noto con piacere che il lavoro da parte di tutti viene svolto nella massima tranquillità. Il Mobilificio D’Arte Marchetti è pieno di buonumore, di bella gente e di grande energia.

Do you like your job? Yes, I do! It’s a kind of work of research in constant evolution and it gives me the possibility of expressing my creativity.
What satisfy you in what you are doing? …….. above all, the fact of seeing that my ideas become concrete realizations. When I am drawing a piece of furniture I know that it will fill a space in a house in which persons live and I like to think that it can make that space more friendly and comfortable, and maybe, the persons happier.

Did you begin to draw furniture for this reason or was it a duty? Since I was a child, without being aware of it, I had already found my way. The first piece I drew was a chest of drawers for my dolls’ house, that my father made having a lot of fun.
As we know, you haven’t the luck to work with your father today. What do you remember of Him? It often happens that people ask me about Him and I am very happy to speak about Him because I have various beautiful memories. He was a strong and severe man, but in the same time he was also sensitive and funny. I remember that he was always at work, both in the company and at home, always involved in creating something new. I still keep some projects he made, they were probably too much avant-garde projects for that period of time. Today, they would be surely appreciated.
Did you inspire yourself through Him? Of course. He is inside any of my works.
Do you work with other members of your family? Yes, I work with all the members of my family. Even if we are an joint-stock company, we can say that we are a family company. I work next to Maurizio, my brother, and we share the same office. Franca Marchetti, my mother, is the administrator and she manages the factories with the help of her brothers. Federica, my sister, deals with sales with foreign countries and, thanks to Her, our trademark is growing up all over the world.
Which is your relation with people working here? There is a relation of mutual appreciation. Most of them have been always working here and we know all of them personally.
Going back to your role of designer, from where do you take the inspiration to create all the new models? I think of the people I love, I like translating their needs in comfortable situations, creating amazing and funny objects in wood, and that imagination may become furniture. Giordana has known how to follow the family tradition by reproducing historical pieces, re-using and exalting the antique techniques of craftwork. Thanks to her particular creative sense and her original style, she has produced new collections proposing an new image of contemporary furniture. After this interesting conversation, I am invited to see the rest of the factory and I notice with pleasure that all are working in an absolute tranquillity. The Mobilificio d’Arte Marchetti is full of good mood, beautiful people and great energy. 121

Il design dal sapore retrò, che scarta le geometrie rigide in favore di forme sinuose, svela un eclettismo attualissimo che potremo definire rassicurante. Potrebbero essere scelti solo per la necessità funzionale, ma vogliono essere oggetti apprezzati per il loro effetto, la loro leggera appariscenza. My fuel? the energy which springs from the people around me. Few know that, behind the objects, pieces of furniture, a company, a trademark, there are persons, real people. They are the protagonists and for this reason I want to thank them all. First of all, I want to thank my mother Franca, who pushes me to do always my best, my brother Maurizio and my sister Federica that share with me the will to improve and make the Marchetti company grow.
