Mr Flavio Villa, Chief Engineer - Trencher Division, talks about the latest improvements to the new version of the 1475 Trencher Series

1475 SERIES UPGRADE The first 1475 was built in Tesmec USA requirement to increase more and more in 2001 and put in service on June 24th, the productivity of the 1475 and its 2002. reliability have been the drivers for the Since then, over 80 units have been last upgrade of the model 1475. manufactured in both Tesmec SpA and Tesmec USA facilities, with 3 different digging attachments: Chainsaw, Rock Hawg and Bucket wheel.

Starting from the model serial #212 released at the end of 2012, a major upgrade of the 1475 has took place in order to make this unit able to fulfill the Several upgrades took place during requirements of the more and more these 11 years, including an engine challenging tasks it is used for. power increase from 600 up to 630 hp in 2007. The basic machine structure have however always been the same. In the last 3 years, bulk excavation works have shown a huge potential in Tesmec’s actual markets and a relevant part of total sales volume has been Rock Hawg. The higher stress and vibration lever induced on the machine by the drum attachment, together with the

TesmecNews 01#2013 MAIN UPGRADES TrenchTronic The most important upgrade of the new 1475 is the revolutionary electronic control TrenchTronic 3.0. Main benefits: • EASE OF USE: the TrenchTronic 3.0 greatly increases the ease of use of the trenchers, allowing even inexperienced operators to exploit their full potential and achieve maximum PRODUCTIVITY. With the powerful “Enhanced Automatic Excavation Mode” the system controls the engine RPM, machine advance speed and the pressure of the digging circuit and will automatically set itself to the existing conditions. This let the Rock Hawg deploy its full digging capability with minimal operator effort. In this way, even not highly skilled operators can now fully exploit the potential of the machine in a very short time, dramatically increasing job site productivity and decreasing excavation cost. • RELIABILITY: the choice of all the components was made with the priority to have the highest reliability in very tough conditions of use in trenching and mining applications (vibration, shock, dust, temperature). The system uses Sauer Plus+1 hardware, while the software is developed by Tesmec SpA. • ADVANCED DIAGNOSTIC & TROUBLESHOOTING: The TrenchTronic monitors most of the electrical and electronic components (sensors, joysticks, keypads, etc…). In case of any fault, the control system alerts the operator, by indicating the suspect components and the failure mode. The engine diagnostic information is also included in the display. • REMOTE MONITORING CAPABILITY: all critical data of the machine (operating parameters, engine data, hydraulic system data, diagnostic data) are regularly transmitted via a GPRS system and stored in a dedicated server. • The customer can monitor his fleet of machines from his laptop 27/4, via a dedicated website, keeping under his control the operation and productivity of his units; • Tesmec Service team can have a remote access to the machine control, being able to carry out a complete troubleshooting in case of any fault should unevenly occur.

TesmecNews 01#2013 Mainframe The strength and the stiffness of the 1475 mainframe have been further increased, to guarantee outstanding performances in the most demanding operating conditions. • Transverse and longitudinal beam sections have been further increased; • Thickness of the upper coverage plate have been increased; • Almost all the potential notches have been removed and/ or redesigned, to further reduce fatigue stress in the toughest working conditions. Undercarriage The undercarriage length of the new 1475 has been increased by 3 chain pitches, passing from 4.04 m (13’ 3”) up to 4.73 m (15’ 6”). Main benefits: • further increase of machine stability and improvement machine balance; • reduction of the stress level in the undercarriage parts (rollers). The total length of the machine is anyway almost unchanged (only 12 cm increase [5’’]). This was possible with a redesign of the fuel tanks, with a modification in the ballast compartments. Electric System The electric system has been redesigned, and the new one is only 24 V (instead of 12/24 V of former 1475). All harnesses are protected with external coverage, and all electrical connections are dust and water proof. A new designed relay box has replaced the formerly used fuse box in the engine compartment, for an increased reliability and serviceability of the system.

Air Conditioning system The Air Conditioning system in the cab of the 1475 has been upgraded, to further improve its performances in very hot and dusty environments. The air flow from the pressurizer is now cooled/heated through the A/C unit, allowing a more effective cab pressurization. The internal filter of the A/C system is now in a new position, to make service and maintenance even easier than before. Last, the electrically driven cooling unit placed outside of the cab has been replaced by an heat exchanger in the front of the machine. Air Intake System The well-proven air intake system installed on the 1475 since its origins (prefilter + double stage filter) remains unchanged. The primary and secondary air filters are now located outside of the engine compartment, for an even easier access and serviceability. All the lines are secured with a double clamp, to assure absolute reliability in the heaviest dust environments. Engine Side Doors Perforated engine side doors are now standard, to increase cooling airflow in hot working environment (plain engine side doors still available as optional).
