Offering Solutions for Shale Plays Around the World Tesmec USA, Inc. (located in Alvarado, TX) The world’s increasing demand for energy has created new methods of natural resource reclamation throughout the world. In an effort to meet the ever increasing demand for energy; teams of scientists, engineers, exploration companies and equipment manufacturers strive to develop new technology to retrieve these natural resources while also minimizing the environmental effects from these advancements. With over 27 years of experience, Tesmec USA, Inc. takes this task of minimizing environmental impacts to heart. Tesmec designs and manufacturers trenching equipment aimed at reducing the level of environmental impact from these exploration and reclamation efforts from Shale plays across the world.

The “Three Ditch System” Throughout the last decade, new advancements in exploration techniques, such as horizontal drilling and Hydraulic Fracturing (“Fracking”), have proven to be a fundamental process in the capturing of these natural resource reserves from Shale plays around the world. The development and implementation of these new methods has generated ongoing efforts to reduce the environmental impact associated with horizontal drilling and Hydraulic Fracturing (“Fracking”). One such method aimed at reducing the environmental impact has been the development of a “Three Ditch System.” This “Three Ditch System” entails the practice of placing numerous natural resource distribution lines into large trenches within the ground. The purpose of this effort is to reduce the previous transportation costs associated with the natural resource exclamation processes of the past, while also reducing the environmental impact on the surrounding communities. Prior to the development of the “Three Ditch System”, trucks were the primary vehicle for bringing fluids to and from the natural resource well sites. The associated costs required to operate the large volume of vehicles was very high, not only in the area of operation costs, but also Tesmec M3 operating in Shale Play in the area of associated environmental impact costs placed on the surrounding communities. Communities where this “Three Ditch System” is used are enjoying reductions in traffic, reductions in infrastructure repairs, as well as an overall improvement in the quality of life. At the same time, exploration and reclamation companies are benefiting from the savings in associated operation costs as well as environmental costs. The development of the “Three Ditch System” has allowed for other advantages such as exploration companies minimizing the footprint left behind by reusing the material used in the “Fracking” process and minimizing the effects in the transport of the “Fracking” material between well sites. Through the use of a “Three Ditch System”, exploration companies are creating a complex system of interconnecting

pipelines between a cluster of wells. The utilization of these three individual ditches provides the necessary infrastructure to significantly reduce the amount of impact on the local community, their roads and their way of life. The exploration company places the dry gas (process gas) line in one ditch, the wet gas (gas and particulates) in the second ditch and in the third ditch is for the “Fracking” solution. Two methods are commonly accepted with the use of the third ditch: (1) One supply line if water source is unavailable at well site and one return line or (2) no supply line if water source is readily available and one return line. With advances in engineering and the design of Tesmec trenchers leading to lowered cost of operations, using the “Three Ditch System” ultimately leads to a significant reduction in the associated production costs and environmental impact placed on these Shale play regions.

Tesmec Trenchers Tesmec USA, Inc. understands the requirements of our customers, the “Three Ditch System” and the time limitations of some methods used in today’s trenching construction process, such as the utilization of non-trenching machines. Through the use of high performance Tesmec machines our clients are able to complete the task of the “Three Ditch System” development faster and with fewer machines, providing significant savings to our clients. Savings are realized by an overall reduction in cost-per-foot for pipeline construction. Tesmec has proven time and time again the ability to replace 4 to 6 excavators on a pipeline project with the use of a single Tesmec trencher. From a customer’s perspective, the use of a single Tesmec trencher will not only minimize the amount of resources, both financial and environmental, to complete the job-at-hand, but the customer will also enjoy an increase in average daily production rates in using a single Tesmec trencher. Through the use of Tesmec trenchers, our clients are able to reduce the cost associated with the trenching process with increased productivity and reduction in machine, fuel and human resources needed to produce the “Three Ditch System”. This allows reallocation of human resources to complete the subsequent process associated with pipeline construction. Tesmec USA, Inc. continues to work closely with our customers to better understand their needs as it relates to the environmental impact of today’s construction processes. Through better engineering with an eye on the overall environmental impact, we will remain atop the trenching industry.
